Exclusive: US-headquartered venture capital firm Bessemer Venture Partners (BVP) has created an in-house legal department in India with the hire of Amarchand Mangaldas principal associate Karan Pahwa.
BVP’s US-based general counsel Scott Ring told Legally India that Pahwa joined the firm as its first India-based counsel.
“In this role Karan will advise on BVP’s India related transactions and assist BVP's portfolio companies in India with their legal needs,” he said. “India's fast-growing and dynamic economy is a key area of focus for BVP and we look forward to utilising Karan's Indian legal expertise as we continue our investment activities in the country.”
Pahwa who graduated from NUJS Kolkata in 2005 had started his career at Amarchand and began at BVP this month.
He was unavailable for comment when contacted.
BVP manages more than $2bn of venture capital in over 130 companies, according to its website.

That is incorrect, good partners have independence. However, partners having no independence may be true in younger firms which claim to have started distributing equity only recently!
Obviously you have no idea how India's "older" Firm works
