If the mods had been indiscrete enough to share my IP address, you would have seen that it is an IP address from 5000 miles or more away from where you are now: and that's how far off I have been from your college (and the country in general) for the last several (more than even I care to think of) years (and intend to stay for the lifespan afforded to me). I rarely get irritated when reading LI, because you silly kids, who have no better work in life than to "rant", afford much amusement to those who appreciate the more serious issues of life. All I am irritated with is this victimhood mentality about English: the very same pernicious nonsense that says CLAT should be in Hindi and ask questions about farming, instead of being in English and asking questions about French foreign policy in South America. If Sudhir (who has never heard of me BTW) can be accused of the "Jindalification of NLS", then you sure can be accused of the "GNLUfication of NLS" also.

Its a rebuttable presumption after a certain point. Do a network analysis of how NLS faculty all know each other from before being hired and you'll find a lot of these ties go deep.

Some of these professors will resent the patronage system that led to corruption in previous generations but essentially engage in the same thing themselves.

There was a person involved in teaching law subjects at the university who did not have an LLM. They had an MA. According to BCI regulations they were explicitly not even qualified to teach law courses or to be hired as an assistant professor of law. They have recently left the university to go pursue a phd somewhere else but it was clear to their students that the legal training was just not there and instead you just got social justice pablum.

The point is that you shouldn't confuse polish for value. Candidates who paid their way into fancy degrees abroad who do not have publications or did not win scholarships and who often have nothing to recommend them at all are being preferred over equally qualified if not more experienced candidates. You draw this binary between - foreign llm good/ indian llm bad- maybe. to some extent. Yale llm is better than NLS. Sure . is a UCLA/QMUL/ Melbourne/ Random European University ? I'm not so certain. Thats not even a function of how much english you have- thats a function of how much money you have. How many of the young people hired even have a decent publication record or any teaching experience? This is the jindalification of NLS to be honest.

I understand why people are defensive of Sudhir- he came in when there was deep rot within the system and seemed to remedy some of its worse excesses. The kind of people he has hired- would never even have applied to NLS in years prior. But that doesnt mean hes perfect and we need to ignore all the corruption that goes on. Sunlight is a disinfectant always.

because other NLUs aren't the only universities in the world. Many of these people are in private universities, some are in universities abroad. Do you know what it means to have books be published by OUP/CUP ? do you know what it is to have publications in nature? do you know what a small percentage of academics in India ever have that? You're dismissing these candidates without even knowing who they are- exactly what nls might be doing- because what? arrogance? if someone isnt in sudhirs immediate orbit are they by definition not good academics? i'm talking about people who are internationally competitive who have told me these things.

Why is your knee jerk reaction not- yes we should have transparency? why is it- oh youre just talking about people who might be gaming the system instead of people who are very credible? you dont even know who they are!

8 Lakhs to organise a moot is bonkers, judges aren’t usually paid at NLU’s, the travel is usually train tickets for prelim judges and airfare for the senior practitioners. Accommodation is also usually on campus and most resources utilised are pre existing. This is outright money minting similar to certificate courses and online competitions with registration fees working on volumes and one solicited internship opportunity every desperate law student runs after due to FOMO.

Thank you. Im genuinely having panic attacks and anxiety, these days are tough. The only negative I see was I had almost 7 months gap after my masters which may have affected my prospects. I didn't put myself in this situation on purpose, I literally tried everywhere and ended up taking the 1st job I got :(

Same situation. Same age factor. I know it is difficult. Just would say, look at the bright side in whichever situation you are. Many are not even making 10k in the profession despite 1-2 years being already in. Try switching careers if you don't find yourselves fit for it. Reach out to people around. Some of the people might help with jobs. Don't box yourself in legal jobs only. Especially, if you have found something that could be more satisfactory monetarily as well as emotionally.

I'd heard somewhere (won't swear to it, as I don't follow this stuff regularly) that the UPSC CSE age limit has been increased, even for general candidates. Can't find the exact website where I saw this, but distinctly remember seeing it. Changed to 32, I believe. So why not try again? You've gotten some life experience also now, maybe give it a thought?

5 Years vs. 6 Years

A BA Hons / Program degree and then an LLB degree vs. An integrated BA.LLB degree

Further, there is no guarantee whether you will make it to CLC, the competition at PG level is quite intense. While it has the greatest litigation legacy in the country (most judges and senior advs are from CLC/ LC-I / LC-II), it lacks in placements.

Yes, tolerating mistreatment is the price of entry (and retention). We don't actually have any corporate-relevant skills that makes us distinguishable from any layperson on the street, and in any case, from any other lay-lawyer who has passed the Bar Exam and has some modicum of sense & language proficiency. So we're all just so easily replaceable that Partners and PAs really have no interest in treating us well, because when we leave they can find our replacement within the notice period or at the maximum a few months.

The real question I ask myself is why we are paid so highly. There are so many decently-talented graduates who are willing and able to push themselves to whatever extent for a shot to work at the Tier 1s just for the name brand alone, and I'm sure it'd be the same even if the pay were to be slightly reduced. Even at 1 LPM (down from 1.5 LPM), freshers would throng to these firms, so why not save the CSs, SSs and HKs of this world some more money?

The usual process for most students at T-1 firms is as follows:

Initial Internship → Presentation and/or Research Paper at the end of Initial Internship → (Positive) Feedback Form → Call-back/Assessment Internship → Partner(s) recommend you for PPO Interview consideration → PPO Interview → (Positive) PPO Interview Feedback → PPO Offer!

Alternatively some students also do long-term internships or become paralegals at these firms to secure a PPO recommendation.

You will have to start by securing your initial internship with the firm by applying to the firm (through college or independently or through contacts :)

Duration really depends on the path you follow tbh, some only have to intern for a couple of months and they secure the PPO whereas some can even pursue very very long internship periods via extensions. Depends on your ability and resilience!

In the end it doesn't mattwr who you work with. All that matters at CAM is who is in the circle of trust or the flavour of that time. If you work for someone in those categories, you got it made. Else youre just there for the stamp, to learn whatever max you can learn and then just go somewhere else where they actually treat merit as merit.

Everything was good but later the committee people make everything pathetic and surely you guys IPL01 are cowards and now you will pay for your mistakes. lets understand some basic logic propositions. a person can be designed a senior advocate, get briefed by the top firms and still be a hate monger.

and attempting something does not make a person an intellectual or worthy of being platformed. to spell out the most basic issue, he cant even distinguish between descriptive and normate claims. to make it clear, my issue with him is not his ideology. i think all intelelctual work is ideologically driven. my issue with him is the basic lack of respect for theory and method. a bricolage of things that sound interesting is not intellectual work. its what we did in school for our 8th grade projects.
