Hi all! Since I entered litigation, I never considered anything other than an AoR chamber (filing office) or a senior’s office. I’ve worked at both. But the going is tough. I wanted to know apart from the pay which may be slightly more, how is the work in itself different at pure litigation firms like Karanjawala, ALA?

There are also boutique dispute firms. I’m not able to make out the difference between chamber v litigation firms v dispute firms?

(Not including tier 1 firm disputes practice in this conversation)

I understand these firms don’t have a counsel practice as such, and are larger scale filing offices and act as solicitor firms? For example - do karanjawala partners appear in court ?

Apart from pay, how the is work, learning and eventual growth, benefits different? How to decide which one to pick?

But generally I’ve heard law firms do take some time to roll out an offer. But i guess a wait period of almost 6 months in my case was unusual.

Young and energetic team. Lot to learn. Since they are small, compensation may be not at par but enough to learn in a healthy environment. AZ has good law firm experience. Good for initial years of your career. They will encourage you to join bigger chamber or law firms if they see personal growth for you.

I have been offered an internship at both these firms. which one should I choose? I know on the fact of it LKS seems to be an obvious choice, but my topmost priority right now is to work with a firm with better chance of getting hired, and LKS does not have the best repute in that aspect.

Avoid Abhinav, Armaan, and Ayush’s team. They are known to be robots with zero empathy when it comes to work.

The AZB culture is deeply ingrained in a tier 3 pay grade, which is unacceptable. This is why no one stays, and those who do are treated poorly (I’ve personally seen this happen). They lack the ability to even communicate properly. Save yourself and consider your options if you have them.

People from generational wealth don't work at Indian law firms. It's simply not worth their time socially or economicaly. Infact only in very few cases children of senior partners join law firms (unless it is their family's firm, but even then numbers are dwindling). Law firm work, in most cases, is mind numbing, intellectually unchallenging and most importantly, extremely time consuming, none of which would attract those inheriting real wealth. Hence law firms are occupied by middle class people only, who try to show off their tiny money on random pseudo luxurious items (watches, cars, shoes, etc).
