I am very sorry for what you are going through. This excuse of "performance related issues" is more often than not bullshit, especially when it comes from these Tier 1's. Many actual "non-performers" are tolerated in Tier 1's merely becuase they suck up to the partner, tolerate being treated like a doormat, and some of them have compromising material / are aware of the dirty secrets of the higher-ups in the firm hierarchy. I know of someone who was similarly kind of let go - in their case, the firm made it clear that they did not want this person to continue for other reasons, and they cited performance as a reason to let them go. The person was rejected in several interviews and was jobless for a year, and they later got to know it is because of negative feedback that was given by the firm which let them go (during background verification). Then finally, they got into a Tier 3 and worked their way up, and now, they are a Senior Associate in a Tier 3.

All I can tell you is never give up. You may not get into a Tier 1 immediately, but you can definitely try Tier 2 and 3 firms, brush up on your knowledge thoroughly (not saying you have not done it yet), come across as confident (I know this is difficult, but can be done), and please do not give up hope.

Pull out all stops, including, but not limited to, reaching out to all possible contacts (anyone in the Tier 1 which let you go with whom you are on good terms / whom you can trust), legal recruiters, any big contacts you may have in the judiciary, try everything possible. There are many kind partners out there (at least in Tier 3 firms) who like to give people a second chance. Good things happen to those who do not give up.

i have a US passport and originally planned on going there and doing my undergrad and jd, but my plans were disrupted. now im in a 5 year undergrad at a t1 nlu, and i want to eventually move there. im on the corp track and building my cv akin to seniors who've gotten tier 1 placements in india. do i go to the US for higher education or can i directly pass the bar and try for a job? what situation is doable, realistic and won't cost too much?

hi, ik it feels like hell rn, and it's like looking at a mirror. i'm almost in the same situation as you with acads even worse (i failed one subject my first year and seems like second year is going worse). i tried to participate in comps - none worked out and costed me the few friendships i had. i still want to work hard and achieve the said dream and i still feel like it might happen. i hope you feel better, this is just the beginning (im assuming you're in the second year too). there are ways you could turn it around, at least academically. i'm fully convinced i'll not recover socially though. i hope it gets better man

Hey! You still seem to be in your first year (unless you forgot to include the mistakes of all the other years and randomly hit send!). Therefore:

1. There is a lot of time before you can make any conclusion about "death of a dream"!

2. This means you have plenty of time to remedy your mistakes.

3. Importantly, most people don't land up in a T1 firm in the first year - all that comes much later.

Promise to be neutral.

1. He is head of the team. Other partners fear him and no one questions him.

2. Other partners told me if he as much as catches a typo, he might fire you.

3. He impulsively decided to discontinue work from home for no clear reason.

4. He barely does anything in the team. Comes 3 times in a month (no kidding). Travels and eats rest of the time.

5. He has created an unnecessary position (no billable work) in the team for his distant relative. At the same pay, the relative leaves at 5-6 PM. Some of us work till 5-6 AM earn just as much if not less.

6. He treats people like puppets - even the ones who joined with him. Tell them what he wants to be done.

7. The only good thing about him is he’s not around as much.

What's not to like?

IIULER Goa is not an NLU. It is not owned or funded by Central/State Government. It is a Private University under Section 2(f) of UGC Act. Moreover, IIULER Goa illegally joins CLAT Consortium by violating the Bye-Laws of the Consortium itself (Full Bye-Laws is accessible in CLAT Website). Only "NLU" can join Consortium but IIULER Goa somehow illegally joins it. If we enquire about that to Consortium or even if we file RTI Applications, no one is responding. They are just deceiving people and CLAT Aspirants by misbranding IIULER as an NLU!

NKC will definitely continue with EC support. Despite the South Kolkata Law College fiasco no meaningful action was initiated against the college Principal and the management committee members who bent rules to allow that monster and his gang to run amok for years. No action against police officers who did nothing about FIRs lodged earlier. Leave alone opposition, even the regime members were not spared. At least two honchos involved there are also present in our AC and GC.

There isn't much students can do with this divide and conquer thing. And why blame students only. Just look at how even the faculty treats BScLLB folks. Despite the politeness of the few, they all agree that BScLLB stock have lower CLAT scores etc. Many faculty members even question their access to campus recruitment since their focus should only be in Crime and Forensic tracks and not corporate jobs (going by the actual nomenclature of the BSc track)

Apart from BBA, another track on BA LLB with focus on use of AI for court management and litigation is also in the offing. This is likely the Adjudication track that some judges in the EC and elsewhere want.

He thinks firing people will solve the issues. The problem is with his perspective. Instead of acknowledging the genuine issues with this firm and taking steps to correct it, he tries to create fear.

It will sort itself out. If it gets to be too much - then take a break. BUT the work gets easier every time you do the same thing again. Your first SHA is the toughest - as is your first DD.

Just remember that all those who now seem confident also had to struggle with what you are struggling with before they got comfortable with the process.

If it gets to be too much, talk to your partner / SA. Everyone remembers their struggles and most will sympathise.

Mukesh is legit big shot. While haven't seen him much active (and that's why did not name them in firm list), there are some partners also, who are there. Please do your verification because there were some comments here on people who possibly interned or worked there that the work is lot of articles writing etc. But having said that, Mukesh is someone who is extremely respected in tax field, by clients, practioners, Government and internationally as well. So just need to do your verification.

Now in T1 law firm and still touch with both the firms. IdK if it changed but friends who is now on assessment keep telling me about the culture and how people keep cursing TL.

Mr. Pelash Toing from the litigation team is also fantastic!
