I teach at a good NLU I feel. I applied 5 times here for the post of Assistant Professor and got it 5th time. I have worked as a Research Fellow at a different NLU gor 3 years, joined PhD and then worked at this NLU for about 1.5 years at a different role. While I was in that role, I failed twice to land the role of AP. Went to a different uni for an year and then got the role. Honestly don't know what changed except a little more publications.

I like my job. I get to teach one batch only, which helps me focus on teaching. You get ample time to research and publish. The pay is as per UGC standards, so it will never be equal to even a Senior Associate at a law firm.

How to land this role- keep publishing while you're doing a PhD. If you're doing Masters or Bachelors, keep publishing. Try to make connections as well. Apart from all this, I don't really know what to say.

Really depends on what you're looking for and what your financial conditions are like. An LLM makes your case stronger for being hired by foreign law firms rather than if you did not do one at all. But bear in mind you'll still be facing a massive uphill battle in breaking in to a top US or other international firm, you'll just be slightly better placed. On the positive side, just the fact that you interact with people from all over the world on a day-day basis and get to learn from faculty who are miles ahead of their Indian counterparts does upskill you massively. We're in a profession where being able to interact with and hold a genuine conversation with people from around the world is a key differentiating factor as you go up the ladder (in terms of BD). An LLM from a top university helps massively. I'm not saying you can't develop those skills or similar contacts otherwise, just that an LLM makes it much easier. With that being said, there is a huge cost associated with the LLM - both financially and in terms of opportunity cost (though the opportunity cost pales in comparison to the benefits discussed). The financial component is however very significant and I'd say by and large dispositive.

I got an internship experience where one of the associate was really sweet, genuine and looked out for me in a big team. and stepped in for me without being asked. very professional behavior nothing romantic or weird but im so attached to this experience im very sad the internship has to end how do I get over it. doesn't help that hes good looking and probably gets along with everyone. hes a senior associate and had no business being this nice

### You are a student of the very first batch of the five year integrated law course, introduced for the very first time in India. We would love to know about your college. Was there any confusion/mismanagement, considering it was a new concept?

Yes, I belong to the very first batch (1983-88) of the 5-Year integrated law course after higher secondary, introduced for the very first time in India in the year 1983. Our college those days (Coimbatore Law College, Bharatiar University, Tamil Nadu) was run in a rented premises. There were very few classrooms during the first year since we were the only batch and the rest of them were three year law students. We had a small library and a very small room for sports activities.

Our syllabus was structured similar to the present syllabus, but it was not very detailed. We also studied subjects like Sociology, Economics, Legal History, History and Legal Language & Legal Writing etc. during the first two years. The rest of the three years we had subjects like Family Law, Transfer of Property, Constitutional Law, Income Tax, Insolvency, IPC, Evidence Act, CPC and Cr.PC along with Drafting, Pleading and Conveyancing.

There was no confusion or mismanagement and, of course, the infrastructure was limited. There were few teachers and we had hardly two to three classes a day and only one session either morning or afternoon. There was no hostel for girls and there were very few girls in the class.

There are many small firms that offer remote IP internships, for example, Satyaki Legal. Find out the mail, apply, wait, and follow up. If the desired month is not available, follow up for another month that works for you. For big firms like Anand & Anand, try looking for connections (college/school alumni) or cold-mailing or texting on LinkedIn. Be specific and intentional (team, month, mode). The key is to keep following up with them, given that they show interest in you. Don't be afraid to reach out to senior associates you don't know; there are many people out there who are helpful and willing to guide you if you show genuine interest. But of course, if someone doesn't show interest, leave them alone. Another thing is to publish articles and commentaries, and to participate in IP-related competitions/quizzes. As someone in this field, I would suggest you study tech law alongside IPR. Don't be discouraged if you don't get replies at first, and don't give up. Best of luck!!

Recently, MNLU Mumbai released a guide on procuring sponsorships and encourages students to do so for participating in international competitions. However, with this measure, the university has washed its hands of any obligation to provide funding for students, as if any student procures sponsorship, everything from the registration fee to travel costs are deducted from it first with the university only contributing to costs exceeding the sponsorship. Additionally, the university requires receipts for all sponsorship spending and reserves the right to reject claims. The issue is, the university has done absolutely nothing to help students achieve these sponsorships- it’s 100% the student’s efforts from contacting advocates to law firms. Despite it all, the university can now unilaterally claim the efforts of students under this policy, claiming it’ll save the sponsorship money for future editions of the same moot (which itself is contingent on something participating in the same moot and reaching the international stage once more). This is blatant abuse of power and just another evidence of the university’s corrupt practices (like 10 years and no campus?) If anyone has experienced this at their university, how did you handle it? Is there any legal ground under which student efforts for procuring sponsorships can be preserved and not given to this ▮▮▮ institution?

interned there in my final year for 2 months [feb '23-mar'23]. Was lucky to get back to back slots as the intern who was supposed to join in march backed out and due to my good rapport with the associates I got called back. got paid 15k p/m. Was exposed to deals within my first week and the associates were really sweet and helped me with a plethora of things even going as far as including and crediting me in front of partners. The partner was also super chill yet firm when it came to deliverables, also gave constructive feedback. But as they say, all good things must come to an end. Inevitably, in spite of great reviews, wasn't considered for a full time offer (owing to the fact that i was from a no-name private law school) but had a great internship experience there. Would recommend to get hands on experience but not for long term).

