Man. Idk what to say. I have been bashing law firms and now this. Well this is also one of the reasons i say that one does not have a future there. Its a pyramid like structure, onepartner, one or two counsels, then maybe a few Pa/Sas, then the Associates. Of the 170, how many will make partner? Even if they do become partner, most of them will face the same issue as the ones salaried partners face - no bringing in business.

Mods, please publish this comment. I genuinely want to know how someone who wants to work in a firm can even accept this. This is true for most of the big shot law firms.

It's been really long, I've also been applying to advocates, majorly AORs with good practice as I want to develop practical knowledge first, money was never a consideration I took among the facets of finding my job, although I did try looking for job at law firms (majorly T1); been long since I'm applying to AORs, with objective of getting good knowledge, yet no response. It's really depressing now, yesterday it was diwali and yet all I thought was about my prospect of starting my career.

Tbh, yes I'm very selective towards whom I'm applying to, as I don't wanna shift to Delhi just for the fact of appearing across fora there, but to actually learn.

Idk what I must do now. Need guidance, I want to start my learning, the other option for me is to start it at district court at my home town, but the only problem is that we don't have that many good lawyers across, and honestly the vibe of DC is too insincere. I want to develop the Good ethos of legal practice along with knowledge. I'm ready to work without any remuneration, only consideration is someone who's work profile is considered good amongst the fraternity so that my profile get an anchor for having been trained under the right person.

Please suggest some names and also practitioner who may be considering taking freshers at this point.

P.s: yes there was some personal reason due to which I wasn't able to secure job earlier and it has now costed me a long gap.

SKC took the place of SB whose term had ended. SKB was brought in when SKG became Associate P. SKB time in the EC would have ended in March 2026. SKS got a full 5 yr run in the EC and was replaced by the Forensic guy. And AG was brought in by cutting short KS tenure because NKC suspected her to be VP mole.

KS complained to the EC that SKS was given a full 5 yr tenure in the EC because NKC was her doctoral supervisor. NKC responded that he merely followed the precedent set by Talukdar who had given AKP, LDG and AG limited tenures. Both LDG and AG lost their EC positions soon after NKC took over because they had become Associate Ps then. But the real reason was that the trio were considered inconvenient by NKC and he wanted to pack in his acolytes, which he eventually did till things soured up with VP.

The shortlist included Prof Rattan Singh, a former Prof of UILS, Punjab Univ and presently VC of the State Open Univ; and a PIB pal V Sudhish, a senior advocate and legal academic holding adjunct positions at various law colleges. PIB had appointment him a Chair Prof.

Are you sure the Four Horsemen of PIB will continue to thrive? Yes OVN is a VR loyalists and PIB was a senior in that campus. But I believe the clique may now also see TRC, LDG and most definitely SKB.

Btw, an old PIB proposal is getting revived in the name of transparency. Biometric attendance of faculty, staff and students. Expect a 6 cr contract to some sweethearts via WEBEL.

What financial chicanery? Nobody could produce any evidence of anything. All the decisions had the stamp of approval from FC and EC. Students were being foolish and lazy when they thought that without doing any kind of diligence or investigation, they would be able to browbeat an old hand like NKC into resignation. They relied upon hearsay from faculty who had their own agenda and ego battles against the VC. They paid the price too.

If you had really been a candidate for the position of an Assistant Professor of law at a national law university, then you should know better. Even if a person resigns from a post at a public university after having joined it, then the authorities cannot simply consider another candidate like this. They would have to re-advertise for the post and hold the interview once again. As for the rumours, nobody has resigned from their job yet.

This guy literally created a separate course/dept to accomodate Apa and acolytes. He had a dodgy admin audit done so that he trade in admin recruitment and promotions. Started courses without transparent analyses of costs and future prospects of the students currently in MSc Forensics, the new LLB etc.

Basically extended the degree mill lineage that started with PIB. No surprise NKC went easy on PIB for showing the way.

The 4 resigned from the EC, not from their jobs. And yes every recruitment at least since the days of PIB have had such deals. The 2017 recruitment was a scam but NKC killed the inquiry. One of the complainants passed away another got recruited elsewhere. So the matter got abandoned.

Your best chance is to first acquire the requisite paperwork which shows the wrongdoing, if any. NKC is good with paperwork and likely that he scored his candidate better on subjective side.

If you do get the paperwork (because NUJS often misplaces inconvenient stuff) then lodge a formal complaints separately with the UGC; the Chancellor (CJI), the Law Dept of WB and its Minister. Send copies to VC and Registrar of NUJS. Use a proper courier so that you get the tracking evidence rt. Also email.

At NUJS, inconvenient things are often not brought before the EC and the EC also tacitly allows the VC to paper over such wrinkles.

Rt now and inquiry has been directed concerning the recruitment of a forensic science faculty member. Papers are being actively removed and shredded.

Keep hearing whispers about VK. But no one from NLU Assam or MNLU-N are willing to share actual evidence of wrongdoing. He was quite a character at NALSAR and his name did come up in an inquiry report (Kian had reported on it). But Tau took care of it and VK never went back to NALSAR. Goodness knows which NLU will get him this time.

