Vaish Associates Mumbai office is hammering out a health insurance JV between its close client Religare Enterprises and global insurance company Swiss Re.
The Vaish team is being led by partner Bomi Daruwala, assisted by associates Amitjivan Joshi and Arti Narsana.
Swiss Re is understood to be represented by its global in-house team but is due to pick its domestic Indian legal representation soon.
The joint venture between Religare and Swiss Re is hoped to be operational by 2010, reported the Indian daily Business Standard today.
Vaish has a long relationship with Religare, due to its ties to drug manufacturer Ranbaxy Laboratories' former chief Malvinder Mohan Singh.
While Singh stepped down as Ranbaxy's chairman, chief executive and managing director late last month, he still retains a position as non-executive director and promoter of Religare.
Vaish also steered Ranbaxy through its takeover by Japanese pharmaceutical company Daichii Sankyo and the law firm is understood to continue advising the company.
On that transaction Daichii was advised by Jones Day and its associate firm P&A Law Offices.
Vaish declined to comment.
