So two years back, the college only offered placements in EY and some insurance firm. Rest everyone had to try and get on their own. No law firm came and no one got placed in a law firm through college. I think the same happened last year also. The firm does have decent alumni who may help.

I got married at 27, and was the first one to do so in my circle and so was the case for my wife and her friends. We have thought about this a lot of time, if we did get married very early. But from my perspective, I did find the love of my life and was sure that wanted to spend the rest of the life (however it turned out to be) with her! Wasn't letting that chance slip away for anything.

Did it affect my career progression? Hell yes! My partner has been my biggest motivation pushing me to excel and providing me the much needed emotional support. If not for her, I wouldn't be half the lawyer and entirely the person I am today!

All I'm saying is, you'll grow irrespective if you're ambitious enough! But to have the love of your life by your side and grow together through life is a beautiful feeling.

Hence, if you're sure and you guys have thought this through, there is never a wrong time to do the right thing! Best of luck:)

I am planning to write a paper whose topic surrounds the area of investment arbitration and investor state arbitration. Since in my law school I haven't done anything related to it yet (I am aware of the indian arbitration law though), please guide me on which basic sources I should refer in order to get some fundamental grasp of the subject overall, which would help me to then go deep in to the specific research that I need to do for the paper.

Help me suggest some sources like books (not commentaries)/articles/notes that can give me a good picture of Investment Arbitration 101.

Im working in-house too, making 45k/month (non-nlu grad in T3 city). I quit my law firm within 9 months, I knew about the hours going into it so that wasnt a bother but honestly I couldn't take the toxic working conditions of favoritism, work hogging and marking whole teams in disparaging emails which should otherwise be one on one. Although it does seem like I am missing out on the law aspect of things. How many years of experience do you have btw?

Usually our gut feeling is right so go with your gut feeling. The place must be toxic for you to feel like quitting. You can quit and take a break to figure out your options. One way could be to try other firms, it could be that you like other places and people there are better. After quitting it’s hard to figure out but just keep going and be tough.

I am so sick of grown up men bitching, moaning, complaining and running away from life. You are no longer in college that you can live off others'. Grow a pair, suck it up, save enough to be financially independent and then do whatever you want. The world doesn't owe you anything.

You agree they are important. It is far better to be well-funded, on a growth path, part of the national narrative and mission, and have the government's attention than to be sidelined, orphaned, and forgotten. All NLUs are also desperate to be politically important, but that only remains a pipedream. No one wants to touch state NLUs even with a 20-foot-long barge pole. I can understand your frustration.

- Studying at NLSIU, with a well-spoken Rhodes scholar VC and faculty educated abroad. As opposed to other NLUs.

- Wearing well-tailored suits and Rolex watches while at work.

Oh my god dude, I don't understand why you are going on about "treating a nation as political property". The name of a country and the country itself are entirely different things. Is there any legal provision which prevents a coalition from having the name of the country as the acronym of its name? Please point it out if it exists. If it does not exist, then please petition your local MP to introduce a Bill in Parliament instead of needlessly raising the blood pressure of people on Legally India.

I find most articles to be banal renditions of JNU socialist talking points: anti-free market, anti-BJP, pro-Left, obsession with caste etc. I also find them to prioritise rhetoric over rigour, with poor footnoting and a complete disregard of contrary opinions. An echo chamber of mediocrity!

It’s a slum, plain and simple. What you should do is look for a good PG. Saltlake is home to many retired IAS/IPS officers and judges who have houses with empty bedrooms, as their children live abroad. Try to get a PG in such places. Otherwise there are many apartments not so far from NUJS.

Unfortunately, and sorry about this, I would disagree.

My two cents on the query:

Be honest with your time sheet - especially when starting out - perhaps to the nearest half an hour. There is no point in stat-padding, unless you have a monetary incentive to stat pad (i.e., your partners have zero say in your bonus and your bonus is based on cash collection - even there I would advise against statpadding), and if you do statpad, you’re more likely get hauled up by your partner.

It is natural - when you’re starting out - that you will have take more hours to complete a task. Don’t be afraid to put in that time. Perhaps the best thing is also to gauge how your team deals with time sheet entries (for example, in my first year at my old firm and even at my current firm, we specifically avoided block entries as they tend to get rationalised more.) and you’ll figure these out in good time!

The goal is to be lean and efficient - not someone who is “fake” busy and complaining all the time about their lack of time. At some points, you’ll be able to fool some seniors, but there will be others who you won’t be able to hoodwink.

If you’re efficient, often the reward of your efficiency is being rewarded with more and perhaps higher quality work (trust from your seniors) by which point you will automatically hit the numbers above in the comment.
