I have very less idea of about what practical daily work is done in different corp jobs. I tried searching online, and even contacted some seniors, still my knowledge is practically very limited. (Most said it was just 1. research writing project/papers like in law school 2. Compiling some lists. 3. Due diligence ( idk what it practically means)
Before I apply to a particular team for internship, i wish to understand which one might best suit me.
TLDR: Can someone please explain the work done by different jobs in different teams ?/ or point me to some sources.
PS: please forgive my naivety
As a private university, they should not be allowed to use the term "India International" as that leads aspirants to think that it is a public university. But then, NLUs also should not be using "National" in their names given that they are all state universities. The use of "national" falsely leads aspirants to believe that NLUs are national universities (when they are not).
Here's the press release by the Ministry of Law and Justice clearly stating that all NLUs are state universities. https://pib.gov.in/PressReleaseIframePage.aspx?PRID=1910438
Is it time to file a PIL to bar NLUs from using "national"?
Addressing Critical Concerns Regarding NALSAR's Administration

Prof. Rao,
We trust this email conveys the gravity of our concerns. Your administration has, regrettably, earned a reputation
for silence, lack of accountability, and inaction. We have refrained from writing this for a long time, hoping for
positive changes or decisions from your end. However, we now write with utter dismay over the sheer lack of
prudence from your side.
To the Vice-Chancellor and the administration at the helm: You have successfully steered the college towards
obscurity. We have had esteemed vice-chancellors, registrars, and some of the brightest scholars in the country,
building and maintaining the 'NALSAR' brand. Thank you for demonstrating that with an administration as
thoughtless as yours, even the NALSAR brand cannot retain, let alone attract, quality.
Currently, we have only four active professors. Among them, Prof. Rao and the Registrar do not teach a single
mandatory course. One is Prof. Balakista Reddy, who is on lien, leaving only Prof. Vasanthi actively teaching. We
have fewer than five associate professors who are overdue for promotions and are overworked. The recruitment
process conducted last year was deficient, as professors essential for mandatory courses were not recruited, and
student feedback was not considered.
Despite promises of faculty recruitment, you have failed seismically at retaining faculty and institute builders.
NALSAR has lost more than ten professors, including renowned ones, due to your aimless administration
.Whenever the topic of recruitment arises, you proudly declare the recruitment of two experienced Telugu
professors who served as vice-chancellors at other NLUs. They seem to treat NALSAR as their retirement home,
teaching fewer than ten hours per semester.
Regarding faculty allocation, why are professors specializing in criminal justice and international law teaching
family law? Professors specializing in constitutional law are teaching labor law, and those specializing in taxation
and international trade law are teaching evidence, contracts, and property law. Professors specializing in civil
procedure and legal methods are not allotted their subjects.
Why was Professor Ashwini not assigned to teach CPC? Both teachers who instructed the DPC Clinic have been
reassigned to teach CPC. Hasn't Professor Kannan expressed his displeasure at having to teach two mandatory
courses in one semester at his age? We do not have any details regarding those giving demo classes for
Constitutional Law tomorrow. Meanwhile, other national law schools have well-known professors who have been
poached from our college. Is there any rationale behind these allocations? Fourth and third years have been allotted
a single professor to teach subjects like ethics, evidence and constitutional law for batches exceeding 150 students.
Your tenure, now nearing its two-year mark, has little to show except for the valiant attempts to cover up public
humiliations such as workers' exploitation, the girls' protest incident, and the faculty gate. Your actions and
inactions have consistently exacerbated each situation. During the latter incident, you failed to meet with Prof.
Manohar, necessitating the proctorial board to take suo motu action. This clearly illustrates your inability to
effectively address either student concerns or faculty issues. Your regime is marked by the mistreatment of faculty,
students, and the workers who sustain this institution. Faculty are denied basic respect, agency, recognition, and
promotions, while student considerations, even pertinent ones, are swiftly dismissed. Workers and non-teaching
staff are denied basic human dignity. On how many accounts does this denote failure? Your actions and inactions
have only worsened each situation.
The Registrar excels in whataboutery, causing nothing but problems for the student body. Everything is blamed on
the student body. The Student Bar Council must beg for any action or permission, often rejected or denied without
rationale, except spite. Instead, we are subjected to sermons on student conduct and lack of achievements. Is the
Registrar so occupied with her sermons that she cannot teach a single mandatory course? How can anyone thrive in
an environment with zero institutional support? Every reimbursement is blocked, and even reasonable
expenditures to address student concerns, such as the monkey problem, are deflected. Student intake has increased, random courses like the IBL program are started without gauging campus space
organization, yet scholarship amounts steadily decrease every academic year. Where is this money being funneled
if we lack funds for scholarships? Is it being misappropriated or funding the IPR conference that happens every
week? The academic regulations stipulate an annual fee increase of โน5,000, yet it was increased by โน10,000 this year.
On what basis? The services remain haphazard and subpar.
Numerous safety concerns have surfaced, with no action from you. There are also several other opaque and
imprudent decisions you have made. Promises of hostel construction and a new campus are constantly thrown
around, but we see no progress. You have failed to procure land and refuse to address the space crunch our college
suffers from. You have been abysmal in securing anything from both the past and current governments. Your
greatest achievement is securing a meager โน75 lakhs to open a research center, triumphantly publicized. How
does this fare against NLSIU, where Sudhir secured โน45 crores and โน12 crores from JSW Group and Luthra for
renaming two of their academic blocks?
