Unprecedented and heartening that a HC actually praises students of an NLU for protesting. Contrast with NLSIU, where the then CJI (Bobde) had told Gopal Shanks that he disapproved of such protests (when he came to push for Sudhir's nomination and NLSIU students were protesting at efforts by the TLC lobby to reject Sudhir)
I imagine that Chandrachud is not like Bobde and will support a protest for a just cause. But the question is whether the present generation of NUJS students can protest like early generations? Whether the Gen Z SJA is as active as the Gen Y SJA? Is Gen Z a generation of tweeters rather than doers? Are their protests restricted to social media rants?
The NUJS VCship nomination is coming up and will heat up after the 4 June election results. Will students do anything then?
Chill. NKC will be loyal to whichever party is in power in Bengal. If the BJP wins the state election in 2026, you'll see Baba Ramdev being appointed as a Chair Professor, if the TMC wins in 2026 you'll see Sheikh Shahjahan being awarded an honorary PhD. You kids are idealistic and don't understand that grown-ups don't care about ideology. Self interest is all that matters. You'll understand this better once you grow older.
Won’t happen. Gen Z and Gen Y are two totally different generations the world over. Gen Z is active when it comes to protests on political issues like CAA and Gaza, but not when it comes to internal university issues. For Gen Y it was the reverse. Gen Y was more self interested in issues affecting only them, whereas Gen Z is passionate about issues accepting the wider world, especially oppressed ethnic, religious and sexual minorities. That’s just the way it is.
