Depends how long you're able to stick through, and how sharp you are. If you are able to climb all the way up to Counsel or Partnership, you are the one transactioning the legal aspect of an issue. Associates do so much clerical work in ECM because the minimal advisory work is done by the partner themselves, who do not engage in such boring work. Also, while there may not be as many because most people leave, ECM is one of the most comfortable areas to transition jurisdictionally and work overseas. A lot of people do end up working with merchant banks to, yes.

Does it ever get any better down the line in CM? Apart from the money, is there anything else that is interesting or rather intellectually/mentally/even commercial stimulating about CM practice? Is the DCM practice better in comparison the ECM practice? And most importantly, what do the exit options look like - do SAs/PAs jump to the Merchant Banks and Foreign Law firms pretty often or are the jumps more difficult than they seem to be?

The Supreme Court of India is not supposed to be a research institute or a think tank. Chandrachud started this and it has assumed a life of its own. The Supreme Court must focus on deciding cases, on enforcing fundamental rights, and on issuing binding judgements. These kind of research reports and white papers issued by the Supreme Court have no legal sanctity, are a distraction, and are a waste of time, money, effort and energy. Academic and research institutions can focus on such research.

If you're truly educated, then you would ask these questions instead of getting all your info from these people masquerading as media.

Intelligent differntiation is justified as per laws. Same thing with reservation system. These are Muslim countries, so no protections need to be given to an already protected group. India was divided in the name of religion, and now people who do not belong to a particular religion are facing the wrath of the ruling section in these countries, since they are in minority. So we are just affording protection to them under CAA.

I recently for fired from a T1. I worked hard but i struggle with attention to detail. I think the reason why I got fired was because my couldn't build that trust amongst my seniors. they couldn't trust my deliverables ig.

thanks for the advice ACCA would be pretty easier after I complete my CA 'cause I'll get exemption in all the papers and would only have to give 4 papers. Considering litigation, I had plans for the same but, I heard that you will not be able a good money in your first 7 to 10 years of lifespan which I actually can't afford 'cause I am not financially capable. Plus fees of all the NLUs is not less than 15 lakhs considering even the internship expenses for which I had to go to Delhi so better to drop the idea of it.

All intelligence agencies run influence operations and cultivate local assets, including academics. Soviets did it with aplomb during the heydays of KGB. Some of the biggest names in Bollywood back then owed it all to them. And the IB and later RAW did not mind. Even now we have influence brokers in Bollywood etc but Russians no longer now pursue the harder variety in bureaucracy etc

For those who’ve been in similar situations — where the partner is “protected” because numbers look fine on paper — how did you handle it?

Did you escalate something like this to another partner or management?

Did you just keep your head down and coast until a better opportunity came?

Did sticking it out actually benefit your career in the long run?

Or is this the classic sign that it’s time to move?

Also, what’s the best way for the team to shield itself from the instability this creates? Any coping strategies or practical steps would be hugely helpful.

you're due to graduate in less than 6 months, your batch's hiring cycle is already over, and you're still asking "when"? I don't know how strong those references are, but if they're anything short of compelling the partner and firm to hire you at a single measly request, I think you should approach them NOW. And if they're one of those big client referrals that firms would always hire through, maybe ask them whenever you feel like after you graduate, won't make any difference.

If he has shouted on an intern then I promise you, the associates have had worse. So, don't worry about facing the team. They have all been there. The good thing is that u have been shouted at as an intern. Fuck off from that place right after the internship and never go back.

Hey, please don't let one person put you down like this. I dont know how good or bad your work was but I think there is no harm in looking at your own work in a critical manner to see if you fell short of what was expected in any way. The partner was obviously in the wrong for publicly berating you like that and you should not let that incident get to you. One person's disapproval of one piece of work that you did does not mean that you aren't cut out for the law.

Actually Mumbai team isn't really heavy weight. Kumar does a lot of pan India lit work now and would only see increase in his profile. Hardik also hasnt appeared outside Gujarat much and ELP has a real concern on their hand, if they need to appear in a medium sized matter. For large matters, obviously senior counsel would appear and for quite small matters, someone in-house can appear (though very few can do this). So lets see.

Which of the tier 1 / tier 2 has the best office? I don't mean just the interior decoration but how spacious and comfortable they are.

I'm still a student (with claustrophobia) and one of the most unappealing things about corp to me would be working in claustrophobic prone office for the rest of my life. I know this post might seem futile but it's something that really impacts people like me :⁠-⁠)

Hi! Former Tier - 1 lawyer, got diagnosed with ADHD anxiety 1 year into the field. Have been on medication since then and ended up quitting the law firm after a year. Thought litigation might be better off, but the anxiety here has peaked and unfortunately in the beginning there are a lot of tedious tasks to keep engaged and stimulated. It’s great that you have already thought about it while in law school, but I think it’s helpful to start preparing and get the support you need early on. In India especially its difficult to ask for accommodation because of how it might be perceived, but be prepared and remember to be kind to yourself no matter what :)
