Rest are just the same unless the firm is boutique or specialised in a particular field. For instance, in LKS, most lucrative would be Taxation. Trilegal's competition practice is well-established so they make the same as GC individuals. For other T-1s, it's either GC and/or M&A. Unfortunately, IP individuals don't get paid the same as their peers in other fields.

In any case, it depends on the working hours you put in, your ability to get clients and your position in the firm (salaried/equity or managing partner).

Any idea who's gonna join NLU Assam. It had a lot of potential being the only NE NLU, but failed massively. They have reservations but only for Assam students. On the other hand they should have given reservation to NE students as a whole and made it NEs NLU. NLU North East would have been a better aim. Unfortunately, no visionary VC. Now Meghalaya, Tripura and Sikkim already have a new NLU. I hope the new VC realises the potential Assam still has.

It's okay. Like the other poster said, start being comfortable in your own company. I'm in law school and just like you I don't drink/smoke/go out on fancy dinners/trips. you get the drift right. Understand that such people don't want to be in your company because it makes them feel bad about their bad choices and the fact that you don't partake in their drama makes them mad because you are violating their sense of security by being confident in your own skin. Try to find a partner who can see right through the bullshit that goes around in such offices and try to solidify your relationship with them. That is how mentors are found.

Working at a T1 here with half a decade of experience . Even at level of partners and senior partners they insist on being addressed by their first name, and to not use sir. Respect comes from your work and how you treat someone, not by the use of sir. Such bullying is neither harmless nor useful for teaching any purported professionalism.

Ya’ll are too sensitive. It’s pretty harmless ragging. No one is physically or verbally insulting anyone. You just need to say Sir for the first 2 months, wear formal clothes, shave and comb your hair. What’s wrong with that? Just chill. Remember also that your seniors will be there to help you when you need them, such as sharing notes or giving internship advice.

How can saying 'sir' to your senior is an unjust system which allows cruelty and cause misery? Before you get absolute freedom of speech, learn how to efficiently use the reasonable freedom you already have.

And if you have so willing to call people on first name basis, start with your home first. Start calling your parents by their names. Charity should begin from home, shouldn't it?

A cultural honorific like 'bhaiya' should be the most a senior should expect. As a fifth-year guy, I will be embarrassed to be addressed as a sir by a fellow student. 'Sir/ma'am' culture should be left to places which require strict discipline, such as Sainik Schools and the Military Academies. Law schools are not the institutions that should be promoting hierarchy.

And you, old man, are a good-for-nothing loudmouth. It is people like you who prop up unjust systems, allow cruelty in the world to continue and cause misery to everyone but yourselves. If this platform were truely a haven of free speech (which it isn't), the so-called soft "snowflakes" would be able to tell (and show) you exactly where to shove your opinions and suggest, in graphic detail, exactly what treatment you need on a certain part of your body.

Within five years, they will top ₹1 crore for a five-year degree. But that can still be understood that these are private law schools. He mentions NLUs. The biggest culprits are the state NLUs. They have been raising their fees beyond affordability levels for most. Education loans make the problem worse. It is a case wherein the solution is worse than the problem, and coupling this with the ease with which aspirants are advised to take drop years we have a death spiral in hand.

Study the exam first, then make a call. Pretty much all the problems you face in a law firm, you will face while preparing for UPSC and much more. If you can't put in law firm like hours for preparation, forget clearing this exam. If you don't clear it in the first attempt (chances of which are extremely low statistically), most of your studies except CA will also become extremely mundane and taxing. While there is no workplace toxicity, trust me your brain itself can get really toxic for you, and you will have to learn to manage. It's a long journey with countless failures and one final victory. It's not ups and downs, it is a lot of downs with one big up. Lastly, while money is not a problem for OP, I see a lot of bumps so will mention this. Your financial cost of preparing this exam = Money lost due to not working (for OP, he should add A3 + SA1 salary if assuming you skip 2 years for prep) + Money spent in preparing/living for those 2 years.

Hi. Let me establish my credibility by saying that I'm a graduate from SLS NOIDA and work in a tier 1 law firm in Bombay. Both the colleges are decent, I would not say that in terms of education there is any difference, but the brand value of SLS Pune is miles ahead of SLS N, and be mindful brand does matter. Having said that, if you have financial constraints, don't worry about joining SLS N over SLS P. The curriculum of SLS N is designed in a way that you get to intern a lot during the 5 yrs. (it may be partly because the college doesn't have high hopes of placing students). Jokes apart, any given day SLS P is the better option. But you can work on other things to land yourself a half decent job, honestly, I can say at least for my batch, there is not a single person who wanted to get into a law firm and couldn't get in. Some of us may have started at smaller places but are all doing well now. Take your own decision, don't get influenced by this, nor am I trying to say that getting into a law firm means that you have arrived in life, the decision has to be YOURS, this is just to give you some perspective.

So what you said is that if people want to study judiciary or UPSC, people should get into DU for a fraction of the cost and avail everything that NLUD provides at a much higher cost. And as for the placement numbers, whatever spin you may give it, the scene is the same, NLUD is behind placements when compared to NLS, NALSAR, NUJS and these days, even NLUJ and GNLU.

Seriously we need to know about MKS performance in DNLU since ILI is a black hole. Apparently MKS was supposed to replace PIB/Lord Taluk. But there was a major pushback from powerful elements within the state govt and HC. All of that congealed into the "son of soil" argument and we got NKC.

But now there is a growing chatter that MKS may come in although the BJP performed poorly.

Just want to know from both BJP and TMC:

1. Why were utilization certificates not given? And how did funds continue for nearly a decade despite UCs not being sent?

2. Why doesn't CAG have access to a large swathe of dole schemes that were inspired directly by the CM? What was the Centre doing all these years? And what is it even doing now?

3. Why didn't Bengal govt go to the SC/HC for the allegedly illegal and unconstitutional stoppage of funds by Centre. Rajasthan did it. Kerala also got a degree of reprieve. The urgency and intensity with which Bengal fights for Nephew, Edu scam, Shk Shahjahan et al, why is that missing in this case? Why is the Centre tiptoeing around but not going for the kill?

One can go on. But no answers will come through. Because the "setting" has been on for a very long time. Right from the start. To TMC's credit, it has outclassed BJP everytime.

Find a good coach, someone who has qualified for international rounds or with a good record in international law. It’s better to have 4 speakers and decide the issues beforehand. Start with a zero memo. (basic issues) after two-three weeks research and improvise. Read through past year memorials and you’ll probably find a few arguments therein. Try to narrow down your research after a month when you’ve covered the basic arguments.

Get a head start on grades in your first year, it's really hard to catch up later. Birds with the same feather flock together, you will find your people sooner or later. And again keep in mind whatever the first comment says, be mindful of the intolerant and entitled wokes but don't lose yourself and your values just to mix in. Overall don't fret about college a lot, focus on your own life and give zero fs abt anything else.
