Maybe you haven't been part of the research process. In India, unfortunately, in majority places, including NLUs, IITs and IIMs, one cannot select or choose their own advisors. So no one can choose their supervisor. Sure if you have internal connections that's a different issue. But majority people do not have that option. Their supervisor or advisor is chosen by the university themselves.

Maybe improve your comprehension. That's what OP is saying; In law, a researcher doesn't mean only after getting a phd. A PhD doesn't make you a researcher. It makes you a academician and that involves teaching and administrative work, something that a lot of people hate.

Research can be done even after an LLB or an LLM. So if you want to do research, don't get into a PhD program. Instead using your bachelors and/or masters degree get into a research centre or thinktank. Many have research assistant and research associate post with minimal llb/LLM requirement. Do that instead.

Jindal maybe the only except. Also it depends on the advisor you get. Jiggles is good for outreach especially international,.but you must use maximum of the opportunities it gives. The stipend is good for non-jrf. But don't expect instant recognition like an NLS or NLUD or NALSAR PhD. You will have to build your publications accordingly.

As long as your end goal is in sight, it's fine. Don't do it as a backup. Do it if you enjoy it and see yourself in academia. Whether you get selected in academia or not is a different issue. But the will has to be there. Experienced many boring and non enthusiastic professors in our lifetime.

True. Since people believe a Phd is a research degree, I should get that. But look at majority of think tanks across the world, everyone there has a LLM or masters. Hardly few PhDs you'll find. A PhD in research centre is necessary for STEM. But not for law, since majority of our research can be done doctirinal and we don't need hardcore empirical or lab evidence. So that's something a llb can easily provide. The LLM helps with a certain specialisation like ipr or tax to give you more edge is your writings. But the rest is more about publications.

I have recently graduated and most of my internships have been IP and commercial litigation oriented. I have interned w a well-reputed senior advocated and also an ASG. I have also interned at specialized IP firms, with an assessment internship at Fidus recently. I loved the work culture and the scope of work also, got a lot of exposure. However they didn't have a vacancy so I was not hired. I am currently based in my hometown and working under a Senior advocate who specializes in corporate banking, finance and real estate litigation with a good clientele and he is also a good mentor. He was previously a partner at a tier 1 firm and then started his own practice. I have been working for 2 weeks now and my pay is 40k. I am looking for IP litigation roles but currently unable to find any vacancies/opportunities. I am afraid if i continue here then I might not able to branch into IP later which is what I want to do. Should I instead focus on interning in delhi/bombay and keep trying or continue with this current position that I have? please help me out!

Please please do not quote incorrect figures. Let’s not misguide people here. 6-7 PQE make about 30-33 LPA depending on the team and practice area. Partners start at 48-52 LPA in tax practice. There is some level of discretion also, so some partners and APs may make a bit more. These figures do not include bonus component. Bonus for AP level can be 3-9 LPA, and for partners can be 4-12 LPA. LKS has this bonus formula of X, 2X and 3X. Again, whether targets are achieved, sophistication of matters done in a year, some level of discretion, play a role here.

If your claim is correct, you are one of those preferred teams that gets benefit due to this kind of discretion. But it doesn’t hold true for most of the practice areas, offices and teams.

Symbiosis people are everywhere and they also help student interns from their college. Great camaderie between their student community. I come from a T-1 college and my alums never supported me the way Symbiosis people support their student interns. I saw some of the senior associates helping their student interns in assessment tasks. They also get weirdly passive aggressive against other kids. But gotta give credit where it's due because their alums really support each other and it shows. You'll find symbi kids at all levels in all kinds of firms from A0 to Partner level. Lowkey wish I did my law from Symbi, their alum support is unmatched.

Hi, i am a grad from T-3 Nlu and in 1 year was able to make more 200 independent appearances and argued on several occasions. RN I am having difficulty in joining a chamber which can offer around 40-50K in delhi. Is my expectation high or my luck difficult? i feel i have gained good exposure and this salary justifies what i am able to bring to the table or Should i apply to law firms?

One big advantage we have is that we will inherit our parents’ wealth, which will be a lot more substantial than what our parents inherited. So whereas our parents might have lacked a cushion and been under pressure to work till 60 or 70, we don’t have that. Also, everyone in our generation has/will have 0 to 1 kids, whereas the previous generation had 1 to 2. So a saving there as well.

However, one big difference that works against us is that our generation is addicted to luxury spending. We cannot imagine life without buying expensive watches, eating out in expensive restaurants and showing off on Instagram. So even if we retire earlier than our parents, this pressure to spend will still be there.

So, for a luxury retirement, I’m thinking 50 crore corpus at age 50-60 if you 0 kids and an earning wife (or no wife); 65 crore if you have 1 kid and an earning wife; 90 crore if you have 1 kid and a housewife? Includes inheritance and also assumes elderly parents fund themselves.

Your college and rank make a lot of difference. Since you have an "assessment" internship, I am presuming you have a good batch rank but a poor college, since CAM would soon be going out for campus hirings everywhere. Honestly, sounds fairly difficult given that the timing is not the best. July end- mid August is campus hiring time, post which they almost stop hiring for the batch, other than team based needs. That said, if you do outperform and leave a mark, and have a bit of luck at your side in that the team and partner truly like you and have a vacancy to fill, you might have a chance. And if its a referral or contact, all the more so.

doesn't sound like the smartest thing to do at 28. You are 28, 4 pqe, lit money will start coming in soon. Corp, on the other hand, would discount your pqe and put you at a payscale equivalent to your 25 yo coworkers. Being old is also not perceived well in firms, and if you end up at a t-1, you'll find your batchmates are now SAs. The switch doesn't seem as difficult as the journey from their. However, do look for disputes and WCC heavy teams - will place you at an advantage with the pay their, plus not so much of a shift from what you are doing currently

NLUO was done the moment it went for 50% domicile. If you look at it, in the next 4-5 year there will be more locals than outsiders. It will be no different than any other local state law university. The pan India effect will die down. Also the new phds/TAs and professors being hired are more local. The entire structure will change.

Adding LLB, MBA and BA law will further deteriorate the campus.

Look at NLS, it's facing the brunt for bringing in additional courses to the point that the hostels cannot accommodate anymore. The only reason it's not falling drastically is because it's NLS. But the same won't happen for NLUO.

People will prefer HNLU, NUALS and MNLU Mumbai after the new campus over NLUO.
