PS: And for god's sake, stop debasing yourself! If you are at a RG uni, as you claim, you've done reasonably well for yourself, education-wise! Just cause this website's got a bunch of trolls who haunt it making out like NLUs are the gold of legal education worldwide doesn't mean you have to introduce yourself like this! No doubt, in the Indian context, most of the NLUs are worth studying at above all other places (I'd go to most NLUs over Jindal, for example, which is in the international rankings, like your uni, but in the Jindal context that is misleading). Being at a non-NLU law school in India indicates something very different to people about a student's quality of education and (presumed) intelligence compared to being a law student in the UK. Please don't devalue your credentials like this - you do a disservice to yourself, your uni and your parents/family (whoever has invested in your education) by speaking like this. I can understand if you were to be asking on a U.S. equivalent of LI about 'Ivy League tag', but NLU tag? No need for such modesty - it is cringe! Just concentrate on ensuring you can send in a good CV and cover letter to the law firms, that's it. And TBH, use the Indian internships as a springboard to strengthen your experience profile for a vac scheme application, nothing else. Stick to your UK journey, get yourself a TC, qualify as a solicitor and then maybe think again about coming back to India if you so really want it. And even if you do return to India, please, please, don't introduce yourself as a 'non-NLU lawyer' - you'll only get laughed at!

I know somebody who was at a Russell Group uni a couple of years ago (Indian, of course). Currently works as a finance lawyer in a fancy Anglo-American firm (London office). Did an internship at JSA between first to second year of uni. Think this person navigated it via cold emails.

Most people get firm internships in India either through the placement committee of their batch/university or through cold emails. It would be fair to assume that the placement committee of your university (or whatever the equivalent may be) would not be interested in approaching Indian law firms for a few people. So just send cold emails. With regards to eligibility, I have known 2nd years in the Indian 3-year LLB to get firm internships so you should be fine. Coming to the probability of you being actually taken onboard, it is quite hard to say and would honestly just depend on the individual eccentricities of the HR people or partners of the firm you are applying to.

Have been seeing scores of posts on this platform which suggest law firm associates will have “lavish weddings” or fancy club memberships. So let me break the reality it down for you:

- Most associates don’t save a lot of money as living in Mumbai is extremely expensive. So question of living an “extravagant lifestyle” doesn’t arise.

-Salaried Partners make enough for a trip or two here and there and maybe buy a house in the suburbs.

-Only after becoming an equity partner and spending a couple of years as that can you afford swanky houses in Bombay, club memberships, luxury cars.

So next time you think about a lavish lifestyle while working in T1, wait for 20-25 years after graduating from law school.

Agree with choosing TD (who has a similar style and approach as the main guy in the UK) over the other fellas. He doesn’t breath down your neck 24/7 and lets you lead the matter and this will boast your confidence. I have worked with both in the past and would honestly suggest literally anyone to choose TD especially if you are a female who prefers bosses who don’t micro manage and are more Genz friendly. You will end up looking and being sick and unhealthy if you join the other teams due to their unreasonable deadlines and archaic style of working. Please refer to the several comments all over LI in relation to this team. If so many people are saying the same thing then why do you want to risk both your mental sanity and career growth

Aashit is gone on a long leave. Effectively settled in London. Doubt he will come back since the two EPs - Utsav and Tirthankar have taken charge. If it were for Aashit, I would have recommended joining JSA. But now no more, the new EPs are a complete no no. This team is now seeing its downfall with no one willing to join and rampant exits. Consequently quality of team and so is the work going for a toss.

Can anyone please let me know which firms are hiring freshers, 2026 Batch. There are very few firms with any teams at all in the first place and the uncertainty about which of them would actually hire is really disheartening. Any information at all would be greatly appreciated, thank you!

Why trollish? Why does everyone treat tongue in cheek like it is some sort of crime? Fresher roles can start from as low as 4- 6k AED per month, because freshers aren’t employed as associates. Salaries are discretionary and go up to 8-9k at the top end for freshers. I'm a law aspirant(haven't started college yet),and I got a two digit rank in CLAT 2025,yet I already feel hopeless.

Law firm jobs offer good salary,but they ruin your life(no work life balance) and in litigation you earn very less initially and the other avenues seem not so good.

Mobility in law is almost non existent(you can't move abroad as easily as tech),so what even the point of studying law?(Other than a liking for law and passion)

So I am in currently in class 12th with commerce and this year's CLAT as you all know was shit and nothing can be made of it other than experience atleast for me, so Should I also take class 12th again in humanities from NIOS and then give CUET with Humanities subjects as my core? And If I get a BA from Hindu college or any other DU college after doing all this would it be worth it as after BA I would also like to pursue 3year LLb(can I do it simultaneously with BA?). I want to try UPSC and JUDICIARY both as my future employment aspects. Please do share your valuable experiences and advices.

Not an answer to the question, but an interesting fact for those who like to know the culture of non-Indian law firms: a London Times report a while back said that some associates in the London Offices of American law firms would have a wedding, just to get a little time off work, and not genuinely because they wanted to get married.

Whatever places we lawyers (including inhouse roles) are working right now most of the time we'll have experienced that our offices just on the name of learning they makes us do such works which purely set for clerk/peon grade. This doesn't mean that if you'r salary is in lakh or good an offices can take whatever work they want. We are law grads who spent 5 yr or 3yr not for doing clerk level work unless we especially consented for that. Isn't high time that we should raise voice against such unethical work or slavery work practices? These issues needed to be addressed to BCI and they should formulate strict guidlines with regard to the kinds of work should not be done by or taken from law grads otherwise the time is not far when law offices will start taking works like cleaning, cooking etc.

I think we have to make an effort to look at things differently. Thus may happen when you engage with people who are fighting for rights on ground. Their hope is contagious and so is their courage. I think our hopelessness also stems from just the systematic alienation and the rigors of being in a profession that puts so much pressure to become wealthy. You can try minimizing your social media interaction but maybe also try talking to people who can help you engage more meaningfully. You can also read books- that may make you feel less lonely and depressed.
