Hello guys

I have an internship at a T1 in Delhi coming up. During the time for application although I selected my preferred area, I haven't recieved any confirmation of a team by HR yet.

I wanted to ask can I call the HR and to request to assign a particular Partner/team i want to work with or is that out of the norm?? I also have met the PA of the said team in the past so might help a bit more during the internship.

I totally understand your point. I do understand that I'm inexperienced and ill informed. Maybe I'll curse my past self 15 years later.

But only reflecting upon my current interests, I'd say that I am interested in this field of law. I like reading up about these stuff in my free time.Even during my CLAT prep,business laws principles in the legal Reasoning sections were what had my utmost attention News such as IPOs, Acquisitions, etc excites me and I also read up business case studies in my free time. I thought, I'd like to be on the centre of these business decisions and would like to know how businesses work from inside. Ofcourse,you all are much more experienced and know better than me.

I know this is a much more niched forum and I wouldn't have come here if I didn't require some serious guidance.

6 months is not too soon. But have something lined up which you are sure about. Don’t have a knee jerk reaction to it. So that there is no looking back.

Speak to people in the industry/ place of future work you are targeting - see what they say about the work culture.

Legal industry - thinking is a bit rigid, so most places have a “work hard for 12 hours” mentality.

I am a Law School alumnus. Even 3-4 years ago, I would have laughed at the choice - it would be clear Law School. Now with some 300+ students per batch, 3-year LLBs, MPPs and whatever new BA circus Sudhir has got going, I'm not sure. Maybe a normal experience at NALSAR will give you more time to explore and enjoy your study of the law. NLS used to provide that space to grow and learn, certainly seems unlikely now.

Got under 300 and with ews I think I will be able to secure nlsiu so should I go for it and just to mention I am already doing first year in one of the lower tier nlus as I have took 2 drop earlier and will hit 21 by the time I join nlsiu. So how much of a deal being 21 is at that college.

How are the courses completely different? The law subjects are the same, so are the faculty! Are you claiming that your Sociology, History and Political Science classes help you get placed? As for joint placement process, if you are from the BA cohort, then what are you afraid of? You had ranked way ahead than the BSc kids in CLAT, why didn't you make the most out of law school and develop a better CV than any of them after that?

Look at the financial doom confronting the NLUs. NLS offers a regular BA degree to shore up revenues, NLIU reduces intake because it does not have the funds to build new infrastructure, MNLUN is unable to pay salaries to its faculty, and the consortium is desperate enough to take in a private university into its fold.......where is this going?

Been there done that. Please don’t make this change unless you are very very sure. I regretted my decision and went back to in house practice. The hours, micro management, fake deadlines, politics will ruin your mental peace and health. Better to accelerate slowly in life if you have peace in mind. You want to have law firm environment then join some IPO bound company, you will have to work hard there as well. Don’t compare salaries, in house will never offer as much as law firm but law firm can never provide you the security and peace that company can. However, each to its own. Talk to more people in the field, try taking different narrative.

Who authorised you to rank NLUs? if you are from any of those colleges, you college must have taught you to claim something with valid grounds. I don't consider some cheap authority who is misguiding people. We had given grounds that we have better infra and faculty. Don't consider only placements as a benchmark to rank universitues. Education matters in the long run. Many universities don't spoon-feed placements but make their students enough capable to secure job without using any cheap means

It will be fun to see regular arts students (we all know how they are) on campus. The administration will favor and promote the BA and 3-year LLB students as they have to show that their decisions are right. The 310 BA-LLB students will be orphaned, forgotten, sidelined, and merely a source of revenue.

I don't know when anyone has generalised NLUs. No sane person would understand this discussion as generalisation of nlu. Secondly, if one studying in any college is so qualified and extraordinary, then there was no need to take any such means to uplift their status through their alumini. Your college is perpetuating this culture, which reflects that it needs push. Push would anyway not required if your college inherits all the qualities you mentioned above.
