Depends on the team honestly. If you are interested try figuring out which Partner/s you would be working with and if you want you work with them. But it’s difficult to figure how a work relationship might turn out from a distance, so it’s okay to try and experiment. No judgements on yourself

I receive roughly half that in the same time period for Associateship. Many many of those who apply are bright and hardworking. The ones I recruit are serious and committed to their work and display zeal to work hard whenever required.

Hence, your assumption that the rest of your generation is “with you” is unfounded. In fact, your buddies must be telling you “ya bro, screw the overlords”, but in reality, they will be working like beasts and ensuring they secure their future. Don’t get left behind beta. While I work in corp team and may not know nitty gritties of disputes, I just have a different suggestion. Lot of courts don't have good talent and have people practicing basis more jugaad and strictly not by law. To that extent, considering the stuff you have already done and seem to be motivated, you can also consider sticking around and can create your own brand and clientele!

obviously Bihar and Jharkhand, you will have home state advantage if you get selected. Delhi and Rajasthan are also worth trying. Don't even bother about UP. If you get more than 70% then you can give MP as well. Most of the other states will have local language requirement which you may not have

It's too hectic. They teach one section but the load is too much because you've to finish the syllabus in 2.5 months. Plus there are components like moots and other things in a subject that put too much pressure on teachers. None of the teachers I've interacted with were living a healthy life, sleeping at 4 am preparing for the class, sometimes staying till 9 on campus for vivas etc.

They all are good respectable faculty. 3-4 leaving is normal for any place. And glorifying one or two faculty of one or two subjects is stupid. New people will come in. They learn and grow. Faculty members are not elected representatives. Some may just want to teach. Some may be good in research. Some good at marketing themselves. Some good at all. Same like in law firms or any other job. Dont make it more than that.

This post is nothing but an agenda to malign people who are just doing their work. The institution went through a difficult last semester putting a lot of emotional burden on our teachers. Dont bully teachers.

On the question of government intervention, Karnataka is so much worse. They practically threatened to destroy NLSIU until the university had to finally give in and create horizontal reservation on the basis of domicile. This happened despite NLSIU initially proving their case in the High Court that they are immune from following state policy on reservation. At some point NLSIU finally realised that this is India where even when you win against the government, the government will still find newer and unscrupulous ways to bleed you to death.

You say the idea that free and open disagreements lead to more accurate truth finding is some noble mirage and divorced from reality. That's just a bald assertion thats based in nothing at all except ideology.

All of physical science evolved by people disagreeing about how to collect data, how to interpret it and how to test their hypothesis. Very good people disagreed with each other about whether the earth revolved around the sun or not. Galileo was persecuted by the emperors of his time because he said the earth revolved around the sun and proposed a helio-centric model.

The lesson you take from Galileo is that everyone should have had the implicit knowledge that the earth did revolve around the sun (even though Galileo was heretical for thinking so) and should have dismissed, condescended to, and ignored any opposition. The way you think about these questions would assume that we all know what the right thing to do is and we should all act on it. The truth is, we don't all know what the right thing to do is. No one knows what the right thing to do is—we're humans and not gods. What we can do is through free and open debate come to an agreement about some facts. In a world where heretics are ignored or persecuted, we would not have most of modern medicine, we would be giving heroin to babies for a cold and not have any knowledge of what a gene or an atom is.

Youre drawing a strawman by saying that I think ideology holds all answers—thats explicitly not my position. My argument is that no ideology- not right left or middle- holds any answers. So if we're really invested in solving problems,. Solving problems rather than virtue signalling, then we shouldnt shy away from freely discussing how different people view problems and what solutions might or might not work.

I honestly think the problem is that the moderators themselves seem to be students who lack maturity. They seem to be unable to behave in a fair manner. Perhaps some adults in the room need to step in to moderate.

Being a professor is not a public role. They didnt run for elections and they arent public personalities by and large. Zero professors anywhere have signed up to the profession thinking their students will write nonsense about them anonymously on websites. And almost none of them care about anonymous praise either. If students want to make personal attacks fair game- they should know that whats good for the goose is good for the gander. How would you like it if your worst moment in the classroom- everytime you were prepared or not prepared for class, every stupid answer you gave on a test or every plagiarised assignment you turned in were broadcast on a website? Surely if youre attending a public institution youre at least partially subsidised by tax payer funds. the same exact rationale that exists for public shaming of professors exists for that of students.

If there are genuine greivances- against scam courses or professors- the appropriate place to bring it up is with your VC/ Dean. Follow an internal process.

youre fundamentally misunderstanding what university education is all about. Its not a tuition class from school where youre made to remember mindless information through repetition. University education is about developing your own skills and knowledge and professors can merely serve as guides. In the best universities in the world you hardly ever have lectures- what you have a small classes and discussions where the professor guides and questions the students and in law schools- uses the socratic method.

Its not the professors job to make you know the information. Its your job. Its the professors job to know the information himself and to be available for guidance, do the needful in classes, evaluate your work. Thats it.

The entire event was completely homogeneous and riddled with the hateful dichotomy of oppressor-oppressed. There was no actual diversity of thought. Events like these are motivated by reasons of ideology and partisanship while being disguised in the word salad of social justice. By the way, this is the same IITD which also has an Office of Diversity and Inclusion, another opaque and powerful body that has been recently created to further contribute towards balkanisation of the student society at the institute.

Please see through the abstraction of language and concepts here to observe the real argument: that India is not a nation of individual citizens with inalienable rights but a community of communities engaged in the process of bartering interests. Everything is relative. No inherent values exist that Indians share with each other. They are all mutual enemies of each other and tied in delicate balance. For the author, in the name of “recognitional legitimacy”, it is perfectly reasonable to discriminate against people by calling them and their forefathers oppressors! And, of course, what is “pragmatic accomodation” if not a happy declaration that not only is India not a nation but that the only way to govern it is by managing groups and communities in their respective ghetto-like existence.

But you will also have nicer moments. Remember, this too shall pass. Now, since you mentioned your interest in both the law and in humanities, you may consider applying to BA (Hons.) at NLSIU. It is a new programme but it does appear to be well-designed. I think you will enjoy it and will surely develop new interests and capabilities. Give it a try. You can still do LLB (Hons.) afterwards at NLSIU (they have reserved 10% of the seats for their BA students). Alternately, you can also prepare for CUET-UG and try getting in a good social science programme in a university like DU. Feel free to reply to this comment in case you have any further doubts. I am a student at a private law uni. Due to a desperate situation with our placements, I applied to all manner of places and have now been offered a business consultancy-risk role with a big 4 firm. What is the scope of growth here? What is the work like. And most importantly should I take it up

In my experience of how a tier 1 functions, working till very late 3-4 days a week should be acceptable upto PA level. One has to do billable work of at-least 40-50 hours per week. And I don’t mean inflated hours or hours involving only proof reading or research or coordination. But if counsels and junior partners themselves are staying back till very late (1 am and 3 am) and coming to office at noon or at lunch almost every day, then there is something very wrong with these teams. Unless these individuals are working on some newspaper deal, how are they justifying the billable hours to their clients? Are their clients paying for all the excessive partner/counsel hours?

Pick a hobby, make deeper connections at work, try not to do WFH (remember how people got burnt out during pandemic as WFH has no human interactions), plan your vacations in advance. Introspect if you’re really enjoying what you’re working on and if not, think about another area of law that really interests you.
