Honestly, there isn't a need for a second chair. Not sure why she even accepted because looking at matter, there's no way two persons can argue for the single brief. There's largely factual submissions going on, which are interconnected and not law. Even in question of law, there's nothing for second chair. The only way two (or more) advocates can argue a matter is if everyone is dealing with different facets of the case, like say article 370 etc. Nothing here.

It's a Tier 2 firm with an amazing work culture and a commendable learning curve. The only downside is that the pay at A0 level is a bit below par (10LPA) but once you move up the ladder the pay will match with the likes of T1 firms. Also coming to practice areas they have a good Corp M&A, TMT and Disputes practice along with niche fields such as aviation. Hope this helps!

Only sane reply. Students divided amongst themselves and admin enjoying the division. SBCs should be all inclusive. Moreover they're there only for a year, treat them as guests, their presence won't impact the long term situation, but their absence will hurt the climate immediately.

I suppose the fundamental problem with that proposal is that it’s not democratic- graduate students like undergraduates are diverse and need elections to fairly decide who would represent their interests.

And a secondary problem might be that you’re offering them visibility while not offering them a voice.Interests of graduate students are different from those of undergraduates not just because they spend less time at the university but because they play a different role in it and are in university for a different purpose at a different point in their lives.

Undergraduates maybe hyperfocused on corporate recruitments or on extracurriculars like moots and debates. Graduate students might be more concerned about teaching assistant pay and funding for doctoral scholars and availability of resources that enable their research work and adequate supervision. They might need assistance with placement in the academic job market which is entirely different from what undergraduates are focused on.

Even on a more mundane level- undergrads might be reasonably happy living in hostels as they are, but graduate students who are married might want housing options that allows them to live with their spouse and or child while also ensuring they don’t have to travel all the way to the city. Undergraduates might be happy with the nutrition provided by the mess, but graduate students might want kitchen access either communal or in their living quarters so they can prepare meals more suitable for adult metabolism.

Why can’t grad students form their own grad student union and negotiate with the administration independently of whatever the undergraduates do ? This is essentially what happens in universities abroad- why the need to force them to play out minimised roles in your SBC?

Surely your SBC will not lose any legitimacy or power if the graduate students elect their own student leaders and negotiate difficult problems with the administration on their own terms ? No one could assert that an SBC made up entirely of undergraduates does anything to help grad students- the only reason the SBC has legitimacy is because it seeks to help undergrads and represents them!

This isn’t a zero sum game. This isn’t about who is top dog on campus or who the campus really belongs to - the campus doesn’t really belong to any one kind of person. It doesn’t belong to undergrads or grad students or professors or the VC or staff- it’s a state institution.

This is about whether students are able to get a fair shake from the administration and organise as they wish. I really don’t see why this is even a conflict let alone a civil war.

I don’t see any reason why graduate students should not form their own collective bargaining organisation. Why they even want to be on the llb SBC is a mystery to me- maybe they lack imagination.

It’s highly unfortunate to see the LinkedIn post by the firm that Mr Advait Luthra is no more. This is truly tragic and time of immense grief for the firm. My prayers are with the entire Luthra family.

However, I am bumping this thread to now also discuss the potential succession structure at the firm.

I would request all those who wish to discuss this to do so in a manner that is respectful and not vile like most LI threads.

Because the majority of LI readers are Gen Z and we are being unfairly vilified. Most of us began using Facebook and Twitter since we were in the age group of 6 to 10 years, and TikTok in our adolescence. We turned out absolutely fine as adults. So we don't want boomers/Gen X/Gen Y to impose restrictions on Gen Alpha/Beta and force Gen Alpha/Beta back into the 20th century.

In the 20th century, knowledge was only printed in books and people wrote physical letters on paper, instead of sending texts. So the amount of knowledge available was low and spread slowly, while communication was poor. Hence, people grew up ignorant and full or prejudice. Social media changed that and made the world more tolerant. Now boomers/Gen X/Gen Y want to make Gen Alpha/Beta like their ignorant, bigoted selves. Just pathetic.

I’m really stressing about whether I’ll make Senior Associate. At lala shops, it takes four years for associates to level up, but if you’re a lateral hire from a smaller firm, you get an extra year to add “Senior” to your title. I have seen some colleagues at my lala shop miss out on promotions because of fierce competition, which means even more competition for me. I missed out this year since I’m a lateral and just became A3. Is this kind of thing common elsewhere?

It also seems like lala shops enjoy making promotion season a nail-biting experience. I’m in corporate law mostly for the financial perks, not because I’m super excited about transaction documents or due-diligence reports. A lot of people from my batch are already Senior Associates, so I’m definitely overthinking it. If I don’t get promoted, what’s the best way to handle it?
