Hi everyone,

I’m currently a 4th-year law student at a mid-tier NLU. I’m planning to pursue an LL.M. in the UK in the future, mainly targeting Cambridge.

At present, my academic score is around 75–78%. I’m not among the top 10 rankers in my batch in terms of CGPA, which is something I’m a bit concerned about. With academics, I’ve been actively focusing on building my profile through teaching assistantships, publications, and student editorships in journals.

After the graduation, I am planning to go for a judicial clerkship at the Supreme Court for 1–2 years before applying for the LL.M., as I don’t intend to pursue it immediately after law school.

I wanted guidance on:

1. 1. How much does a 75–78% score (without being a top ranker) impact chances at top universities like Cambridge?
2. 2. How competitive are fully funded scholarships like Chevening in such a scenario? And is "75%" gonna reduce my chances of it.
3. 3. What additional steps I can take over the next 1–2 years to strengthen my profile for both admission and scholarships?

Would really appreciate insights from people who have gone through a similar path or have experience with UK LL.M. admissions and scholarships.

I'm basing it purely based on their meteoric rise in rankings. Perhaps there woll a time when foreigners will come study at Jiggles like the climax scene in Mudhalvan (remade as Nayak in Hindi).

See, Jiggles has already left universities like Humboldt and KU Leuven behind. Purely going by QS, second place after NUS isn't far behind.

And tell me why the hell would that foreign-returned faculty's overseas contacts do that? I live abroad in one of the countries whose many law schools score highly in the rankings (NB: no plans to come back, as my future overseas is pretty secured) and I can definitely tell you that anyone trying to get a contact in this country to do that would have to move heaven, hell, fire, water and earth to even hope to do that. Therefore, doing it at an "industrial scale" is totally impossible.

There are serious structural flaws in how institutions and scores are compared. NLUs follow a single-discipline model that has no real parallel globally. Most universities worldwide are multi-disciplinary.

Because of this, NLUs face a built-in disadvantage in global rankings. Multidisciplinary universities such as JGU, DU, and others benefit from aggregated data across fields. This includes publications, research output, resources, and reputation. These factors significantly inflate their scores. In contrast, NLUs operate within a narrow academic scope. Their output is concentrated in one discipline, which limits their comparative metrics. Against this backdrop, the performance of three NLUs in global rankings is commendable. They have managed to stand out despite clear structural disadvantages, demonstrating strong academic quality and institutional capability. Some experiments in NLS, particularly NLUD, within their academic ecosystem are unique.

You do realise that QS doesn't automatically select universities to be ranked and one has to formally participate in such ranking, right? So any university that does not so participate can't automatically be considered better or worse for that matter. As for the accuracy of these rankings, the entire academic world is aware of the lack thereof. These can be hacked and do get so hacked, without having any qualitative bearing on the university or its students.

He is not new to it. He has done it at NALSAR also, when lockdown was announced. ▮▮▮. Then an open house was called he had to apologize, what worked in his favor was that the Uni. remained closed for a very long period due to covid.

When a student filed a complaint against him to the CJ and requested that he not be given another term, his spies informed him about it. He then called the student to his office, asked him to deposit his mobile phone with his PA, and what happened next inside the office can be imagined. He reportedly did the same with a faculty member who then filed a formal complaint against him with the State SC/ST Commission. It seems he has still not learned his lesson. Its time to call him out for his misconduct.

How can the students slap the police? Perhaps the VC can, because if the Police and administration retaliates it would be his neck on the line. I did an LLM and landed in BigLaw and would recommend this route to NOBODY.

Apply to a 3 year JD degree at a school which is decently ranked (Top 20) and go wherever you get most scholarships. They have pipelines for summer internships at firms and organizations since first year with almost guaranteed job offers unlike the NLU -> Tier 1 PPO pipeline.

It will work out to roughly the same cost, but you will have opportunities to build network, earn internship and part time money, and participate in campus recruitment.

Hi everyone, I’m currently working as a Legal Associate at a VC fund. Before this, I had a short stint at a Tier 2 law firm. I moved on from that role due to cultural fit and personal reasons. I now have around 1.5 years of total experience and am looking to transition to a good Tier 1 firm, ideally in the PE/VC space. Can anybody guide me on how to approach this move?