We eagerly await your response (if any) to these pressing issues, which we doubt you will address. Your collective
indifference and apathy have only simmered discontent among us. If there is no change in your approach or if we
do not receive satisfactory responses to these issues, we will not hesitate to stage a protest when the first-year
admits and their parents, especially your favoritesโthe parents of foreign nationalsโvisit the campus on joining
day.
No Regards.
In terms of criminal liability, it could be difficult because if you want to invoke fraud, you have to prove that I lost some kind of money or material possessions. Asking for my vote in exchange of this doesnโt count. Also, liability for which ch individual?
Interested to know peopleโs thoughts on this.
Should i just mail their HR just in case or wait and see what happens?
Let me know if there are firms that are still hiring.
Gen Corp/M&A is the preference
Source of my last comment, if this is the reason it was not published.
What I wish to learn is how to be such rainmakers? Maybe not of this scale, but what are the essentials you keep in mind when you reach out to a potential client?
MHA of course has cadre control of IPS and therefore operational influence at CBI and IB. It also controls NIA.
MCA should matter as well since it has SFIO under it although its prowess is anybody's guess.
Why in all these years no govt (irrespective of political colour) has ever brought in a specific legislation for CBI, IB and RAW. Maybe the swirly alphabet soup of agencies is actually favourable to all.
Do you all agree that there should be minnimum age criteria or qualifications to use LI ?
get a life. let nluj students be handled by nluj students
nluj touchwood, has one of the best senior - junior cultures. they are one of the best set of people.
being from batch of 28, i have seen my friends and i and others bond so well with seniors.
they are their for everystep - to guide you with how to tackle academics, moots, from helping you through panic attacks to making you feel like home, i have seen some of the seniors do their absoulte best. internship guidance, college guidance. i, let alone a lot of people would have not survived my first year without these seniors.
let me tell you, half the friend circles changed, notions changed, people i thought i would never vibe with are my best friends now, and people i totally vibed with are worlds apart.
Give it a try, nothing wrong in asking it. Make sure you are calling him/her during no-office hours. At least he will remember you for your courage and confidence.
Don't over think, and don't go by the rules of society / corporates.
My two cents:
1. Trilegal has the best techlaw practice in India. Write to their HR and ask them if they have ever hired Tech Law LLMs from anywhere. I think the answer will be no.
2. Nevertheless, do the LLM from the best place you can and while doing the LLM, network like crazy. You seem to have good language skills. Publish articles. Go wild on LinkedIn. You Will get a job.
Stay away from the compliance team(global), high rate of attrtion and the work is very unorganised leading to a toxic work culture. The Team is really understaffed due to which theres lot of pending work. Just stay away from the compliance team(global at all costs), speaking from experience.
The rest of the teams are great to work with.
Which other firms are decent to work at?
What I personally think is that paper was super easy which lead to inflation of marks.
Recently joined a tier 1.
Wanted to ask, about the retirement and savings aspect.
How much should I save
After profusely apologizing for your error, try to make sure that such a mistake is not repeated by analyzing what could have been done better from your end, and try to not repeat it. Easiest way to do this is to make a checklist of anything and everything that went wrong so that you can always come back to it and double check any draft being sent ahead, and confirm if such a mistake has been repeated or not.
I am a little busy to type a more detailed explanation, but I think this should suffice.
Tae care, and do not let this one instance bog you down :)
1. Where to they live? Super-luxury bungalows and flats in Bandra? DLF Camelias in Gurgaon?
2. What cars do they own? Just Mercs and Audis, or Lambos and Ferraris?
3. Where do they go for vacations? The Bahamas? Monte Carlo?
4. What clothes to they wear? Like suits exclusive tailored in London and NY? 2 crore Patek watches like Ambani Junior?
5. Where do they throw parties? Luxury hotls? Farmhouses?
6. Where do they hang out with friends generally? Golf clubs? Luxury hotels?
7. Who are their friends and who do they hang out with? Anand Mahindra? Nandan Nilekani? Shashi Tharoor? Mahua Moitra? Shah Rukh Khan?
I know I'll never lead such a life, but it's good to daydream!
1. JGLS (received a call-letter)
2. SLS - Pune (received a call-letter)
3. HNLU Raipur - (applied for their vacant seats) [I have secured a low 2000s rank in my CLAT-PG and ]
Here's what I specifically am looking for from you people -
1. I have spent way too many hours on LI trying to get a sense of the above unis and there's a lot of information but not specifically for LLM.
2. I want to understand the extent and actual level of placements (for LLM) offered by the above unis.
3. I want to assure you that I understand that some of you might have a general broad opinion that none of these are particularly good, or, that JGLS is all marketing heavy, or, SLS has some other specific problem. After a few good hours going through all the threads and discussions about these unis here on LI, I understand the broad complaints and issues but that's not what I'm looking for.
I just want (read: requesting) a detailed, nuanced understanding of the placement scene for the LLM programmes irrespective of them potentially being minimal. If someone has information about even a couple of placements for LLM students from these unis, I'd love to know about it.
Or, at-least, what's the scope/stats for quality assessment-internships at these places.
4. If anyone's pursued an LLM in Tech/Cyber/IT/TMT Law from these unis or any other Indian law schools, I'd love to know your insights too. How was it overall? How were the placements? Where are you working at the moment and how are future prospects?
Thank You.
P.S - Please, for the love of god, kindly refrain from giving me options that aren't these three unis (or) to not do an LLM and intern/work instead etc
Few years of T1 Delhi firm work ex here.
For corp, itโs about managing transactions and clients across timezones. For litigation, your work starts in late afternoon/ evening once youโre back from courts. And then it occasionally gets derailed due to cause list in the evening.
However, itโs not consistent throughout. Some days are good, some days are bad, some days are worse.
Bottom line - its all worth it.
