We want LI to be one of the friendliest places on the internet, where lawyers and law students help each other with their career related queries and occasionally discuss other stuff that might affect their lives too. In other words:
1. Be kind, respectful and helpful to each other.
2. Be bona fide, truthful, genuine and curious.
3. Assume the best intention of others.
Therefore, in using the site, you must agree to do your best to uphold these community guidelines.
Note that what you find here is written and moderated by anonymous people on the internet.
Therefore everything you read here is very likely unverified, rumour, speculation and/or downright false.
In continuing to read anything here, you must therefore agree not to take anything you read here as factual and that you will exercise due caution, diligence and common sense before acting on any information you may come across here.
You also agree to report any inaccurate or malicious comments with the buttons. Moderators take action within 24 hours, as required and appropriate under law.
Our full terms and conditions apply too.
Do you solemnly agree to all of the above?
My point is that this horrific discriminatory story telling, in which you make all kinds of assumptions and insist that all non binary people are as you imagine the non binary people in your life to be is exactly how sexist men talk about women.
Every non binary person I know is mentally healthier than less introspective idiots who have never been to therapy because of their privilege. In learning to accept themselves in a world full of bigots like you, they have developed a deep sense of compassion and empathy that I don't see anywhere in this thread. Every single one of them is also a superstar because they had to be, to be treated with common decency. Why are your anecdotes which frankly reek of your prejudice superior to mine?
Shame on you for showing zero interest in all the work that it took for women to be able to study and practice law. I don't want to be in any group that is your transphobic 'side'. You are here seeking validation for your bigotry when you should be asking yourself difficult questions about why you make the assumptions you make about people who are different from you.
Dont think for a second that your gaslighting and shaming is going unnoticed. Youve got some issues with self-righteousness to work out- why do you think its okay to behave this way? I clearly think your beliefs are ill thought out and leading to harmful outcomes. I didnt come out scolding you to be kind or telling you you were doing hate speech until I'd head the same thing like ten times.
Heres some advice: Just quit dude. You dont have the disposition to be a moderator anywhere. Go be a real activist instead of shaming women for speaking their mind on the internet. You dont seem to be able to see good arguments on either side of most issues really. you seem trapped in us v them thinking where youre always the goodies and the other side is always the baddies. Its shockingly lacking in empathy.
'Word games' is a very old ad hominem attack tactic of the ignorant. I would recommend updation but I suspect repeating tired old tropes is your thing.
Even OP- shes not saying her friends are well and theyre doing it for kicks. She wrote this because shes concerned that their mental health is so far gone they are hanging on to this idea and antagonising all their friends and family. Shes unhappy she isnt able to support her friends the way they want and that she actually cannot in her own head figure out what the best way to help her friends is.
Its about thinking through whether evidence blind ideological positions based on esoteric academic philosophy - and cancelling dissidents- can actually be the basis for discussion in the material real world. If you make things unsayable because you think it appears bigoted- youre not actually interested in solving the problem- youre interested in being seen as wonderful and "on the right side of history".
The question is what stories you are cherry picking and what you understand from them. Forgive me if I find it difficult to treat your anecdotes as some sort of iron clad evidence of how you know more than one of the most cited and celebrated philosophers in the world.
Also 'people in India' is a very large group of people encompassing patriarchal to matrilineal societies and many values and languages. So one group of people can be burning women and marrying off children while another group criticises it. Wild right? Imagine that.
I go first - 7+1 > Boutique law firm
P.S. T-1s can drop out of this conversation if you wish to. The salary bands have been discussed at length in previous posts.
Want to know about the team, the partner, any known problematic people, the kind of work they primarily do, tempo on most days?
Thanks in advance
In real life- yes- if women make inappropriate sexualising comments at the workplace and youre not interested you absolutely should shut that down. has that happened to you?
I know when I was in my twenties at my first job my boss thought it was okay to grab my thigh and another senior colleague snapped my bra once. I had to gather the courage and shut it down. No one did it for me. It wouldnt do to go to HR and cry- id get branded as a cry baby and too sensitive. I politely asked them why they did that and asked them what their wives would think.
there isnt one kind of feminism. Feminists disagree amongst themselves about a number of things. If you want to learn anything about it- you should start with discarding the assumption that all women must think alike.
Further if law firm is your goal, it is better to start in law firm than in-house because generally the lateral hiring from inhouse to firm is not preferred that much. Plus the inhouse role tends to get managerial at some point. Learning is not that high in in-house.