NLS not only developed the bench strength to pick VCs from its faculty and alumni pools but also fill up VC positions elsewhere too. NLU Ranchi, NLU Trichy etc. Ofc the recent ones are looking to get a reprieve from SKY.

Interesting that Sarasu who had replaced OVN went to Manipal but did not even apply for NUJS or other NLUs.

SKC, SKB, AG and someone from Forensic Sc resigned from EC following a complaint by KS that NKC had been capricious in making these appointments. But SKB had been appointed earlier. Why complain only now? SKB consistently batted for NKC and that too when KS was in the EC along with SB.

By the time AG, SKC and Forensic fellow were brought into the EC, NKC was already on his way out, technically. Don't understand what happened.

This is all bullshit. More than 50% of hires in Noida office are from non-NLUs across teams (except VK's and B&F). Non-NLUs are hired mostly so that they can be underpaid and exploited later in the name of their college. This is n/w standing the fact that MP and majority of senior partners are not from NLUs.

Please prove you were born by producing your birth certificate! I'm not sure what you are trying to establish here. If it is that LSAT produces rank lists like CLAT and people go to Yale or Harvard based on their rank, I am sure you can produce proof for that. An "entrance exam" is exactly that. It determines whether you get in. LSAT is a test which carries weight not an entrance exam.

Hi all,
I am from the batch of 2026 coming from a tier 3 private law school. I have previously interned with two tier 1 law firms within the corporate-commercial Departments ranging from typical GC to employment to BnF and TMT.

I got these two internships without any reference after cold mailing a partner who put it through the HR after which i had a grilling interview for internship.

I did very well in my internship with this one tier 1 law firm and even secured a PPO interview and i thought my life was set but unfortunately, i did not clear the interview which surprised the team i worked with too.

After that I have been feeling low but i did not lose faith and applied to pretty much every single tier 1, tier 2 and tier 3 law firms but I have got ghosted or an automated rejection mail.

How do I go ahead? What do I do?

I also have a solid foundation with litigation, should i just go back to where it all started even with extremely poor pay?
It all looks so bleak at this point. Any advice would be helpful. Thanks.

I want to learn more about this space, and frankly would love to engage with as many associates as possible. As an engineer who’s recently had a peek at this space, this is my super biased set of observations:

- Ill informed but deep pocketed corporate law firms are shelling out insane amounts for the most basic (and frankly disappointing) RAG implementations. From a technical standpoint at-least, this stuff is youtube tutorial material.

- Being best friends with a random partner at a tier 1 firm >>> good product? Crap products are being used by incredibly talented lawyers, because their partners said so. Is that something to do w the org and incentive structure being different from “traditional” business?

- Actual users don’t seem as happy when you talk to them (the associates/ SAs), but there are some (occasionally over the top) super laudatory testimonials from partners for the very same products. Whats the consensus from y’all as users?

- Why has no Indian Legal AI gone to YC? Or have I missed something here? Is the larger bet in this space on American firms capturing the entire market?

- Big t1 firms have big IT teams, yet whats the output? Have these teams not realised how simple it is to replicate the “models” (there are no bespoke models hence the quotes) they pay AI companies for? What happened to K-AI?

- How do you guys compare a Lucio to a Jurisphere to a Harvey? Do they give you any validation metrics on the performance of their search/deep search stuff? Or is it all going off “it feels good”?

- All these security certifications used as selling points are bullshit, a quick google search will tell they can be and are bought for as little as Rs 399.

- What-sup with all the lawyer founders running AI companies? Like, would you not rather some cracked AI person spearheading the vision and trajectory of things? This certainly seems like a big red flag for prominent Indian deep tech investors who haven’t really approached the space.

hey guys, can someone help me understand how salary works in lateral shifts to tier 1 firms?

So say I join a boutique firm right after graduation for around ₹40k/month (mainly to learn and gain experience) but then later move to a tier 1 where the A0 salary is around 1.2L/month.

If I join as an A1 or move after around 6 months, will they pay me the standard 1.2 (as per the A0/A1 band) or offer a hike on my current ₹40k which would obviously be way lower in comparison?

I'll be starting my practice (not independent, but under someone) in a few months at a HC. Everyone in that HC uses an Ipad (for liquidtext ofc), and since they have an Ipad, they move to the apple ecosystem and go buy a macbook and an iphone.

Currently, I have on old ipad of a relative which I intend to use. My phone is an android one, which can go work for another 2 years. I am thinking of changing laptops (have a dell windows one currently) and am thinking, if i should change the laptop? If yes, should I go for macbook? Would it be compatible with my android phone? Or would a windows laptop be fine? I believe the most usage of my laptop will be for drafting on MS word and research on SCC OnLine.

My current laptop is giving me alot of headache. I really want to change it. But the entire ipad-macbook-iphone set would be expensive, and so i want to be sure if i should take it or just go with windows one.

For context, almost in every chamber i see even the juniors have an iphone, macbook, and an ipad. Hardly does anyone have a windows laptop.
