Clavicular is a looks ▮▮▮. Looks aren't everything. They are indeed something as everyone loves to look at a pleasant face but they aren't THE deciding factor. Those who build their career on looks will have a short span of satisfaction as everything will begin to cascade after late 40s. In contrast people who build their fame using money or actual skills will have a longer span of satisfaction (maybe even well until their death).

It has become far too common for individual Advocates, chambers and low-tier firms to embarass themselves and lose when a tier 1 firm is on the opposing side. These chambers and low-tier boutique firms don't pay their juniors well, have egos worse than SC judges, make silly arguments and embarass themselves publicly. Tier 1 firms, otoh, do their research, draft their pleadings well, pay their associates handsomely, engage good arguing counsel and win! What surprises me is how these chambers keep getting clients. They should be out of business by now. Or is it just that businesses still don't want to spend money on lawyers? If so, why don't they go for a mid-sized firm over a chamber?

Which firms amongst the Tier-1s are the most prominent in insurance law? I am aware that Tuli & Co (and Solaris to some extent) are specialist firms. However, their pay is sub-par. I would like to know how does an insurance team work within a full-service T1. Is it just as a part of transaction? If not, then which firms/teams are generating most work within insurance realm, independent of other teams? Any leads would be appreciated!

C&M is arguably the only firm in India that genuinely specialises in competition and company law disputes—disputes being the operative word. The only other firm that once fit this profile was Gaggar. However, the main man, Mr Gaggar, is now a designated Senior Advocate, and it’s unclear what remains of the firm as a disputes practice.

Specialist firms have existed in India far longer than we like to admit. Anand & Anand is a specialist Tier-1 firm in the IP space. Hon’ble Ms Justice Pratibha M. Singh ran a specialist IP practice prior to her elevation. Vinod Dhall ran a specialist practice in the competition law advisory space. Obhan pre-merger was a Patients first firm.

On salaries: as a disputes-first firm, C&M’s junior-level compensation will never compete with Trilegal, SAM, CAM, or Khaitan at the A0/A1 level. That said, there is significantly greater scope to negotiate a larger share of the spoils for “business you originate as an equity partner”, compared to a large, full-service Tier-1 firm. The reason is simple. This is a semi-family-n-feins -run firm—lean, tightly structured, and without the insane operational overheads of firms like the aforementioned T1’s. Which, quite plainly, leaves more to go around…

Absolutely correct decision. If we want to bring equality we have to stop dividing society based on caste benefits. Only way forward is to start shift in to economy based reservations for everyone. Poor upper castes and rich lower castes still exist. If this rule came into effect major of false cases would increase not just against students but also teachers. Imagine a professor not giving free marks gets fired because he's a UC, and not because he's setting a standard of excellence. Major brain drain happening.

The legal issue is simple:

1. Whether natural justice is being followed

2. Whether natural justice can be waived in some cases

3. Whether GCs, being a numerical minority in colleges post 50% reservation, can face discrimination also.

But the complex question is the electoral politics. In India, 30% UCs vote for BJP and 18% Muslims vote for Congress/opposition. This makes the 50% SC/ST/OBC vote a swing vote. The BJP has swayed enough of them to win (especially non-Yadav OBCs and EBC/Mahadalits). To secure this vote further it enacted these rules. But the GCs felt it was a witch-hunt against them. So a battle between two competing voting blocs.

The big winner could be Rahul Gandhi and the Congress. I firmly believe that Rahul will be the next PM. Modi is finished.

NUJS' placement records have always been better than any other NLU in the last decade. That's not because of smaller batch size but because of their alumni connect and greater focus on corp-specific law firm life. Those remain unchanged, at least for the BA Batch. BSc people aren't meant for those placements either, so the extra batch size doesn't mean much from a placement perspective. It also offers a student greater autonomy and flexibility compared with join NLUJ or GNLU, as well as exposure to greater range of careers including academia, policy work and entrepreneurship. The max number of NLU alum teaching in India come from NUJS at present.

Got a rank of 180ish and decided to choose GNLU. Seeing the protests in NUJS and the living conditions there, people recommended me not go there. NLUJ and GNLU were pretty much the same but GNLU offered more breathing space.

Last year placement wise as well, GNLU performed really good but others did the same as well. NUJS and NLUJ claimed a 90-100% placement record up until now because of a smaller batch size but atleast from this academic year NLUJ NUJS and GNLU have a similar batch size.

Also how much is a different in students who maintain a batch rank of top 20 across these 3 colleges ?

If this were a case of one or two associates being let go, that would be understandable. But this firm fires dozens of associates en masse every year—effectively meaning all of its former associates have been pushed out at some point. That pattern says a lot about its culture: a pressure-heavy environment paired with unethical hire-and-fire cost cutting. On top of that, the firm has repeatedly misrepresented pay and bonuses. I would strongly advise avoiding it. I haven’t heard a single positive review from anyone in the industry.

worked as an associate there for 2.5 years (changed now), their pay scale is below average and even paralegal are paid and respected more than the associates, firm is kind of chill and not like a typical law firm, timings are good but trust me you would not learn anything over here- even someone from non law background would also become an associate in such a firm. Hiring actually depends on mood of the founder rather than ur actual skills. I can say that even interns at IPR law firms would know better than many associates there. My personal opinion based on 2.5 years of experience there would be that if u need a chill environment with no good pay, growth- join them, but if u want to build something in this field go for other law firms

Hi, I’m looking to switch to a chamber whose primary practice is in civil or criminal law, with strong exposure at the Delhi High Court and the District Courts in Delhi. Could you please suggest some names of chambers or advocates who have a decent practice and offer fair remuneration?

They have supposed to have taken a lease of an office in the same building as KCO. I also heard that some litigation office from Chennai will merge into trilegal like assentio with Khaithan. Their pay will be more than Khaithan I would guess because of the general reputation of trilegal. Will be exciting to see how trilegal v khaitan will play out and adjust to the chennai market.

Has anyone here served as a tribunal secretary for ad-hoc/institutional arbitrations? What is the general screening process? How did the opportunity come about? Is it possible without having to shell out 20k+ for those Tribunal Secretary training programmes? Please do share your experience, thanks!

But then again I think it would be difficult for me to get a job in T1 firms right now as I am from a no-name boutique firm. A lot of people have told me that my best shot is T2 or T3 firms. Is that true? My current salary is 50k/month which is too low for Mumbai. I am not able to manage my expenses with my current salary. So that is one of the main reasons why I want to shift to a better firm with better work and salary.

I’m a 2025 law graduate from Tamil Nadu. Right after college, I joined a US immigration law firm, where I currently work. While the exposure has been good, I’m planning to transition back to Indian law within the next year, since I don’t want to stay too long in a niche that may become irrelevant for Indian practice.

During law school, I did multiple internships in IP/media law (both advisory and litigation side), and I’m now seriously considering Technology, Media & Telecom (TMT) as my long-term practice area in India.

Before making the switch, I want to prepare myself better by doing TMT-focused internships, preferably remote/virtual, alongside my current role.

I had a few questions and would really appreciate guidance from seniors and practitioners here:

1. 1. Do Indian firms (especially TMT/media teams) take remote interns, particularly graduates or recent graduates?
2. 2. Are there any specific firms / boutiques / teams I should be targeting for TMT internships?
3. 3. Is transitioning into TMT at this stage a sound career decision given my background (US immigration + IP/media internships)?
4. 4. Realistically speaking, if I build strong TMT-specific skills, are firms actually hiring lateral juniors in this space?

Any insight on how to position myself better, what skills to focus on, or mistakes to avoid would be extremely helpful.
