NLIU is alltime best and have produced excellent legal luninaries. GNLU is hyped up and defintely cannot overtake the NLIU in academics and its excellence. GNLU has long way to go. Am a Legal Head in a big corproate and my son got admitted in NLIU and not took the offer of GNLU which had a lower cut off, made a smart decision. GNLU is desperately ramping up by opening Silvassa center etc.. but not a match to the Old and successful NLIU. The batch size of NLIU is 120 against 180 of GNLU. See the placement percentage and passout percentage with the total strength of the college. it is academics that matters and Infrastructure is only an added advantate.

Hi LI. I recently graduated from a t1 private uni, and am left without a job. I did 3 seperate stints with a t1, let's call them BAZ for anonymity, but they couldn't give me a job due to the lack of vacancies. However I got on with the team really well, and they've told me to stay in touch and they'd try to shift me over from any job I get as soon as possible (yes ik a lot people probably say this but I'm willing to gamble on it)

The dilemma arises here - I can either take up a job at a boutique or t3 for a while and switch over to BAZ, or (I've recently found out that I have a strong contact at BAZ) I can join another office of the firm. I got offered the job through the contact but I said I'd have to think about it.

The pros are very evident, but the cons for me are that I'll probably always have imposter syndrome, and it won't feel right to me to get the job this way. But then again who plays fair in the corp world, and I know this is probably a decent start for my career as well.

Just wanted to know your thoughts because I have to let the contact know ASAP.

Are MBA people placed in a different hostel, or is it shared with Law people?

If it's shared, are the floors different, or that too is shared?

And lastly, do MBA people get single rooms, or do they share as well?

As someone who graduated recently, ragging is almost non-existent at NLUJ and even if some senior on an ego trip tries to embarass you, just tell them you're uncomortable/have to be somewhere urgently. Don't believe the trope that ragging "builds connections" because there are much better means to connect with people, voluntarily.

You cannot believe the relief, the utter, unbridled joy, that hearing this common sense, completely correct, reasonable perspective gives me. We have become so emotionally involved in petty law school bickering that common sense has gotten lost somewhere. This is coming from someone who has never been to NLSIU, probably never will go, but I have a good quality foreign LLM under my belt, with partial funding involved. You just have to look at what's coming out of there (like the course plan linked above). Why, oh why, can't more people be clear-eyed like you? From having done a public law LLM which involved legal theory work, too, and which has a justified market reputation for being very challenging and stimulating, I can tell you that if this course plan is representative of what is done at NLSIU, not only can we conclude that 'NLSIU is the only Indian Law School which is offering a LL.M. programme that is worth attending', we must (whether we like it or not) conclude that NLSIU's LLM is getting right the fundamental aspects of the stuff that the globally best universities get right with their LLM programmes. If NLSIU had been doing this stuff when I was looking at LLM programmes, I sure would (and should) have given it a good deal of priority. Congratulations to them and looking forward to the day when, even if it is still mocked for the 'Harvard of the East' nickname, people can acknowledge at least that a 'UCL' or 'LSE of the East' (or maybe so far as 'Oxford of the East') might be appropriate. Obviously, there's still some way to go for that to happen, but they're quite far along that path - further than many people (in India and beyond) think, or would like to believe.

That man truly made me confident about research in law. Understanding the ins and out of corporate litigation and didnt treat me like a dumb intern. Showed and took us to courts for hearings and showed us what happens. a nice mentor. He'll always have my respect.

If possible, keep your formal shoes in office, and wear crocs, or shoes that cover your toes, (you don't want mud on your feet when you put on fresh socks) while travelling. It looks horrendous when you see someone walk in court with shoes which aren't formal shoes. If this a hassle, maybe you can buy formal looking shoes which are rain ready, you will find them at churchgate station in the subway, they are kinda disposalable.

Prof. GB Reddy is an accomplished academic and an excellent teacher. I've studied under him. He also teaches / taught a few courses at NALSAR. He is also the DPIIR-IPR Chair at Osmania.

He has held multiple administrative posts and for sure will do well at NUALS. He may be from a TLC but he is a good administrator. I sincerely hope he is able to do good at NUALS.

I was just looking through leading Senior Advocates, and I noticed that two, Rohan Shah and Sajjan Poovayya, were also Managing Partners & Founders of leading full service firms.

Surely this must be very unique, or am I mistaken?

I know firms have seen regular Partners / Founding partners be designated as Senior Advocates, but both firms, ELP / Poovayya & Co are very much still seen as Rohan's / Sajjan's firms, respectively.

If we are talking about the work culture, there is no culture as such. If you compare it against the modern best practices. I have seen first year associates cry for being berated by Partners. Though, law is a high pressure environment, the room for growth is very little if there is no flexibility for making mistake and making amends in future. ▮▮▮ As a tier 3 law firm, they havent really grown out of thier traditional culture of keeping thier associates on toes to make them work. basically, if your idea of working aligns with these practices, its a great law firm to work. You will surely learn a lot. Otherwise, I would suggest a firm which believes in having a work life balance.

Hi everyone! I was wondering if anyone here has any idea about when the Trilegal 2025 Induction is expected to take place. I’ve been eagerly waiting for some clarity on the timeline so I can plan accordingly. Also, I wanted to check if Trilegal provides any travel allowances or reimbursements for outstation candidates attending the induction.

Wanted to do litigation during law school, later got carried away with the judiciary preparation wasted my whole 5 years degree time in that, now not eligible for the same exam. If want to start practice from today...can I do something in that or should wait for 3 years time and prepare for the exam?

I am a lawyer working in a boutique law firm, looking to move out. I don't think law in itself is exciting to me anymore, and I would like to do something within the intersection of law and business. While working in a business development team in a law firm would be a dream come true, is working in sales (where the potential customers would be law firms) for a legal compliance team be bad for my career?

Any genuine advice is welcome. I have to give an answer soon so please help.

Try and see if you can collaborate with other firms and work with them on a project basis. For this, try speaking with younger firms who don't have too many partners or necessarily expertise in M&A or lit. This will help you in getting a steady flow of work and money, while you continue to work to develop your own clientele.

Another facet which is important here is that you may suddenly get lot of work so keep an eye out for a junior or two even if it means paying them during a lean phase.

I have back issues due to which I am unable to sit for more than 1 hour. However, I can walk the whole day and work long hours if there is freedom to stand and work and take small walking breaks/ read while walking.

I have got enough marks in CUET to get 3 year LLB at CLC Delhi. Given my physical limitations should I consider law, especially litigation?

Ps - I don’t have any family background in law. Also, I can’t go for the judiciary exams due to personal reasons.

LI commenter at age 20: Jindal and foreign LLMs are rubbish, only for rich and spoilt kids. NLUs are the best. Jindal does paid PR on LI. 😡

Same LI commenter at age 50: My son’s going to Jindal and then abroad for an LLM. Much preferable to an NLU. Please don’t tell me how to spend my money. Be kind, do better. 🙂

To be fair, a lot of these alums got into NLS when the exam wasn’t nearly that competitive and hardly anyone knew about law. NLS becoming so good was probably as much a surprise for them as it was for the public in general. And their kids may not be that driven or in a position to compete in an all-India entrance exam like CLAT or AILET and achieve a good rank for a top NLU. No point of getting some 1000-something rank and going to TNNLU or RGNUL when your parents are from NLS. Easier to just go abroad if you have money and once you enter the Indian marriage and even job market a few years later, the whole studying abroad story adds to social prestige. Can’t blame the NLS parents for doing this. India doesn’t have enough good colleges.
