I am a final year law student and I am currently weighing my options as to which is the best field for career progression and skill development. I have done multiple Tier 1 internships and can confidently say that the learning curve for researching is over- I have a lot of experience with that. I am interested in criminal law and do not have much experience with drafting per se. I aspire to be a judge or alternatively an APP, but keeping in mind the 3 years practice rule, I am confused whether I should go for a law researcher position (the money, possible judge side exposure) and then practice at a chamber or straight away go for a good chamber practicing at the high court and district courts? I have been inclined towards the law researcher position but I want to take a decision based on what is best for my career growth. People glorify the LR position but I want to know- do you even really learn anything apart from briefing etc.?

PS: I luckily do not have an immediate requirement for money and can be supported by my family so that is not a crucial factor for me although it's good to have a heavy paycheck.

I have heard from insiders (associates) of T1 firms that hiring will stop for the upcoming batches because of AI. SAM and CAM has adopted their own AIs and top foreign firms are also doing massive layoffs because of AI. Can someone who already work in TA Indian firms enlighten me on this trend.

But the gentleman in question was given the long rope by Great Leader and Co to secure citizenship of this supremely non existent country in the first place. Having acquired the same he is sitting pretty in UAE whose Sheiks are dear friends if Great Leader. And less said about ED and CBI intentions...then again this has happened in the past and will repeat in future as well. That's why setting and following precedent is important.

Don't just stack internships. Perfect the craft. As Karl JUng said - No matter how isolated you feel you may be, if you do your work truly and conscientiously, unknown allies would come and seek you. Do more internships and decide that you're going to outperformer every intern the firm has ever seen. You'll make the partners want to hire you. Alos work on your oratory skills, personality, dressing sense, it also makes a huge difference in how people perceive you.

Definitely look into MNLU Nagpur’s Adjudication and Justicing program. The CLAT cutoff is usually around 5,000, and they’ve got a unique selection process with a psychometric test, GD, and interview. Nirma is another solid option to keep on your radar.

Take the entrance for JGLS and see if they offer you a scholarship. Honestly, if you aren't getting a significant fee waiver, it’s probably not worth the massive investment. Instead, I’d suggest giving the MHCET a serious shot. Getting into GLC Mumbai or ILS Pune is totally doable if you prep well. They’re super affordable and the brand value is huge. You won't get much hand-holding for placements, but that brand value opens doors everywhere, from Tier-1 firms to LLMs at IvyLeauge or Oxbridge.

Now, for a controversial take: I’d actually pick GGSIPU Delhi over a Tier-3 NLU. (even more if your home is in delhi) The ROI is great fees are only about 1 LPA. While the faculty and the vibe might not match a top NLU, being in Delhi is advantage. Thanks to the DHC judgment, you can’t really be debarred for attendance (they can at best deduct 5 out of 100 marks), which gives you the freedom to intern for a huge chunk of the semester. If you’re proactive and hungry enough, you can build a killer CV in Delhi that makes up for the lack of a top-tier brand. It might be a bit harder to get your foot in the door initially compared to NLU kids, but if you want it badly enough, GGSIPU gives you the location and the time to actually make it happen. Ultimately, the best attitude to have is that I am going to achieve what I want regardless of which law school I go to; because that’s just what I fucking do. People blame their Law School for their failure. But the highest level of self belief and awareness is to take ownership of your own actions. You can sit around complaining that your college isn't a Tier-1 NLU, or you can decide that your success is is consequence of your actions, not circumstances. If you’re proactive and hungry enough, you can build a killer CV (and truly and conscientiously work towards getting better at the craft ) that makes up for the lack the NLU privilege. Like NF said, "What's achievable depends on the risk." If you believe in yourself, take the risk. I took that risk by choosing this path, and I don't regret it for a second. Decide right now that you’re going to achieve exactly what you want regardless of the institution, because you are the only variable that matters. symbiosis noida isn't bad, but if you want to try for something better, maybe consider nirma? there are other state govt college exams going on like mhcet, maybe prep for those and take a partial drop if you want to go to an nlu. at 5k you could get into some t3 nlu via vacancies.

The average person (first gen) has as much chance of becoming a senior charging 20 lacs per hearing as the possibility of an asteroid colliding with earth in the next 6 months. The starry eyed law students may not like it, but most first gen lit bros are arguing petty consumer disputes at consumer tribunals, or matrimonial disputes at family courts, and getting paid (if at all) 20 bucks per hearing.

Hi, I'm a science student who's in PCM and going to give boards. I have Physics exam the day after tomorrow and I'm literally shaking because despite doing everything Im not able to solve anything and for the past few years CBSE is giving extremely difficult physics paper.

I gave CLAT 2026 with 1 month or so preparation and barely 4 mocks. I managed to secure CNLU with the help of my category and domicile. I'm going to take a drop year this year.

My parents wanted me to focus on boards and score atleast 90%+ but I am starting to doubt I could even score 80%+ now.