P.s. this is just my personal experience for a short 2 month stint and considering that a lot of people have negative opinions about the firm, i would suggest that you apply and find out for yourself. also the entire cohort of associates that was there when i was interning was relatively younger (max pqe was 4) and have all left and moved on to amazing T1 corp/m&a/pe/vc teams and in-house roles. Hi there. I was in this position a few years ago. The firm I used to work with desperately wanted me out since they did not like me, and I was thrown under the bus for the gross negligence of a senior. I was unemployed for 9 months. At least 10 to 12 interview rejections. I never gave up. Thereafter, I finally got into a tier 3 and worked my way up, today I am an SA in another tier 3. Took a lot to wipe off the black mark from that disgusting firm. But here I am today. Still surviving. Do not give up OP. Keep up the sincerity and hardwork. Good things will come your way.

PS: One of the firms which rejected me during my struggling days, despite my almost pleading for a chance, interviewed me once my career was back on track. This time, I rejected them, and they pleaded me, but I refused them. Things will turn around for you too as long as you are sincere. Look for good people to work with.

I have around 6 months of experience in a law firm, primarily working on transactions and general corporate matters. Unfortunately, my previous firm could not retain me due to commercial reasons, and I have been actively looking for opportunities for the past 2 months since leaving. Although my experience was short, I genuinely tried to make the most of it and got hands-on exposure to whatever work came my way. I’m confident in my ability to learn quickly and contribute meaningfully if given the opportunity.

There are only 6 T1 Law colleges properly in India, NLS, NALSAR, NUJS, NLUJ, GNLU and NLUD.

How are they ranked in 2026 ?
There used to be a time NLIU used to above GNLU and NLUJ but that has since fallen and NLIU would be somewhere in T1.5. While NUJS and NALSAR used to be top 3 above NLUD, now NLUD has claimed to be #2 although placements may not be as strong as other T1(s).

As far as I know NUJS, NLS and NALSAR hold the best placements record with GNLU trying to enter that league with over 40 + PPO(s) and over 70 placements by Day Z, which will probably and sadly make it another Corporate factory despite GLASS. NLUJ has always been decent although people have started keeping GNLU over it.

My rankings would be -
NLS
NALSAR/NLUD
NUJS
GNLU/NLUJ (although one can keep them above NUJS if they are willing to sacrifice alumni base and a better peer group for other facilities)

How would you rank them honestly ? And your 2 cents on how much difference does it make being in any of them ?

My team takes care of the IP due diligence aspect for any acquisitions, merger, investments etc. we also look into specific IP related contracts like technology transfer, specific IP transfer agreements. (that depends on deal to deal). Prosecution work is also there but we receive a lot of advisory mandates as well.

Hi, OP here.

In part it is from ease of common law jurisdiction that I would enjoy having done my undergrad in India. Alternatives like the USA are so actively hostile right now that I'm at odds with considering (I acknowledge that the UK is no snowflake either, it however a matter of relative comparison). I would want to consider the EU but I know that short of say C1 levels of native language fluency I will achieve nothing, so overall I'm inclined for the UK, notwithstanding the challenges I'd face there (which is part and parcel for anybody wanting to go abroad in this climate).

If you are asking why abroad ?, that should be self explanatory. I was born lucky to afford such affluence and I desire to not rot my life away in whatever this country is.

It is easy to say things like this when you have no context. Let me give you some context.

I have been friends with this ▮▮▮A" since before campus opened physically. I have seen him face the highest of ups and the lowest of downs in all these years. He never liked NUJS and I always fought with him about it, now I clearly see why.

He makes friends everywhere he goes. The same friend group which is intent on ruining his name used to call him a member of their "girl gang". One of them had named him punching bag and they used to properly hit him everyday and he never minded. All of them knew he was safe and he never retaliated. I used to ask him why he let them and he said he enjoyed the fun and games and they were his friends. Once I also remember members of the same girl gang putting a passed out junior girl to carry in the arms of this same guy they are calling unsafe now. He ensured she reached her hostel safely while they partied.

Now tell me, why did this guy slap the girl? This guy who was so safe girls felt they could absolutely smack him and all they would get in return is a smile. This guy who never had one speck of violence towards any of his female friends. I specify female friends as I do not live in the BH and cannot say for what he did there. I can only tell about the times when my batchmates in GH called him whenever there was emergency in the middle of the night.

So yes, you are right when you say "usne bhi kuch kiya hoga". I refuse to believe that he slapped her without a genuine reason behind it and evidently I am not alone. You can call him a lot of things but you cannot call him an assaulter.

He refuses to tell me or anyone for that matter what triggered the slap. He just says he got angry and that "maarna nahi chahiye tha". He has gotten angry before, he has never raised hands. Kuch to jarur kiya hoga that he ended up slapping.

