Could people with experience of having worked as in house lawyers elaborate on what are the best practices? How to get better at doing what you do? Have you seen anybody with a legal background contributing on the business/commerical/financial side? What are the drawbacks? Are you employee or on retainer?

Is it just my team or the juniors nowadays are increasingly shirking off work by citing other plans for night, saying no to work on weekends or wanting to leave from office early? I mean it’s fine if you believe in a Work Life Balance but it’s a service industry, why behave like this?

Unfortunately, that's the reality of most work places. Nice, honest hardworking people always get the short end of the stick, but remember being honest is a choice we make. Atleast for me, it helps me sleep at night. I might not be the most successful lawyer but I am at peace.

HI, I'm a first year law student and i took part in a mediation competition and with over 25 law schools across the country and most of em being second and third years i felt pretty underconfident going in, however we cleared the initial two rounds and they went really well and the judge explicitly gave me a mention both times and made it to the top 8 but unfortunately got knocked out. I feel pretty bad and can't seem to shake the feeling off. How do i move past this so that i can focus on the upcoming sem and other competitions that might come, thank you!

Tax lawyers seem to really like swinging their d**** around in the name of their practice area. But tax advice from tax lawyers in India is one of the most retarded, caveated and useless piece of advice that one can ever pay for. Some of the thickest and dumbest lawyers I have seen have been from tax teams in Indian law firms who need to be spoon-fed the minutes of details of a deal, after which their advice eventually turns out to be so pedantic, I could have just read the relevant section, 3 case laws and done it myself - which now I often do. Tax is not that tough, and tax lawyers in India are a useless bunch - no client with self respect will go to a lawyer for tax advice, instead of his CA.

I have the same doubt, i am judge in one of the state. I want to get out after 4-5 years do LLM and maybe join litigation law firm in delhi.

Is this plan feasible!? Can i make it in delhi after being in one of the state judiciary???

P.s. i have no dependents, i have no plans to marry ever.

How does an NLS BA get you any closer to studying law at NLS?

If your end goal is to study law at NLS then study for CLAT! Else do a BA from some easy place which will allow you to prepare hard enough to crack NLS LLB.

i attempted CLAT 2025 n got a rank of 3xx which is enough for me to get into tier 1 or 2 at least im hoping.

BUT, the problem is that my, parents who were thrilled about my results, suddenly are against the idea of me pursuing my education elsewhere.

I will tell you from my expereince it depends on your priorities.

1. If you want work-life balance then go for govt jobs.

2. If you want money, job satisfaction but little to zero work life balance law firms are a good option.

Another factor to consider is, its very difficult to get into any government service, almost all exams have a very high level of competition, especially in the legal stream vacancies are very less. So a lot of people who are negative about government jobs never have had the oppurtunity to work a public sectr job. So in conclusion, if you want a job soon after graduation, then look for law firms. But if you are good at academics and can speand some time preparing for exams after college give govt exams. There is howver no gurantee that you will make it.
