So I have taken admission in RRU GANDHINAGAR BBA LLB HONS. program and left mnlu aurangabad bba llb program because I want to build my career around finance related law and RRU has better faculties for finance alongwith proximity to gift city.

I know I would be criticised for my decision but I don't want to add much financial burden on my parents also RRU had everything I need except corporate culture

So I need help from seniors to tell me what to do/what not to do in next 5 years of law school as there are less law related competitions in RRU in order to make a successful career in law

Any advice would be appreciated

1. Your partner has a budget and will need to do whatever he can in that budget.

2. If someone else agrees to do more - your partner would prefer to replace you for such person - nothing personal but reason being point 1 above.

3. You may discuss with your partner and convince him/ her. You need to ready to accept a reduced package because that allows you to relax a bit but not burn the partners budget. Accept it and don't crib about it.

4. Only time I've seen exceptions - when you're absolutely exceptional in your work where your partner doesn't want to lose you because you're that damn good. This may be the case in your mind but talk to ppl around and pick up traits everywhere - this is not just legal but also client management, communication, etc.

so apply outside? or cultivate an indian professor by attending their public lectures and sending emails that show you listening carefully. if they respond warmly, ask for a quick meeting to discuss the PhD and gauge their interest. Don't be pushy. Just respectful and admiring.

Nothing crazy. A bunch of partners take you through their practices. There's free food (lunch). You sit around, network, take notes (don't) about what area of law/practice you'd like to explore. Its a good, soft landing into the firm, before the transaction-life begins. Enjoy it, these will probably be the only free days you will have at the firm. The first few months are generally nice, and everyone would help you get accustomed to professional life, provided you get teamed with humans and not 'rainmakers' 'dealers' (however they chose to name themselves-basically the serious work over people folks). There are some teams to be avoided at CAM Mumbai like the plague, but in general, as an A0, most of the people are sweet and helpful. Good luck!

Yes, if you love (or remotely like) the practice of law, as opposed to just theoretical law. If you crack a good university, you will crack good placements with T1 firms as well. Age is not a concern. Most of us in law will have careers spanning 40-50 years and some of us do spend the first few years exploring what suits our temperament/interests (corporate law, litigation, in-house jobs, and even research), and it's fine to be 'behind' a few years. You will make it up with money and seniority in due time if you like law. Cheers!

Hello, I have just joined as an AO in one of the Tier 1 firms. I have severe and serious mental health issues. I cannot quit because of financial condition. I am really distressed. Can seniors please help me? My work quality is good and my partner has assured me that the work is not an issue since thatswhy they hired me in the first place when I interned. I understand Internships and working at firm is really different. I really need help with some of the helpful teams that senior could share so that I can sustain this. I am looking at switching to in house etc after a while. However, I have loans to pay since my education was on student loan and family is also dependent on me.

While no one can ever understand what you are feeling maybe my experience may be helpful. I went through similar motions and quit law but came back after a gap of nearly 4 years.

What helped when I quit was therapy, lot of introspection, lot of time alone, and then coming to a realization that it is merely a job. I understood it when I left the profession and started working as a management trainee in a company.

So, if you want to quit law and do something else, do that. Similar feeling may or may not come again in the new profession. If it does, just remember it is a just a job. Nothing more. If you can figure out how to enjoy the job, do that. If you cannot, do not succumb to the negativity or escape from it. Tell yourself its a job and do what you can and not more.

If this does not help, ignore this and just know that even a stranger believes in you and that you will pull through.

How old are you now (ie. how many years to get to 50/60)? If you are 45, and will get there in 5 years, these numbers are too high. If you are 25, and will get there in 25 years, then accounting for inflation, these numbers look right by the time you hit 50/60. This assumes you will retire in a Tier-1 city.

How would a newcomer even improve if they are not thorough with senior's practices or minute preferences, otherwise the senior loses their temper, I think it is better that they do teach properly first by way of discovery of all issues faced by the joinee and then let them figure out gradually? What happened to being a mentor in workspace to your juniors?

I am not trying to normalise this, or pass it off as a joke, but I had my (▮▮▮ floor) partner yell at me, and force me to either take a sabbatical or leave her team when I went to ▮▮▮ to a get a week-or so off for a debilitating medical emergency.

Make sure you say your farewells nicely and cordially (understated), speak to your HR about timeline for the f&f settlement, get your tax slips in order as well (TDS certificates etc if you haven't already gotten them), return office properties, pay-off any dues (canteen etc), so that your exit gets processed quickly, and of course, get an experience letter from the HR. Usually they draft it themselves, but if you have to, make it say that xyz left as A2; was engaged with the firm from abc date to def date. Good luck!
