Hey! I’ll be interning with KCO for a month under the Noida office, but the internship will be virtual. Since I’m hoping for a PPO, I’m wondering if I should switch to another KCO office where I can be physically present. Which KCO office would you suggest I switch to for better chances of getting a PPO....Mumbai, Delhi, Bengaluru, or another office?

Could anyone please guide me on the colleges one could consider for part time PhD in law? Ones that wouldn’t have a strict on-campus stay requirement? RGNUL and NLU-D have strict on campus requirements. NLS does not have the concept of part time PhDs. I came across NALSAR which divides its compulsory classes across weekends, etc.so working professionals can be easily accommodated. But I haven’t been reading very positive reviews about NALSAR inasmuch as there are alleged administrative delays, high attrition among professors and delayed completion of PhD. GNLU offers part time PhD as well, is it good? Jindal seems like a good option too. Is anyone here pursuing/ has pursued part time PhD and can please guide?

Lots of issues with Sheela Rai. She does not even share the teaching plan that is supposed to be shared at the start of semester. How are students even suppose to know the syllabus? Makes personal comments on students for silliest of reasons. Should be shown the door for betterment of everyone.

NLSIU won't support it, because they are way ahead and don't want benefits for others. Also, the fact that Sudhir had pulled out of CLAT and conducted his own entrance shows his disdain for other NLUs. It was also contended by them (via Vikramjit Banerjee) in the domicile reservation case that NLSIU is a national law university and others are state university because CJI is Chancellor of NLSIU.

It is a niche field, yes; but the situation is not as dire as it has been made out to be.

TMT is a broad bucket (abbreviation for Telecom, Media, Tech). The term was created when there was growing sectoral regulation due to advancements in these industries, and existing laws were not sufficient to fully address the issues arising therefrom.

Over a period of time, and in particular, more recently, TMT has been used to cover any upcoming area of law - Fintech, Media and Entertainment, Gaming - essentially anything that may have an interplay with either the T, M, or T. As pointed out above, this primarily includes data privacy, telecom, media, and tech regulations.

Certain TMT teams have specialised focuses - for instance, Harsh Walia at Khaitan & Co specialises in Telecom. Jaideep Reddy from Trilegal and Smita Jha from Khaitan & Co focus on Fintech and Crypto. This does not, however, mean that they do not advise on other areas of law that form part of the broader TMT bucket.

IPR, being a separate field of its own, has separate specialised partners that work in the industry. It is very rare to now see an IP team also advise on general TMT laws. You could argue that the AZB IP teams do broader work than just core IP, and therefore, are TMT teams. However, they continue to be characterized as an IP practice (whose core focus would be trademarks, copyrights, and design prosecution work, along with transactional support to their corporate and M&A teams).

The opportunities are fewer given that the number of partners in the industry are limited. However, if you make it to a Tier 1 practice, the pay is often at par with other corporate teams. Your bonus will directly depend on the amount of work your partner brings, and a function of how well you bill (or appease to your partners). There is differential pay in certain "IP" teams but the pay still exceeds what is paid by pure boutiques.

Is it true that T1 firms don’t hire freshers in the disputes team? I am from the batch of 2028 in T2 NLU and want to pursue only disputes and was looking at options to apply for an internship so that I can land a job. Need advice. PS: Suggestions on boutique firms or chambers that pay decent and hire freshers.

I wasted few years in Neet drop than had no idea of clat and other career and did bpt (physiotherapy). Now physiotherapy though from Top college still aged and sad as it has very less scope not much jobs plus pay like 15k to 20k max. Also not many professor or academic jobs so pg and phd may go waste too.

Main goal is government job but getting afraid seeing so much competition and so much people giving every single exam and unpredictable pattern and all of exams.

Few science ones got into iit and one even did upsc other in ssc dentist doctor mbbs etc.

And I failed though was smart and ended up a physiotherapist.

No money for business or anything. Not even for iim would like to get fms or tiss as poor.

I've heard of people interning at SAM as well, aside from t1's they are a lot less stringent, Wadia is infamous for bulking up primarily through assessment interns from June/July after you graduate so they get 3 months of free labour from you.

I don't have a proper list, just going off what I've heard from friends who have been through the process.

Just curious to know if there's anything that one should be mindful of while making decision about the next boss - like the internet is full of 100s of advice on how to crack the interview but no one tells you what to look for in the prospective boss. How to judge the interviewer as a boss? Especially when this factor is most crucial in deciding where one may land in the future.

Analyses things like? As someone who was part of the placement cell, they shortlisted as per practice area preference and ranks and then took a 15mins/candidate interview with hardly any technical questions. I don't know what big analysis they have done or what kind of real talent they could discover in those 15mins of interview + a mechanical shortlist.

The smart play is to take it. Chuck the embarassment because when you get confirmed as an associate next year, you will be making more than what an A3/SA would typically make at an unknown boutique - not to mention working on matters that would be far, far more valuable on your CV. As someone interested in arbitration, I thought of taking up the nlsiu post graduation diploma for it but unsure of what exactly it'll help me achieve - is it valued in CVs for arbitration based roles (at arbitration centres)? Or is it purely academic with not much practical use? Suppose I wanna shift to a different country (Singapore/Dubai) in an arbitration based role, I'm wondering if this course will carry any relevant weightage/influence in getting me selected. If anyone has undertaken this course previously, kindly provide reviews as well (it costs almost 2 months of my earnings as a fresher but I'm considering this as an investment - hence, want to know if its a good one or not worth it)

Kannad-A-, not Kannad please. And yes, while Christ and other Bangalore college graduates dominate, it’s not “just South Indians” there. North Indians in Christ also get placed. It’s mostly because those from Delhi Mumbai stick for 1 year in Bangalore and go back to their home cities. Also very rarely do no Bangalore kids intern or afford to intern in Bangalore - and most jobs in Blr are internship based. You take Khaitan Bangalore - 80 percent of partners are North Indian. Like wise, Trilegal’s big corp partners as Kosturi Ghosh and Arjun Ghose. Sound South Indian? It’s not bias.
