You can use a few years of experience in “business” of law (rather than law itself) and then go for MBA. You’ll get more value from MBA that ways.
Also if you stick you get decent WLB but less pay.

I do not wish to pursue a PhD or continue in academia, whether as a professor or in think tanks, as I find the field largely thankless, with limited engagement despite the institutional emphasis on publications.
Law has always been a subject of interest to me, and I had earlier considered pursuing it after entering the services, if at all. I have read a lot of threads on Legally India and understand the demands of the profession—the challenges of litigation, the long and demanding hours in law firms, as well as in-house roles. But, I still want to pursue it.
My current understanding of law is limited to constitutional law and the basics of certain statutes. However, I have developed a strong foundation in economics (both macro and micro), & general trade, through my UPSC preparation.
I believe I may have the opportunity to enroll in a 3-year LL.B. program in the upcoming session at a good college (possibly a Tier-2 NLU). I am aware that there may be age-related bias, as I will be around 34 upon completion.
My question is: will it exceptionally tough/remotely possible for me to enter corporate law—especially law firms/in-house—through the conventional route (internships, grades, publications, etc.) at this stage?
If, after three years, I am left with no option but to return to academia, pursuing law would be futile.
I would appreciate guidance and advice, especially from those already working in law firms, the industry, or HR.

Right now, the entire system is concentrated in the hands of one individual — the Convenor (2025–2026). More importantly, no other member of the committee has access to the official ICC email. This means that all communication with law firms, all internship opportunities received, and all decisions about which CVs are forwarded are controlled by a single person.
This setup leaves zero transparency. Students have no way of knowing:
- Which firms are reaching out to the university
- Which opportunities are actually being circulated
- On what basis CVs are being selected or rejected
Over the past few months, another worrying trend has become hard to ignore. Several students who would otherwise not realistically secure certain internships seem to be getting placed in positions that are only possible with ICC backing.
Students now have strong perception that the system is being used to favor a close-knit group. The reality, as many students see it, is that the ICC today benefits a small circle of sycophants, while the majority are left out without any clarity or justification.
To make things worse, there appears to be no active faculty oversight at this stage. With no checks in place, a system meant to help all students is being reduced to a tool of discretion.
The ICC is supposed to act as a bridge between students and opportunities. Right now, it feels more like a gatekeeping mechanism.
If this continues, it will seriously hurt the growth of NLUJAA as an institution. When internal politics starts deciding who gets opportunities, deserving students lose out.
However, Oracle’s India Legal team is one of the largest in the country—they handle a huge chunk of global contract management and compliance. Does anyone know if these "corporate" functions are being streamlined too, or are they safe for now?

I want to make a switch to employment team, can someone please provide some insights if anyone having experience in employment teams or someone who have been on the same page.

I’m a final-year law student from an NLU, about to graduate soon. Even with a decent rank, some publications, and a tier-1 internship under my belt, I haven’t been able to land a job yet. My family is dealing with a lot of debt right now, and I’ve also taken a student loan to finish my studies. A job at this point would really change things for me and help take some pressure off at home.
If any of you know of any openings in law firms, corporate teams, or even litigation chambers where someone like me could actually get a fair chance, I’d be really grateful if you could refer me or just point me in the right direction. I’m open to doing an assessment internship where I can be seriously considered for the job.
If nothing works out, I’ll probably have to shift fully towards preparing for government exams. Honestly, this feels like my last real shot at making things work.

I work at a tier 2 firm based out it Mumbai. I have a PQE of 2.5 years wherein I have worked with the M&A and PE team and did several high stake transactions. Additionally, from last 6 months I have been working constantly on advisory matters on employment laws, which I found very interesting.
However, now I am looking for a switch in the employment and benefits teams of a Tier 1 or Tier 2 firm. Is it possible with only 6 months of advisory experience in employment matters. I am also comfortable to discount my experience and start as an A0. Anyone from the employment teams here or someone who has been in a similar situation can you please share some insights, it would be really very helpful. Thanks.
