We want LI to be one of the friendliest places on the internet, where lawyers and law students help each other with their career related queries and occasionally discuss other stuff that might affect their lives too. In other words:
1. Be kind, respectful and helpful to each other.
2. Be bona fide, truthful, genuine and curious.
3. Assume the best intention of others.

1. Join another firm - well, if someone is in a T1, and they can't grow, they'll have to move. They won't necessarily join another T1 again. So most would go to a lower tier firm, may become partner sooner. But money? Lesser. Again, no point doing it. Perhaps yes, you may get your name on the wall.
2-3. Your argument is incorrect. You are comparing a successful person in a law firm (otherwise everyone would become a salaried partner in 10-12 years) v. an average first gen litigator. In that comparison, yes, a law firm glorified clerk would win. But, we are comparing on equal footing - on people who are sucessful. Any litigator, regardless of whether first gen or not, if successful, in 10-12 years would not only be independent but also have juniors under them. And yes, maybe 1cr a year would be difficult, but surely it would be 50-70% of that. However, with 15 PQE, where a salaried partner may still remain one, the litigator would be outearning the partner. As for building a book, a litigator does it from day 1 (not counting the delhi based associate-junior system which is a mockery). So it ages like fine wine for a litigator. Not for a clerk who was only doing paperwork and now has to suddenly bring in corporate houses.
4-5. Fine, yes, I'll take it - job satisfaction means different to different people. To the glorified clerks in law firms, its surely a job in the legal profession. Their view and horizon are narrow. Second, as regards the work of a commercial litigator coming up only where a transactional lawyer fails - thats incorrect. Even if the transaction was airtight - if the parties violate it, a dispute arises which in most cases go to a litiagator- whether in arbitration or in courts.
6-7. Very, very incorrect. You think senior advocates are only those who come from generational wealth? They get cases because they got recommended? Right, so any tom, dick, or harry, irrespective of how good or bad they are, just because they are well connected, a MNC would entrust a billion dollar litigation to them
Why? Because they have generational wealth. Your point here unfortunately has no facts. Its utter conjecture. The controversies about senior designation aside (or being both opaque and rewarding undeserving people) it has rewarded many many 1st gen advocates who came from nothing. And those seniors are earning much more than their equivalent โฎโฎโฎ in a law firm who are salaried or equity partners with no identity.
No, you aren't dreaming small, or dreaming according to your reality. Your dreams are incorrect. There is every possibility for an IITian to have been a son/daughter of IITians. Your comparison does not make sense at all. To even say that no 1st generation would succeed in litigation is also a generic statement โฎโฎโฎ.
The alleged reason shouldn't cheapen what was established. Instead, this should become the starting point to foster a culture of openness and curb our enthusiasm to create icons and gods
Along with AMS and KS, JG is also a regular for WB.
Btw, AMS gave a measly 1.5 cr from his MPLAD to NUJS when he got in with TMC support. Contrast that with his endowments to Jiggles. The less said about KS, the better. Barkha may still be willing to talk about it.
In fact, I am surprised that Sibal and Singhviโs share is 1/3. I would have thought it would have been 50% (although Mamata did gift Singhvi a Rajya Sabha seat from Bengal).
2. LNAT? There is still a lot that one can be critical of, as regards that: you don't give a benchmark of what kinds of scores you typically would want to see. And, unlike the British universities, you don't have a school board exams filter either, going with the 45% standard (as far as I remember) that other unis in India go with. Set the equivalent of an A Levels A* AA, which is a King's/UCL/LSE-kind of standard requirement, and the conversations will be very different among all but the most diehard haters (whose minds can anyway not be changed).
"A smart and hardworking person will still make a name for themselves especially in research irrespective of the university."
1. Definitely possible, for sure.
2. But also there is a chance that it may not end up happening. Bad environments do hold people back, you know...

I didn't get any acceptance for the winter internship(JAN-FEB), plus I want to pursue career in corporate preferably M&A or maybe something else. I'm very confused about what topics to explore what to do about all this I don't understand how to connect with people in this industry and I feel so unmotivated, everyone around me is bagging internships at either firms or under reputed AOR thru connections. Can Someone guide me a little, I feel very lost.

You too must.
The so called experts refered to above created the transformer model which is why chatgpt etc became relevant.
These guys are hype machines who have looked stupid in the last 3 years too with overpromises and all this to keep funding alive, the fear mongering is for investors the product will never be able to replace humans as Yann Lecun who is a turing award winner and head of the one company which does not use external funding for AI in META says AI can never actually replace humans.
The RBI in India also introduced the D-SIB framework in response to 2008 crisis.
We literally have banks and corporate holding companies that now cannot fail right here too.

I have been working for around a year now and have gained decent exposure to general corporate transactions. I initially started with a boutique law firm and am currently working at a consulting firm. However, I am keen on transitioning towards a more focused practice in M&A, Private Equity, and Venture Capital.
Despite consistent efforts, I havenโt been able to secure an opportunity in this field yet. I would be grateful if anyone could share any suitable openings or guidance on how to effectively make a shift into this area. I am open to working with boutique firms as long as the work primarily involves M&A, PE, and VC transactions, with the eventual goal of moving towards a Tier-1 firm.
Thanks
But again, depends.

So we need to give up the delusion of NUJS falling under a BJP regime. OVN will bow to the TMC, just like Bhat, Talukdar and NKC did. Even if the 1% chance of the BJP winning comes true, you will see the corrupt TMC elements at NUJS switch over to the BJP. So NUJS will be stuck with the same people.
