Turf T20 Cup for Law firms
Turf T20 Cup for Law firms

Titus & Co, Luthra & Luthra, Kochhar & Co, K&S Partners and Amarchand Mangaldas were the winning teams of the intra-pool matches of the fifth weekend of the Delhi Twenth20 tournament last weekend under foggy conditions.

A total of five matches were played on Saturday and Sunday at the TURF Twenty20 cricket tournament for the Society of Indian Law Firms (SILF) Cup, with excitement galore half-way through to the finals.

Titus faced S&R Associates in pool A, pool B saw Saikrishna play Amarchand and pool C Anand & Anand against Kochhar. In pool D two matches took place, with one between Luthra and Dua Associates and the other seeing DSK and K&S Partners face off.

The games took place at different venues under foggy conditions due the onset of winters in Delhi.

A combined display of strong bowling and batting order led to defending champion Titus’s 157 runs and a bonus point victory over opponents S&R Associates which succumbed to an all-out defeat in just 14.2 overs for 49 runs total.

Titus batsman Shamik Narain contributed 96 runs to the team’s total of 206 runs and was declared man of the match with a grand total of 11 fours. Titus bowler Sunil Kumar meanwhile gave S&R a meagre three runs for thre overs bowled, while striking down three wickets.

Another convincing victory was achieved by Luthra & Luthra against Dua Associates in pool D. After Titus’s big total of 206, Luthra scored the second-highest total of this weekend after two of its batsmen Manish Gupta and Hitesh Tara made 52 and 58 runs respectively. The team notched up 188 runs target for Dua needing only four batters over 20 overs.

Dua failed to chase and were all out in 14.1 overs with only 99 runs, gifting Luthra a bonus point too.

Luthra star bowler-cum-batsman Gupta was awarded man of the match for taking down five of Dua’s wickets in only 1.1 overs and running a 52 and six 4s before retiring due to injury.

In the other pool D match, K&S Partners defeated DSK Legal by two wickets. K&S successfully chased a target of 116 runs after losing out 8 wickets for a total of 117 runs in 18.1 overs. K&S bowler Rama Srinivasan was declared man of the match for knocking down 5 wickets of the opposing team in four overs.

A set of two matches between Saikrishna and Amarchand in Pool B and Anand & Anand and Kochhar & Co in Pool C scheduled to be played in the earlier weeks finally took place this weekend with a windfall of points for both Amarchand and Kochhar for their victories.

Saikrishna after winning the toss made an easy total of 139 runs for Amarchand in 20 overs for a loss of six wickets. Team Amarchand won by 6 wickets without gaining a bonus point, batsman Prashant Mehta who was not out at 64 runs was the man of the match as a score of 140 was won in 18.3 overs with 3 wickets down.

Finally, in this week’s Pool C match, Kochhar’s strategy to field first worked in their favour against team Anand & Anand. At the end of 20th over, team Anand set a paltry 105 runs target after losing out 9 wickets. In reply, Kochhar scored 109 runs in 17.1 overs for 4 wickets.

Kochhar all rounder Sultan Ansari picked up man of the match award.

In the points table Titus and Luthra now stand head and shoulders above the competition in pools A and D respectively with 15 points each after three games played. Amarchand leads pool B with 9 points and two wins in two matches, while Kochhar & Co is in the lead of pool C with the same statistics. Pool D, where all games have now played three matches, saw Dua slot into the number two slot behind Luthra with 9 points.

Great performance Manish...Keep it up...... The mention of "before retiring due to injury" surely reminds of the latest saying in the law firm cricket fraternity these days - Manish bhai is getting better by the age!!!!!!!!!

#9: This issue has already been over!! Complaint filed and rejected..nothing can be done.....now everything is upon self-consciousness, self-respect and some moral and professional ehtics and standards, which I am sure this team and firm completely lacks.....by doing all this, they are spoiling whatever little good name their firm has.... they are like rakhi sawant.....want to be in limelight at any cost....vaise bhi mere bhai, keechad mein pathar fekne se sirf keechad hi milega......

Unfortunately there are only two firms which have started this hate campaign against Titus!Last year at SILF when Kochhar was beaten badly they made complaints. Mr. Bhasin intervened and order was restored. This year AZB (after a dismal performance and uncouth behaviour of one of their associates) have started the hate campaign.

It has been repeatedly said that when Titus lost the 1st two matches at Turf T20 to Luthra and Bhasin no team complained. However, when they started winning and finally won the Turf Cup Kochhar & Co. had a problem. Kochhar's Bobby Khan is by no means a lawyer!!!He is not employed with Kochhar & Co. and works for some other entity of Mr. Kochhar. How does he play the tournament??? Talking of outside players, there are a lot of other teams too who practice the policy why so much hue and cry bout Titus...beacuse they win!!!!What a shame![...] is another team this year with "borrow" players. Just beacuse they dont win they are not in news.Sai Krishna is another team which has been continuing the practice since the first Turf Cup. Dua Associates certainly has player(s) who are not employed in the Law Firm.

As for Saurabh Anand he is the Business Development Officer of Titus...and he can be seen with Mr. Titus at many events and meetings.

Boys Grow Up...Play Cricket, Have Fun and Dont Crib. Many teams may end up with their foot in mouth!

Let's get real -- What was held in the "BCCI - Zee Telefilms Case"? Or may be, in Bhatia International?

It's a pity to see lawyers fight over LAW FIRMS that have "bought" them for a few lakhs. Go guys, read some stuff. May help you more than this.

#18 kindly read the entire stream before commenting....no need to shield any particular guy....for your convenience i quote comment no. 10:

"now everything is upon self-consciousness, self-respect and some moral and professional ehtics and standards, which I am sure this team and firm completely lacks.....by doing all this, they are spoiling whatever little good name their firm has.... they are like rakhi sawant"

This my friend has been written about a reputed law firm!Rather than getting astonished can u please define cheap comments?????Can't u open ur eyes and ur mind to "see the language and the reference to one" law firm!!!!!If you cant take comments against a particular individual...a law firm employing several individuals WILL DEFINITELY NOT.It is indeed sad that a cheapskate makes such comments and you jump to defend him!Decorum and abstinence is something ur friend should learn.

@11 - if thats true of Manish being an ex-Titus - in that case Titus should feel honored that Manish has graced the firm by working with them.

#27: Hi, this is Manish Gupta. I completely disagree with the comment by you and you have no right to write like anything regarding or against me or my firm or ex-firm using my name. Rather, I am obliged from the bottom of heart that Titus & Co. gave me an invaluable opportunity to work with them......and cricket and professional life are different. .....if you know me, you may contact me directly for any clarification....everyone in Titus in like a good friend and elder/younger brother....

Luthra has been able to break the jinx yesterday.....beaten Saikrishna in a very close match..... superb match between two strong teams whereby Luthra won it due to a complete team performance and disciplined bowling.....could not let Sai to chase the modest total of 144 despite being able to take only 2 wkts for most of the match and dropping few catches..... congratulations to both the teams....!!!
@Dua: there was no fog this time and Luthra has beaten a good side in the day-night match.....now no excuses please......ha ha ha ha!!!!!
