Besides that, I honestly dont think students are qualified to judge teachers. They dont know the subject, all they can judge is whether they like the person and whether they find class entertaining and fun. Most indian students wouldnt know rigor if it hit them in the face. and studies demonstrate huge biases in how different kinds of teachers are evaluated in student feedback. You want to evaluate teachers? I'm making a rhetorical point—teachers won't do it even when their students say and write and behave horribly because teachers are more mature and professional than that. Its a shame that students these days aren't parented or even expected to behave professionally at all. Universities die by doing this. Infantilise your students and treat your teachers like liabilities, and you'll have a bunch of whiny babies and high attrition rates.

The system is completely broken and disincentivises merit and academic excellence. Barring NLSIU, the faculty is mostly mediocre. When a rare good teacher with good qualifications comes along, he usually faces resentment from corrupt admin and colleagues. They also give him excess work and make him teach unrelated subjects. Then you have entitled and woke students demanding high grades for poor work. They also don’t pay attention in class and use AI for projects. Smartphones have fried their brains since childhood.

It upsets you that there are regions in the country with greater population than yours and who are comfortable in speaking a single language and its associated dialects. But that is no reason to accuse them of imposing themselves upon you. It is a historical fact that the freedom struggle was primarily led by people in the central and northern Indian subcontinent while the political and economic elites in peninsular region were happy to piggyback on their coat-tails to achieve domination in their provinces. The region of Bengal has contributed immensely to freedom struggle but even they lack the kind of hatred that Tamil Nadu and its elite have against Hindi without reason. Even then, no one has forced Hindi on you. But it seems that you just want every Hindi speaker to abdicate their own culture and language just because you have already done so with yours. That is not a fair expectation. This is one nation and that does not mean that it should only have one language. Not at all. But it also does not mean linguistic identity should be used (like it is being used in TN) to divide national identity by putting people into these mutually exclusive silos. The state of Tamil Nadu is singular in its hostility to a single language today. The evidence for Hindi imposition is mostly anecdotal and consists of no more than a few errant public sector employees or a few uncharitable private folks who are always looking for a fight on any issue, including language. That is what gets picked up on news and over internet. A large majority is simply trying to make an honest living. Sometimes there can be misunderstandings over language but that is no reason to judge and condemn an entire community of its speakers. Learn whichever language you want. Sorry if it affects your plans. It is certainly not fair to discriminate against one category of applicants like this. Having said that, the phrase "A degree equivalent to any of the above" on the same page in a list of applicable degrees that includes the two-year LLM should, in theory, also apply to one-year LLM programmes since both the one-year and the two-year are, in fact, equivalent, but it could also be a case of bad drafting and IIT Kharagpur may not agree if we ask them that.

Thanks. It is nice to have the perspective of a current PhD student. In case you are familiar with PhD students (NLUD, NALSAR, NUJS, etc.) in other NLUs, can you draw a comparison with NLSIU in terms of coursework? Also, any idea where are the recently minted PhDs from NLSIU working at currently?

Many of the supervisors are not really domain experts regarding the subjects of the theses that they are supervising. Most of the coursework does not focus on the practical aspects of how to conduct various types of research and analysis of the data. Almost no insight into how to use tech for research ethically for instance, nor software for qualitative data analysis. Most problematic thing is that even if your thesis is deemed approved by your supervisor and external examiners, it is still up to the VC whether to pronounce it satisfactory, even for those subjects where he is nowhere near an expert, yet keeps sitting on those theses for months at end.

But in the case of this concerned scholar, the petitions had more to do with bullying other students, faculty, and administrators who dared to disagree with them. Buddy, I urge you to be principled and reject every single additional mark to be awarded once the final answer key comes in then, since according to your sage wisdom, the paper is perfect as is. A claim that the paper was generally alright is one thing. Saying there isn't a SINGLE wrong question is delusion.

Why not go speak to the manager and ask how you can fix the situation? You can start by mentioning you notice the difference in work load between others and yourself and would like to take on something and also suggest that you will make a daily plan on whatever assignment she/he gives you and look forward to weekly feedback. Sometimes the easiest way is just to maturely address what most people don't like to talk about. Of course if you aren't able to make headway with this approach then maybe it is time to look.
