Hey, I am also a final year law student from T1 NLU graduating in 2026, I was also thinking of starting my litigation journey in Lucknow (as it is also my hometown), the problem is that i have only interned in Delhi NCR throughout my lawschool (both corp and disputes) and only did one internship in Lucknow, now majority of my connections are in Delhi NCR, even a standing offer from a AOR, but i don't want to shift to Delhi.

How do i go about building connections here with only 6 months to my graduation, please recommend some good advocates (non-senior) who run a good and professional practice in Lucknow.

Also, anything particular i need to keep in mind (apart from the usual discrimination/prejudice/nepotism (caste/gender/religion) which is a norm in most T2 cities).

True. And I really don't understand PC. Money has no colour. Ofc business, arts etc have always flourished when it is patronised or is in alignment with powerful or dominant interests. Please don’t equate the Jindals with the shady businessmen who have risen under the TMC. The Jindals always had a solid, large business. Joining a political party helps them expand in scale and ward off harassment from authorities.

This very feeling is when you should know it's time to quit - " I’m burning out, don’t see the point. My health is suffering and I’m so anxious all the time. Every outlook mail fucks with me, every teams notif makes me want to run." Try to find other firms with better seniors who won't make you feel this way. I've been in both situation, it's not the work but it's surely the people you work with. And if not firms, then definitely in-house but run asap. You will feel a lot better mentally and physically, trust me.

I was in the same boat. Don't quit right away...suck it up for a couple of years.....switch firms/ practice area if you have to so that it gets a bit more bearable. If you find T1 too toxic, get into a good T2 after 1-2 years in T1 and getting good in your practice area. During 0-3 years keep aggressively thinking of an exit strategy from law firms....anything that appeals to you and makes sense in the long term. Not necessarily in-house...not necessarily even law...can be anything where you make enough money to suit your lifestyle and circumstances and can be at peace with yourself and do something you enjoy long term. Think hard about what you really want to do and how it can be feasible. Think in terms of overall sustainability....not just immediate/ short term relief from your current job. Once you've really sorted out your exit plans, quit the law firm industry. Spending a couple of years as an associate at a tough law firm builds some transferable skills which can be applied in other jobs and industries where most people really lack these skills. So, learn what you can while you are in a toxic law firm job, because even lessons learnt from such places can prove to be very useful in life later on.

Ha, ha............even JGLS, SLS, BITSLaw and IIULER (and the likes) are in the ambit of this audit (yes, Ashoka as well). Off late, NLUJ has been so absurd and non-transparent about its essay competitions. They make big announcements with flashy collaborations, take in all the registration fees, and just disappear.

The IDIA ICUL NLUJ competition earlier this year had its result announced multiple weeks later. What is even more insane were the results, which NEVER CAME OUT. Multiple concerns were raised, but the OC simply refused from offering any justification and disappeared with the money.

Then came the Pranita Mehta Essay Comp. The results were supposed to be announced in July, more than 4 months ago. Again, there has been no update on it whatsover. Complete silence.

They should definitely come out with a justification for all this, especially when they have been charging money for registrations. Paying 500 bucks and working on a 3000 word well-researched essay only for the OC to disappear is so wrong to all the participants. Or maybe just stop with all the competitions altogether and refund everyone's money.

Sometimes there's no water in the well to irrigate and fertilise the adjacent land, which the well did for long. Sometimes the adjacent land would need to store the water for their own use and also, to recharge the well. Don't know who is being talked about but this is also a truth of life.

But empathy works both ways right. What about the mental health of the people who work under you. It’s one thing to say someone may be struggling, but that can’t become a blanket excuse for inefficiency or behaviour that affects everyone around them. The support staff, juniors, colleagues, and teams who have to constantly cover for mistakes, handle last-minute chaos or deal with unpredictable conduct also take a huge mental toll. I rest my case. I will not reply further.

Maybe he is going through something deeper on the mental health side. The profession can be brutal, isolating and ego-draining, and not everyone has the support system to handle that pressure at all times. We have seen phases where even competent people start slipping, not because they don’t know the law, but because they’re exhausted, overwhelmed, or dealing with personal issues that nobody else can see. I am sure he would have done good work to reach where he has.

Before we rush to judge, mock, or label someone as incompetent or difficult, it’s worth remembering that lawyers are human too.

You may use AI to fix typos and help you structure at times, but don't make it write the entire thing and submit it- it becomes apparent.

not op but this is some great advice! To op - Even if u do all this, and even the team like ur work - keep ur balls low. It's completely random at times. So dont stress if u dont get it this time. U will eventually get something. Nothing to worry about. everyone gets something eventually. It's not the end of world. You will achieve something one day or the other.

I am currently doing a PhD in FoL, DU. It's only been 6 months and no work progress. The people are saying it may take 6-7 years at DU. It absolutely suks. I was considering changing the institute. The only application open right now is for HNLU. I wanted a genuine review whether it's good for a PhD ? My area is HR. Could anyone give a review please. The deadline is 30 November.