Could you guys tell me what's the minimum percentage for boards which puts me in a safe zone as I know that boards grades don't matter much in India however in foreign countries it does and I don't know the safe limit. My elder brother is in a T1 nlu yet I can't ask him as my parents have high hopes from me and so does he. Infact,even I did but now it seems to fade away. And for once I could disappoint everyone around me however disappointing my own self would take a huge mental toll on me which I cannot afford.

I feel the book is the type of book which is generally not available in India, and I think it is a good starting point. The book is very engaging and tells us about the inside story of the firm and the revolution it caused in the indian legal sector through the introduction of certain policies such as the lockstep method, distancing itself from surename based firm idea, etc. It also tells us about the background of other firms, such as Phoenix. Moreover, I often used to think about how these firms actually start, like how they get their first clients. The book tells a lot about this.

Hi, I have been working with a Boutique law firm in Bangalore as an A0 for about 8 months. My workplace is extremely toxic, but I am more concerned about some unsolicited advances from one of the senior members of the firm. The pay is approx. 8-10LPA. I am the sole earner in my family since my dad retired, and I genuinely need to earn more to pay off a few debts. I am planning to switch to a tier one firm so that I can start earning as much as possible. I do not have any issues with a toxic environment as long as there are no SA-related concerns.

Please guide me as to which firms' Corp teams are looking to hire, and don't per se discount experience.

Also, I wanted to ask whether firms, in general, have issues with prior experience that was largely PE/VC rather than M&A, and, if so, whether they would reduce the pay of the lateral hire.

Hi which office did you apply to? I've previously interned at FoxMandal & Associates in December (hyd office) & was looking to this time do a proper IP internship at the blr branch. I kept following up with my mails, the head HR spoke very rudely saying we've already given you an internship once, why do you want to take the opportunities of others dont waste my time and so on.

Kind of confused if I have broken some etiquette with regards to applying. Additionally, would like to know if there are any good IP firms in Blr that offer assesment internships ( that actually end up converting)

I understand that people are unhappy. But have they tried speaking to mid level or partners directly and tell them the issues? Long hours and volume cannot be solved for but maybe it's important for both sides to sit down and speak to each other.

Maybe the managers should consider making juniors and seniors sit down with each other, mandatorily and have the difficult conversation

Dude just do just a basic linkedin research. I personally knew a lot of people that have left. counsels that have left are: PV and KJ from the Fintech and FSR team. There are no counsels left. RJ, the senior associate has also left. All last year associate (A0) hires have left and no hires from the year previous to that have stayed with the firm. And NO they were not fired, some were but there were alot who chose to resign without even another job at hand because working at SRL was just that miserable. Please have the basic decency to not lie outright - these people are playing with the careers of students and must be called out.

I am from first batch of integrated law programme at IIM Rohtak, despite the high fees and brand name, the entire batch is struggling to get any job offers, getting internships at t1 firms was also rare. No day zero, no recruitment drive, we have been left shattered. I belong to a middle class family and having spend such huge amount to end with no job. I am depressed and feel pathetic.

There is one legendary article by an NUJS prof which has been shared on LI ad nauseum, but it’s not that the other NLUs are miles ahead??? What do you think of this career as a whole? As Insurance law is not a well known area of law and is it very niche area to work in as compared to other corporate laws? I find insurance claims and legal very interesting but the career opportunities in this field makes me unsure

Well, for starters, clat is a less known exam, whereas jee is a household name- which contributes to the hype around the result itself.

So, no. Clat toppers are not celebrated the same way JEE toppers are, and while both toppers are meritorious, it's more about awareness and competition. But i feel it's better this way, and there's no need for gimmicks by coachings to drum up more clients in clat, not that there is none currently, but almost negligible in comparison.

SYMBI Noida is the choice, because one thing that stands out is getting 1.5 months excuse attendance per semester in 4th year for Internships and in 5th year 2 months per semester. This excludes your 1 month break between each semester. Also NCR has every practise area that one can explore. Mumbai and other cities have less visibility when it comes to options.

So long story short, I completed my LLB and LLM in 2016. I then joined a friend's business and we built a somewhat decent local brand for the last 10 years. We are currently doing really well, the whole thing is coasting smoothly.

In between I did nothing related to law. No litigation, no court, no corporate, no internships, nothing. However, I would read livelaw and legal matters daily since I just couldn't let go of my love for law. I feel I need to get back into the game. However I do not want to get into corporate, so that means NO MBA and NO Law firms. What do I do ?

1. Should I apply for a PhD and get into research since I love legal issues and would have that passion to sustain.

2. Should I pivot to something like socio-legal research and apply at places like TISS.

3. Should I join litigation. There's a ten year gap but that's the most accepting place irrespective of age and money is not an issue.

4. Do I genuinely swallow my pride and join corporate with a MBA/executive MBA. I have a decade of experience in setting up a business from scratch.

It's not for the money. I'm earning enough through our business. It's about the passion and happiness to do something much more than financial satisfaction.

Any suggestions would be thankful.
