I’m from a very humble law college with no placement support, and I’ve been selected for the NISM LL.M. in Capital Markets & Securities Law (with MNLU Mumbai). The program claims 100% placement with offers from law firms, banks, NSE, BSE, investment firms with ₹6.33 LPA average and ₹11.59 LPA highest CTC.

Would be grateful for honest views from anyone knowledgeable about the ROI and career prospects of the program.

IC RegFin Legal is offering a package of 20.50 lakh in day0 of all top law schools for 2026 batch and has handed over several PPOs already. 1.40 lakh monthly fixed being offered plus annual bonus. Upped it from 20 lakh offered last year to the 2025 batch where also more than 15 hirings were done. Good practical conduct to showcase that one means serious business. this consistent year on year package is higher than most of the tier 1 firms so why to get into unnecessary debates. Let someone relatively new keep breaking the barriers, good for the growth of the overall market which can see more firms paying well.

The average T1 NLU grad (from the early 2000s) is nowhere near the high flying lives people vicariously live through. The capable professionals are living lives similar to corporate executives (just like the average Indian T1 MBA). Which is nothing to scoff at, in a country like India - they own a 3/4 BHK home in NCR/BLR/BOM, their kids go to a high achieving private school, they do a nice holiday every year, own 2 cars, have a cook/cleaning staff.

They DO NOT own Rolexes/APs/Pateks, do not fly first class, do not own a >50L car, and shop at (nice, but not the highest end) malls. Their kids aspire to an Ivy League undergrad, and settle for Ashoka if they can't hack that. Nothing wrong with this life, in fact, the proliferation of CLAT coaching in T3 towns in India is aspiring to this, since engineering and medicine do not offer such a direct pathway to this life anymore (for the average graduate, obviously the highly capable in any discipline have different aspirations).

The true 1% of the legal profession (1cr/day senior counsel, rainmaker equity partners at T1 firms) are in a league unto themselves. There are T1 NLU graduates in that scene, but they are there largely owing to their own hustle or nepo connections. The T1 NLU tag is just window dressing after a point. Much like the HWS MBA in American high society.

New generations of students joining NLS should be advised to moderate their aspirations and not be taken for a ride by FOMO and social media induced perception.

Hmmmmmm........if an alumnus of NLS uses such a flawed logic based on incomplete information to justify his argument in the Karnataka High Court, then it calls into question the quality of education he received while at NLS.

NLS rightfully deserves the tag of 'Hayward' of the East.

Now let’s talk about the foreign institutions you so confidently talked about, the T14s in the US, Oxbridge, top Canadian law schools. Their graduates do dominate global legal rankings and help shape international jurisprudence. The comparison is laughable because most NLU grads wouldn’t even make it past the personal statement stage at those institutions.

Here’s a reality check for you junior failing CLAT is not a moral failing, nor is it a career death sentence. It just means someone didn’t perform well on a deeply flawed test often while still a teenager. And yet, people recover. They go to lesser-known universities, work twice as hard, intern widely, outperform many NLU grads, and actually build meaningful legal careers. Not because someone handed them Oxford, but because they had resilience a quality glaringly absent from your post.

In short, if you genuinely think that one needs to pass the LSAT or go to Oxbridge to justify not cracking CLAT, then maybe it’s time to reflect on what exactly you’re defending, an entrance exam, or your own inflated ego.

Because aren’t Rajya Sabha seats (whether elected or nominated), usually given only to senior Supreme Court lawyers, like Singhvi, Jethmalani, Sibal, etc?

Incidentally, the BJP also gave an RS seat to Manan Mishra. So the trend under Modi seems to be to give it to non-elite lawyers, not the super-elite ones.

The world over, find me a good law school that is not part of a larger university ecosystem. It is only in India that we have stand-alone law universities (in the form of state NLUs). Forensic analysis was there even before NFSU, but this time it is the speed and scale (aided by technology) that is the difference made by NFSU. If a lawyer or a law student does not know the value of forensics in delivering justice, then they don't deserve to be in this profession. Everything that "Khyber" had mentioned two years back is coming to fruition with regards to NFSU, and the party has just begun.

So what you think will be a good idea to pursue.

I be discriminated in mba too I guess as they prefer engineering and commerce grads in many mba college eligibility and selection.

Thanks. I researched about Mba colleges and their eligibility. Many of them are looking for maths or stats or business maths at 12th and many also have preference for commerce grads and some exclusive for engineering lot.

Should I only try in healthcare mba or hospital mba.

Or I should try in top colleges like iim, fms and tiss, xlri and not worry about being discriminated for being biology background.

Would anyone be able to help with their internship process? What are these firms looking for and how do I cater to it? They have great opportunities am I’m sure the internships are competitive. Have tried emailing partners and hounding the HRs, but no results so far.
