for my understanding this happened because of law firm and their obsession with gpa . if we compare CPC, CrPC, Company Law, Banking Law, Tax Law, Contract Law ,Constitutional Law, IPC with human rights or general 'poetic' area of law then it is easy to get good gpa in this compared to others . In the end firm even dont look at elective in the cv. Firms just sees high cpa equates to a pass in jobs or internship . So student are gaming the system by taking easy subject . This take is subjective and I had only seen this in my circle . Because of ai student just chatgpt it or ask to other llm provide the information about the project they're working on . These LLMs are trained on article and wikipedia, biased towards them or use only these sources to understand the context of the prompt the user provided .

If you are moving to a foreign firm, they will look at your overall work experience in India and see how much of it would be relevant to what you will be doing when you join them and usually only take into account a part of that (the rest of the Indian law experience will be written off) and assign you a PQE in their system.

Hi, people of LI. I am a final year student with a decent enough CV, but I feel like I still know nothing in my final year. For your reference, I am inclined towards M&A, PE/VC. I feel none of my work is upto standard, nor does anyone seem to be keen on mentoring interns.

For example, the firm I am interning at, gave me some litigation work. I suffer from imposter syndrome, so whenever I get something new, I mess up everything due to nerves. I have never even done a litigation internship ever, so I had no clue of what was being given. I did not draft it well, of course, the associate said something mean behind my back.

Does it get better? Is law as a profession designed for only people of two kinds–one who have imposter syndrome, and the others, who enable it?

Hi, how long does IndiaCorpLaw take to publish something? Do they send any mail to acknowledge any submission sent to them? I have not heard back from them, though it has not been more than a couple of days. Should I be worried? Maybe my paranoia is getting the best of me, but I hope to get feedback from people here. Essentially, although the salaries are higher in London, the taxes are (far) higher and so is the cost of living if you live in a nice part of London (and even more so if you want to send your children to private school). Far more bang for the buck in India in terms of finances - the lower taxes and lower cost of living mean you can afford a lot more and have more disposable income, not to mention there are simply more opportunities in a growing market and country like India.

On the other hand - there are lots of things about London you can't measure in money. How do you measure the value of living in London and not choking on the way to work like winter in Delhi? Or using it as a base to see Europe and the world and have friends from all over the world and work with the best people in the world? Ultimately it depends on what is important to you and what you want from life - but if money is all you want (nothing wrong with that) - trust me, stick to India.

Yes, if you come to London when you're 26 and work hard for 5 years and live carefully and save money and go back at 31, you can probably save more than you can in India, but after 5 years you probably won't want to go back (and you would have wasted the opportunity to experience London and Europe) and once children and spouse enter the picture there are a lot more factors in the equation. And if you want that kind of 5 year plan you're better off going to Dubai or Singapore where the taxes are lower anyway.

Yes, some good corporate lawyers from tier 1 firms seem to have moved to LKS in the past few years. Many such laterals have left also. The “factor” system applies to these laterals as well and the targets are very heavy. It would be good to know how the laterals have fared in LKS. It would also be interesting to know 1) if these laterals are facing internal competition from LKS’ lawyers who have or are transitioning to corporate practice in LKS; 2) the difficulties in developing corporate work in an IDT firm.

Just because as per you, tier 1 M&A firms pay less to IDT attorneys, that does not justify a tier 1 tax firm paying less to its IDT attorneys. The tier 1 tag, whether for an M&A firm, IP firm or a tax firm, is an indicator of how a firm is expected to treat and compensate its attorneys. If the work is tier 1 and the compensation structure is tier 2 or tier 3, there is a serious disconnect there. And this needs discussion.

I've noticed people moving from idt teams of tier 1 firms to LKS. From what I could gather, the IDT teams of these tier 1 firms merely function as a backend support for m&a teams, thus, the exposure and pay is very limited. So if your focus is on IDT, either go for LKS or any of the Big 4s. And IDT as such is not a well paying practice area. If the focus is on money, better to opt for a different practice area.

You are comparing apples with oranges. The figures quoted of so called tier 1 firms are of their tier 1 practice areas such as M&A which are high paying. The payscale of IDT teams in these tier 1 firms are peanuts compared to their counterparts in other practise areas. Also the bonus in LKS ranges from 2-4.

IDT practice is becoming stagnant across many firms. The reason is that the government through the GST Council has been resolving issues and simplifying the GST law. The IDT work on the advisory side has seen steady decline and the market is becoming tougher with many boutiques, CAs and Big 4 commoditising the work. If the Customs 2.0 reforms also simplify customs laws, that will make it very difficult for IDT focused firms to sustain revenues and growth. If you have an option, choose some practice area other than IDT.

It's something of a propaganda so that the nlus lying immediately below it can squeeze their way through word-of-mouth into tier 1 league. Most of the posts you'll see here would be by ganloos (gnlu fanboys). Almost all the nlus this time around are in a bad shape in terms of admin and placements because of market predicaments (look at nlu delhi placement stats). To answer your question, I've graduated from tier 1 nlu and currently at a t-1 law firm and let me tell you nliu is a very reputed t-1 nlu and holds great influence in the corporate circles (esp t-1). We all know that the various international law bodies NLU grads work with are bankrolled by the US. They may have done LLM dissertations on Marxist TWAIL principles and have Palestine flags in their Instagram bio, but they owe their careers and bank balances to the US. Simple as that. So what now? Will they be out of a job? And should future generations stick to LLMs in financial law, tech etc? Or hope that the BRICS and EU countries will step in and match US funding? How likely is that?

Hello, so I have a chance of pursuing LLM from NLS/NALSAR. Now I'm wondering if specialised courses like MNLU NISM are a better fit for my career?

I am preparing for SEBI Grade A anyways (2026), so will a specialised LLM fare better than a general LLM from let's say NALSAR? Will I get enough time to study for ancillary exams at NALSAR?

I also looked at the IBC course offered by NALSAR but it's a 2yr course and costs around 15 lakhs which is something you'll spend in 5yrs while pursuing a LLB from a T1 NLU. The plus looks like that you'll get IP certification with the course which generally takes around 10-15yrs?

I'm wondering if these courses are worth it.
