Mumbai-based Credit Suisse director and India head of legal, Sapna Bhawnani, is set to join KKR in the new year as its second in-house lawyer in India.
She is to look after legal and compliance at the giant international private equity fund, and is expected to join by March 2020.
Her joining KKR follows Jigar Shah joining KKR as its India legal head in early 2018 from JP Morgan, where he was general counsel (GC).
Shah was the first lawyer to join the fund in India.
Shah and Bhawnani had previously also worked together at Deutsche Bank, where Bhawnani had worked between 2010 and 2016 as vice president legal, and Shah from 2009 until 2015 as India legal head.
Credit Suisse is understood to have a legal team of four lawyers, with Bhawnani.

In these MNCs, no senior hiring is done without a good reason and proper planning. Allocation of cost to the Legal & Compliance Dept. to hire an expensive resource would have been thought through quite meticulously.
Brilliant Hire ! Now KKR deal docs are going to be better and law firm engagements will be restricted as everything will be handled inhouse. Big Inhouse shoud bulk up their own teams and minimise reliance on the law firms.
Please see DRHP of ICICI Lombard General Insurance. Head Legal was paid more than 3 crores in 2017 + ESOPs of 7 crores (at current share price of ICICI bank)