The featured answer is actually very true..
The OP needs to be prepared to handle that stuff, which the previous comment wasn't giving helpful advice for OP to do. You have, in fact, provided that helpful advice, so props to you for doing that. In fact, if I were OP, I'd say you have been even more helpful, for you have stated the obvious to make sure the understanding on how not to be toxic yourself is clear.
I've read these and more. However, do you know any Indian Scholar or anyone from the Global South dealing with this topic ?
I am a BO 2025 student and am inclined to pursue a career in Litigation (Not very particular as to what sub-specialization). I am open to all forms of Civil/Commercial Litigation.
I find Counsel practice very attractive and would love to get decent exposure to Court practice/procedure and appear regularly. I have 2-3 assessments lined up for me in Tax, Commercial, Civil Litigation. I have noticed that generally at law firms the Associates/SA's do not have much opportunities to appear and that is a little scary.
(1) Do I move to counsel practice/under an independent lawyer right now itself for exposure to Appearing, court procedure etc and then maybe move to firms because you would have anyway made decent contacts with firms if you are in a Sr. counsel's office.
(2) Do I join a law firm and make some money for 3-4 years and then gradually move into Counsel Offices/ Independent practioners. You meet a lot of Sr. Counsel's for briefing and can then ask for chances.
I am a first generation lawyer, Mumbai based upper middle class family (parents have offered to support me financially to reasonable extents and not to compromise on career options) with previous Internships at 2-3 Counsel offices. Please share your insights on this?
I often stick to normal open rubber chappals or Sparx equivalent but in plastic/foam. I keep formal shoes in the office cubicle and change into them in the washroom after drying. The issue with most formal looking rubber shoes for me is they give me shoe bites. You don't want shoe bites that too in the rainy season.

Make your CV looks decent, crisp, to the point and is not vague about your work experience.
Write an article or something related to corporate. Dont hesitate to work for smaller firms for minimal pay, it will increase after an year, take whatever ypou get if you think the opportunity is good.
I got to know about the opening through a friemd who was working at the firm, but I was also applying at a lot of other places.
Dont be disheartened if you dont hear back, I had literally applied at 100 places to get only a few call backs, it might seem a lil difficult but i promise you its not impossible.
Try and convince the interviewer that you are really interested in the field and you will learn things, tell them to ficus on your potential and not on your experience.

Why do we need to teach courses referencing books authored by such a toxic person, whose views can lead to more hate and violence that trans persons face? Also, Harry Potter is now really old and doesn't have the same relevance for today's youth as it did for earlier generations. As an alternative, law schools can instead teach with reference to the Game of Thrones/House of the Dragon books and TV shows. There are tons of jurisprudential and legal concepts one can find within it, e.g. Church versus State, legitimacy of government, Walk of Shame as a gendered retributive form of punishment, humane treatment of prisoners, slavery etc etc. Check out these articles:

For example, as per details in the above shared link, Amazon may say that the CTC for a software development engineer (fresher) is INR 45 LPA, but it seems that the said fresher will get INR 25,64,000 in their first year [Base salary: โน 19,17,000 Signing Bonus: โน 11,65,000 (โน 6,47,000 1st year + โน 5,18,000 2nd year) Stock or RSU: โน 15,56,000 (vested over 4 years) Total CTC: โน 46,38,000]. The said fresher will have to pay a tax of INR 6,04,968 (income tax is INR 5,81,700 + HEC is INR 23,268). The in-hand salary of the fresher will be INR 19,59,032, which is still more that what any fresher in any law firm in India gets. But not as humongous a difference in pay as it would have been if the actual pay is INR 45 LPA.
But, as per the same link above, Sprinklr pays a CTC of INR 30 LPA (all base pay) to its fresh product engineers.
It also makes me feel jealous to see that engineering interns get paid in lakhs. It reminds me of a conversation with a date of mine (a software engineer) who was working in the same building as KCO, Bangalore's office, when I was interning there. They asked me how much stipend I was paid. I said that I would be paid INR 5K per month (although I was paid only INR 9.4K for two months). They told me that their interns were paid INR 70K per month.
P.S. - I am not sure if my understanding and my tax calculations are right.
I am just pasting the table containing the details of salary breakups. I don't know if it will appear the same way as I am pasting.