Awesome!!! I glanced through the full report. Two things are very clear:

First, the critical importance of forensic sciences in the modern-day legal domain cannot be overstated. There's no such thing as too much forensic science. Law without forensic science is like commerce without accounting.

Second, the proposed National Institute of Forensic Science in the UK shows how farsighted India has been in establishing the NFSU. So if anyone thinks that NFSU is competing with the NLUs, they must be delusional. NFSU's mandate and mission are much broader and critical to the country's legal ecosystem.

If you are from batch'26, don't bother about it. The hiring is already done for this batch. Also the guy has a reputation of distributing assessment internship to everyone and later on ghosting/ being vague to respond for placement.

Ps - initially he'll give you a toffee of getting approval of the majority of the team to recommend you for placement and later on the team will tell you that oh it's his sole discretion only and he doesn't listen to anyone from the team so basically making you just a ball in a ping pong. Though it's a good place to learn Cap Marks.

Would not want to push any agenda but everyone would agree that the faculty co-ordinator is the biggest impediment to any moot at HNLU.

None of the convenors were people with merit, only people who are easy to maneuver. The mistake you're speaking of is very very very possible.

I am unaware of any case saying this. Further, all rights enumerated under Article 21 are an inalienable part of Article 21 itself. No case says that Article 21 can be split into two parts: 1) the right to life and liberty given by the Constitution, and 2) the rights read into Article 21 by the Constitution. There is no distinction between the two. The rights read into Article 21 are what make up the right to life and liberty given by the Constituent Assembly. To argue otherwise would be to take an originalist position which has little to no support in Indian constitutional jurisprudence. The amendment to the 2019 Act is in substance, though not in form, an attempt at amending Article 21 which cannot be allowed to stand.

But when they were claiming they are leaders, and when they enjoy the Fan dom (see their following on insta and X) , they dont restrict it to LGB only. They carried the torch for the NY Pride parade. They have played to the gallery all across.

And whenever I hear about studying in this context of NLUS it's always referred as 'reading'

Are you required to and/or do you ever get the time to revise atleast the important half of the subject matter more than twice?

Or do you need not do that and can remember things without revision more than twice

Because I have heard people say that they achieve good marks and then forget everything afterwards, I mean that doesn't sounds pretty absurd but I get that you've gotta study a lot as well and only the important topics really matter

Can you law students stop talking rubbish. An AI as of now can't even read a share certificate properly until it is actually scanned and provided properly. Also try and convince your client (Company) that an AI robot will make their entire drhp and go through their documents, let alone convince them to send all documents on time without having to explain why the ipo cannot go forward without a factory license. AI cannot replace the work done by a lawyer no matter how mundane and clerical it is since it is all high liability work. Here at T too we have adopted an AI service but you cannot send any document without verifying it yourself

You are just in your third year right now, don't worry too much. Keep interning in chambers and keep in touch with the lawyers in those chambers. Unlike the relatively structured way in which hiring by law firms takes place, there is no set method to becoming a junior in a chamber. From my experience, two things must be true for you to become a junior under any particular lawyer: 1) that lawyer must not have so many juniors that they can't take on any more, and 2) they must like you for whatever reason (your work ethic, quality of work, personality, or something else entirely). The second condition is the more important of the two and its non-fulfilment will ensure that the lawyer will not give you a junior position or help you get one under another lawyer. The only exception being if you have some contact who can pull some strings but unfortunately this is not true for you. The first condition is relatively less important since a lawyer will probably help you become a junior under some other lawyer if his own chamber is full and he likes you.

An easy way of keeping in touch with lawyers is just telling them that you are free to take on any work that they might have even after your internship ends. Unless you have done terrible work during the internship, there is generally no reason why they would not give you work. If any lawyer agrees to do this, ensure that 1) the quality of your output does not suffer due to college, 2) you sustain the arrangement for a long period of time, and 3) you try to make at least some small talk during your interactions with the lawyer as you want the lawyer to be interested in you as a person and not just as some guy who helps them with work (try not to overdo the small talk either). Remember that you don't have to take on too much work also, it is enough if you are getting work even once or twice a month. The important part is maintaining a connection with the lawyer so that the lawyer does not forget you and you continue to remain in their good books.
