Hi, I am a fourth year from a non-NLU with a decent CV. I have heard from a few seniors that certain firms have a 'hiring freeze,' and some firms accept assessment interns but, after a tenure of 4-6 months, state that they do not have any vacancies. I am quite anxious for the future. Please suggest some tips as to how I can stay mentally positive. With the upcoming placement cycle, my batchmates are also facing similar anxieties.
Well for non-NLUs (who don't have college placement), hiring freeze seems to be the reason why they don't get placed as per a few seniors.
Firms like LKS say that there is no vacancy.
More than half of my senior batch is unemployed/pursuing masters or other careers. I am not even sure if opting for law (knowing full well that I am from a low-income background with no lawyers willing to help) was a good option.
Please suggest a way out of this victim mentality. I am wasting a lot of time pointing fingers, rather than interning and honing my skills.
You have the answer to your question. Stop wasting time and focus on honing your skills. How about you intern long term somewhere and then try getting a job at 2-3 places using that? Or you can go to some Independent practice and learn. This would help you be independent and well versed with procedural aspects even if you had to go to a firm later on. I am not saying this gives you a sure shot placement but this will at least not leave you without any skills or experience.
We would love to have some insights from seniors.
