Bhai mere i practice here at Allahabad HC, recently they invited applications for designation as senior advocates. Most of the big time lawyers from both Allahabad and Lucknow bench applied for designations. Mind you a lot of the names in this list are that good that they already have a larger practice than existing senior advocates. And the highest earner at lucknow is a leading criminal lawyer with around 2.4crore yearly income. Other good seniors were in 1 crore range. I assume a lot of them are taking a hell lot of cash too still they won't be hiding more than 1 cr income. So it's absurd to say top 10 percent makes 10 crores. Only in a select rich HCs likes like Delhi, Bombay, Punjab, Karnataka, Gujarat and nonetheless at SC where top lawyers earn crores and I doubt even in those courts top 10% lawyers earn 10 crore a year.

I can only laugh at your regarded face because you clearly can’t comprehend - the post says that boutiques are a good option after T1s. Which is a fact. Heard of P&A, Parekh & Co., etc? Many boutiques won’t pay well upon joining. But in senior roles, they are good for those who want to do quality work sans the overt toxicity at T1s. Not only are boutiques better, but some (not many) are quite capable of paying good. Plus, if you think the T1 dispute teams do good work, you’ve clearly not worked at a T1 disputes team or know how good disputes teams can be. The bulk of the teams are doing mind numbing work regurgitating below-par drafts. Many arb teams are just paper pushers and those that do do their own practice don’t have the time and bandwidth to devote themselves qualitatively to matters. Rishab Gupta was great. Anuj Berry is good. But I can’t think of many others in T1 firms who work qualitatively.

The big companies go to them because of the name. Because they need to justify to the shareholders and BoD in case shit goes south and saying that we have a big firm on the matter lends credibility. But anything the T1s are able to offer, the boutiques will provide better.

I do agree with the payment part. Boutiques in dispute resolution cannot pay anything close to T1 which is north of lakh at least.

But in terms of work, boutiques often have a more specialised team and know much more about the court they're knocking doors of. Specifically in white collar crimes-trials etc T1 can't catch up to the locals.

In arb, T1s tend to do better I think but work and performance is very subjective and depends so much team-to-team.

You can research in anything and everything. Doesn't even have to be law. You can even do a inter-multi-trans disciplinary research in any field. However, the problem that will arise is your lack of background knowledge.

Imagine a scenario, Student A does his specialisation in environmental law in LLB and LLM, he has sufficient background knowledgeable for the last 5/6+ years. Student B does his specialisation in international law in LLB, then LLM in IPR and then wants to do a PhD in environment law. Now when the interview happens, because no matter what anyone says interviews are the last deal breakers, the board asks the students something outside of their research proposal based on basic concept related to environmental law. Who do you think will be able to tackle these unexpected bouncers ??

You are free to pursue research according to your interest. But remember the depth you need to go in for the interview will be more than the level of LLB-LLM. The board doesn't expect you to be an expert on the topic, but the basics need to be clear. If you can do that in 2-3 months, good for you. Other than passion, choose that field of study that you want to pursue even after PhD. Phd is a good opportunity to lay the foundation for what you want to pursue in academia and research for the next decade or lifetime. All the best.

Hi, I wanted to know more about the type of questions typically asked during an internship interview at Khaitan's Mumbai office. Will the interview be conducted by HR, a partner, or a PA? Hey, I have an upcoming internship at KCO Noida in December and it will be virtual. I am in my fourth year and hence I wanted to understand the prospects of a PPO. I belong to a NLU and my grades are average but I have a well-rounded CV. My concern is that as it is a virtual internship - would I even have a fair shot to be considered for a PPO considering I deliver good work? Or will this just be a T-1 experience that will boost my CV? I just want to understand what I should expect from this internship. Any input will be appreciated. Thank you!

NLUs are state universities as you mentioned, hence it is inevitable that every state will eventually want one of their own. There's nothing wrong with that either as there are many students interested in studying law. So long as the state takes care of the NLU properly. One state having more than one NLU does not make any sense either, like Maharashtra, UP or MP.

Got few back papers in initial years of college, cleared it up soon after. However, it would show on my marksheet. I'm planning to work outside India, after completing some work experience in india for a few years.

The backs might be a problem while fi ding jobs in india, however after I think it would be fine .
