We want LI to be one of the friendliest places on the internet, where lawyers and law students help each other with their career related queries and occasionally discuss other stuff that might affect their lives too. In other words:
1. Be kind, respectful and helpful to each other.
2. Be bona fide, truthful, genuine and curious.
3. Assume the best intention of others.
Therefore, in using the site, you must agree to do your best to uphold these community guidelines.
Note that what you find here is written and moderated by anonymous people on the internet.
Therefore everything you read here is very likely unverified, rumour, speculation and/or downright false.
In continuing to read anything here, you must therefore agree not to take anything you read here as factual and that you will exercise due caution, diligence and common sense before acting on any information you may come across here.
You also agree to report any inaccurate or malicious comments with the buttons. Moderators take action within 24 hours, as required and appropriate under law.
Our full terms and conditions apply too.
Do you solemnly agree to all of the above?
P.S. I come to LI to watch (and sometimes to trigger) mudslinging matches and ad-hominem. For those keyboard warriors who will inevitably write enchantingly nasty responses to this, just remember that I live and work in a country 5000 miles across the sea, am on holiday ATM and will occasionally open this thread with a nice amount of popcorn to see the fun unfold. Would you want to give me the satisfaction?
CFA offered by CFA Institute, USA, comprises three exams: Levels I, II, and III.
The date of CFA level I exam should not be more than 23 months before the month in you graduate, so at this stage you're not eligible to take CFA Level I exam. So, you may take the CFA Level I exam only once you're in 3rd year.
Similarly, the date of CFA level II exam should not be more than 11 months before your graduation. So, you may take CFA Level II exam (after clearing CFA level I) in your 4th year.
You may take CFA Level III exam only after you graduate.
Considering it takes a lot of time to prepare for all three exams including level I, you may buy Schweser Notes (https://www.schweser.com/cfa/level-1/study-materials/schweser-notes) and start studying now rather than wait for another year.
If you are really serious about a career in investment banking, think of 3 alternative plans.
Plan 'A' should kick in once you've cleared CFA Level II - apply for internships at investment banks and convert one of these internships to an offer.
Plan 'B' is to work for a couple of years in a 'law' profile, clear CFA Level III in the meanwhile and then pivot to an investment bank. Very few examples of people who have accomplished this: Udai Bajaj (NLSIU 2006) and a CFA who's working with Deutsche Bank, Singapore, as Director Loan Trading & Syndications, is one.
Plan 'C' is the same as Plan 'B' to the extent of working for a couple of years in a 'law profile'. Once you've done this, with or without clearing CFA Level III, prepare for CAT or GRE or GMAT and pursue MBA from a decent institute with a concentration in finance. Remember, many, if not most MBA 1st years serious about finance typically clear CFA Level I well before their summer internships. Even compared with such individuals, with a CFA Level II, you'd be better 'placed'.
All the best!

dell has good service centres but only during warranty period
it should fine for browsing, wording, and netflix
So go for any Dell/HP laptop with Ryzen 5/7. Don't go for Lenovo IdeaPad series, they are too fragile for normal wear tear.
Dell Inspiron and HP pavilion series are good options, they are not bulky either.
If not Macbook, please buy a Dell laptop with decent processor and ram. Windows 11 is notoriously heavy on memory and hence, buying a low spec Dell would affect your overall productivity. Also, use the keyboard before buying so that you can ensure that the tactile feedback suits you.
Say strict no to HP (overpriced), Lenovo (very bad build quality), Acer (poor overall performance), Asus (No good laptops in this range)
PS: The above brands have been evaluated on the basis of the product options they furnish within the 50k price bracket. There are expensive devices of these brands which are good, but then your budget constraint won't allow you to accomodate them.
I personally have been using a Macbook M1 since May 2021 without any issues. Have dropped it thrice and spilled coffee on it twice, yet it works like a charm.
Do they take interns and how much do they pay? And what does the laptop policy at khaitan look like (for interns)?

Be open to learning
- scrap pointless humanities subjects like sociology, history and pol science from NLUs. Replace with quant, stats and finance.
- similarly, scrap human rights law, gender and law, law and poverty etc. Replace more financial law subjects.
- replace woke, anti-capitalist profs educated at JNU with pragmatic, pro-capitalist profs educated at IIM and ISB.
That's how you'll get Wall Street to campus.
I have heard it’s possible to get a direct assessment internship there. If you could tell me how true that is, that would be helpful. And what are some things to keep in mind when interning with these teams to have a good impression and get a PPO apart from general advice? Anything specific to the firm or team?
Appreciate it!

1. Recognise your area of interest. Try to find any topic to research.
2. Apply for UGC NET and JRF. Try to get JRF.
3. Find a guide specialising in your area and try to find if they can take you.
4. Apply for a PhD and try to get admission. If you're unsatisfied with JRF pay, apply as Guest faculty to a few places if you can manage your time.
I guess that rules this guy out once and for all from the 2024 race? Nikki Haley v Biden I guess, with Biden probably pulling through?
Which of these sports are currently on offer at JGLS and how are the facilities? And the scene generally? Can any current student help me out? Thanks.
That's the best. Profile of 99% American lawyers have both BA/BS & JD from USA itself
