1) Our economy is growing at around 6.5%. This is extremely slow growth rate for India.

Reason: we are starting at 4Tr base. Almost 8 times smaller than the US's. If we go into per capita: India's per capita is 31 times less. When China was our size, it grew in double digits for over a decade. 2) When it comes to disposable income: India ranks around 140th (disposable income per capita is around 3000$) India: huge market, with very little discretionary/disposable income. In simple words: we have a huge population. But, very few can afford high quality things. 3) This is one of the reasons why India puts significant luxury taxes even things like ACs. When people witness such stupidity, anyone who can leave, leaves. 4) India ranks #1 in net millionaire migration (NMM) * NMM (number of millionaire leaving divided by number of millionaires there are in India) for 2024 is the highest in the world for India 5) In remittances India ranks #1 in the world. Indians are smart/hardworking, they go abroad, work, make money and send it back "home". I don't know if this is a healthy sign or something to be proud of. 6) To accelerate our economy we need to spend money on: Innovation, Healthcare, Education India's spent on education and healthcare (lags the global averages) this again is a fact. Last but not the least: we have a massive incentive problem -- Civil servants who are supposed to make public schools better, send their own kids to private schools. Politicians who are supposed to formulate better & (long-term) economics policies change their kid's citizenships. Civilians/Media who are supposed to ask the right questions: keep doing fake whatsapp forwards. And, keep harping on 40Tr$ economic narrative.

Any of you been to Singapore? The government is the first adopter of AI and automation. You don’t even interact with a human after landing at the airport and crossing immigration. But AI has made jobs easier there, not displaced jobs. Because the population is highly educated and can leverage tech. A taxi driver in Singapore speaks better English than 80% of Senior Advocates designated by our High Courts.

Also, Singapore’s population is just as dense as India. Yet, the city feels less dense and has more greenery than India, because of smart planning. Smart planning is also the reason Singapore is cooler than India, despite bring closer to the equator.

So you have the answer before you. Meritocracy, honest politicians and bureaucrats, education and civic sense will make countries prosper generally and benefit from AI in particular. Populist welfarism, reservation, corruption, institutionalised meritocracy and an uneducated populace will make countries poorer and displace jobs through AI.

Our middle class barely has any strength left after work. That's how they will get us. Tire out people by work and make them obsolete one fine day.

Be tired working intense hours for money --> Be numb to everything else going on around you --> Get replaced by AI --> Get no paycheck --> Be left with no purchasing power--> Get pushed into hard labour to try and not starve

literally think about your example. Because of AI you were asked to do more work. Not less.. People thought that the advent of internet and computers would put people out of jobs. And they did, there were plenty of people who were human calculators hired to do things computers do. But it also created jobs for people who learnt the new tech and adapted. Humans are an adaptive species.

I am the cusp of hiring some people, and starting an office, and I want my office to be top notch for my colleagues, in terms of comforts, facilities - which will increase productivity.

I have worked at various places across the years. My most favorite office was the Ballard Estate offices of Bharucha & Partners. The office had a very unique - closed office type layout. A room or two for a team, some rooms had 3 associates only. Sufficient desk space, outlets, fans, lights, and other desk ornaments like a card holder, mugs. However, their chairs at that time were very lacking. Given the physical separation between rooms, it used to be fairly quiet and gave a good sense of privacy and focus. Did my best focused work there. The office also had good infrastructure - sepoys, pantry staff, housekeeping staff and very robust reception and secretaries. I think the office was previously occupied by TTA, who had furnished the office, on the same model as some UK firm. If I could afford that office, I would rent it right now in the blink of an eye!

Worst firms I have worked at, all had open office cubicle type layouts, they're loud, distracting, bright, cold, impersonal. And of course uncomfortable. All the fixed type desk places all get their desk heights wrong. That's an art in itself or a science in carpentry. (I am looking at you Lower Parel!) And the lack of space!!!!

So guys, please describe a comfortable, productive office for you!!! It could be anything! Warm Lights, fast printers, folders, stationery, pantry! anything!! Please do tell!!!

Rahul is well aware of NLSIU, because former VC Mohan Gopal headed the Congress party’s think tank, the Rajiv Gandhi Foundation, for many years. He was one of Rahul’s closest advisors and played a pivotal role in shaping Rahul’s socialist worldview.

The NLSIU SBA did reach out to Rahul a few times, but the dates did not work out. Rahul spends a large part of the year abroad, and when in India he is mostly confined to Delhi and busy with political work. It’s actually easier for NLUD to invite Rahul.

He is probably the most popular political leader among NLU students, with the likes of Shashi Tharoor, Arvind Kejriwal and Mahua Moitra coming a distant second. What’s more, it’s almost certain that he will be PM one day, because age is on his side. Even if Modi wins in 2029 (which seems unlikely) he will be 63 when the 2034 elections take place. Still young enough.

So the obvious question to ask is whether he has visited an NLU. If not, whether any of the student bodies have invited him? Makes complete sense to invite a future PM, especially one who is loved by students in your college. Also, if he is made aware of the challenges facing NLU students, he will certainly take them up in Parliament.

I feel NLUs are not in his radar right now. Perhaps he isn’t much aware of them, even though one NLU is named after his father (RGNUL).

Hi! I come from a relatively lesser known and liked private but I joined for a runaway NLU faculty that was advertised previously. I graduated in 2023 and since the placement cell did me dirty, I resorted to this new avenue called Business Development in law firms. Initially, I cajoled myself into thinking I am still working at a law firm so it's not too far away from the degree I hold. However, now I feel so cut off from the lawyer world, I want to get out of this creative content, marketing, optimization, and get back into drafting, reading, doing due diligences.
I have a few internships behind me but none of them were hiring during my placement seasons and weren't too keen on call-backs due to the non-NLU status. Any suggestions on how I can get back into corporate law?

This is one of the most important threads on LI. One can’t stress enough how important clothes are (watches too). Your bosses, colleagues and clients will all judge you on it. Even from a dating perspective, don’t expect to date top-tier girls if you don’t dress like a top-tier guy.

After clothes, it’s important to improve your accent and diction. Even if you speak English extremely well, there is always room for improvement. Shashi Tharoor should be the model.

Finally, knowledge of whisky and wine.

Bro, 60,000? I started at 50,000 pre-tax at JSA Bangalore 3 years ago. The work was good but the lack of appropriate pay is terrible! And guess what, an A0 at the same office but a different team used to get 1.2L / month. I, since then, have moved to a Delhi T1 - life has been happy since then.

Why the fck are they building new NLUs instead of improving the infra & faculty of existing NLUs and perhaps increasing quotas for students from states without any domicile advantage? We do not need these many lawyers in this country paying for a Rs 10L education, to be a lowly advocate in some random ass town a local law college degree is enough

The Lit advisory team under Nancy Roy is well-regarded in the Delhi IP circuit; she's Mr. CM Lall's protege, hence has the respect of the older bar too. The rest of the team is liberal with advice and opportunities to get work. Just ensure you deliver what they ask and are eager in asking for work. The Prosecution team can be a bit more gloomy, as the culture flows from the top, yet having said that, the work is of good quality, as the firm's partners are good at maintaining client relations. The stipend was 3k, the last time I interned there. As far as CV value is concerned, it depends on who's looking at your CV; someone in the know within the Delhi IP circuit would appreciate it, anyone other than that probably not so much, as the firm does little beyond IP.