You need to understand that things are not always black and white. So many people in my batch have done more than slapping and no one said anything. Just because this is a guy and a girl, suddenly everyone is triggered. Exchange the genders and there have been multiple instances with no consequence. The girl gang and their boys have turned their backs on him but for me, I will still be his friend. And I will hit him sometimes and know that he will return a smile. I have had my fair share of experiences in 5 years and I know how to judge a person. He was there when people needed him and now the same people have ganged up against him. I will not. And I'm happy to see that I am not alone.

I understand everyone is angry and rightly so; a life has been lost. But are we really going to convict a person based on what we have seen in the media? Most of us are lawyers. Lets understand the process required to hold someone guilty. Note: I am not condoning any behaviour here. I'm just saying, follow the law, as we have learnt. I'd think at the very least BCI ought to have sent him a SCN.

I understand that, but cannot i resolve it at my end? The matter is currently at other defendant's evidence stage, plaintiff's cross examination is completed so at this stage cannot i file set aside order application to set aside the order where we have been proceeded ex parte?

Also our WS, Vakalatnama, Affidavit of submission/denial was on record in time, can court still proceed us exparte, instead of just closing our evidence right?

Thanks for the detailed answer, since i have my name on Vakalatanama is it possible to just file the application to set aside order with signatures at end Through counsel, or do these applications mandatorily require affidavit of client, main issue is that client and firm doesn't know yet and i want to resolve the issue at my end, even if cost is imposed like 2000, i can pay from my own pocket, but telling firm would lead to me getting fired as 4-5 appearances have been missed and due to financial crunch i cannot afford that right now.

Sounds like a hot episode of Maamla Legal Hai! Hahahah anyway... as far as I can tell, the matter is perhaps for the Commercial Court. File Order 9 Rule 13 (or Order 9 Rule 7, depending on the context) and state something along the lines of an e-courts glitch, etc., as it is down almost all the time. I have even seen applications being allowed on the pretext of "mera munshi diary maintain karna bhul gaya," so trust me, it's not going to be that bad.

Offer to compensate the defendant with costs (how much depends on a judge-to-judge basis—sneak into their previous cause lists and you will know how much this specific judge is imposing in other matters). You can also ask the Ahlmad, LC, or Reader of the court to find out how much cost this judge usually imposes. Whether the defendant's evidence is at the tendering stage or the cross-examination stage determines the cost that would most likely be imposed on you.

Other than this, there is a plethora of Delhi High Court (DHC) judgments that have allowed plaintiffs to participate even at a later stage. Look for the principle that 'procedural defects shall not cease a litigant's statutory rights.'

So you can’t really hide it from your partner or firm long term, since the client will surely enquire about it someday (especially if 3-4 hearings have already happened). I’d say the best thing for you would be to come clean to your partner before he finds out from some other source and hope for the best.

I’m a Batch of 2027 student from a Tier-3 NLU and will be graduating next year. I have primarily built my CV around dispute resolution and have interned with Tier-1 and some of the best Tier-2 firms in the disputes space. My work exposure has largely been in commercial litigation, arbitration, IBC, electricity disputes, and related areas. I also have a few decent publications.

Academically, however, my CGPA is only slightly above average, which has been a major source of anxiety for me lately.

Currently, I have two internships lined up, both under commercial litigation chambers founded by former partners of reputed Tier-2 firms. While I’m grateful for these opportunities, I honestly don’t know whether they will eventually lead to assessments or job opportunities.

During my 4th year of law school, I have interned for approximately 5 months across different firms and chambers. I even received a callback from one place, but after asking about an assessment, I was eventually ghosted. At present, I do not have any assessment lined up, and I genuinely feel confused about how I am supposed to secure my first job.

I understand that most Tier-1 firms generally do not hire freshers directly for disputes, and realistically, considering my CGPA and college background, I know my chances there are limited. I’m not aiming for core corporate work either — disputes is where my interest genuinely lies.

At this point, I am completely open to starting with a chamber job as well, even in the ₹25–30k range initially. My primary concern is simply getting my foot in the door and building a stable career in commercial disputes.

Not the above commenter, but why will there be any jealousy over here? The person literally said, "these clubs are watering holes for those born with silver spoons." It ain't like any of them have achieved something to get in there right? And I don't think anyone shall be jealous of the lousy losers who do get the access and think that others are below them in any manner/ jealous of them. It's like network marketing people, all of them just extending recognition and respect within themselves on nothing but an iota of a person's sperm.

Hey, I had engaged with his service once. The experience was okay overall, but I did notice that some additions were made to the resume without much clarity or discussion. Also, mock interview prep was initially promised, but I didn’t really get much support. No, none of the resume he generated was submitted to any of the places I applied to; they seemed AI-generated. Just wanted to share my experience so you can evaluate accordingly.

My friend had a difficult experience interning with the Labour & Employment team in the Delhi office. The work culture appeared extremely demanding, with working hours often extending till midnight or even later.

What was more disappointing was the lack of consideration towards interns’ well being and work boundaries. The environment felt unnecessarily harsh and stressful, especially from certain associates in the team.

Of course, every person’s experience can differ, but based on what I observed and heard closely, it did not seem like a supportive team environment for interns.
