Yes, I was fortunate to get into the Chambers of a good Senior, for the sake of anonymity I would not mention his name. I have friends who have managed to get into chambers of ASGs as well.

I think it helps if you have either briefed them before or interned with them at some point and done a good job.

I can't really help much but what I would suggest you do is go to Indian Kanoon and search for the names of these firms. Bombay High Court's orders and judgments do record the names of the firms by whom counsel are instructed to appear in a matter. Using Indian Kanoon in this manner to look up quality of the matters which these firms get would be tedious (and unrepresentative to a certain degree since not all disputes go to court), but it is the best that you can do in the absence of information from other sources.

BLR is pretty good with timelines and accepting actually good content. The reviews are quite well written aw. The editorial board last year was amazing (VT,PP,MK), and this year seems even more promising (VT,NA,SP,ON,ST,KA).

NLSIR is decent but they rarely reply back and take a lot of time.

IJLT's quality has gone down quite a lot lately.

NUJS law review is amazing wrt both quality and timelines, and quite a good editorial board aw.

Attention, lawyers of Delhi and Mumbai. I engaged a well-known South Delhi-based firm for an NCLT (Principal Bench) matter. The matter finished swiftly.

Imagine my surprise when I discovered that the same firm is now quietly acting for the opposite party in a connected NCLAT appeal, mere months later. Their attempt to stay invisible collapsed when their signature appeared in the comments of the appeal PDF. The filing is happening through another firm.

We often talk about ethics in the profession with reference to other states, but what do we call this—happening in the heart of Delhi’s legal circuit? Recommended by a family friend, no less. I’m beyond disappointed…..

PGCL anyday, the attendance criteria is not that strict therefor you get enough leeway to attend internships and learn valuably, the faculty is okayish except for 1-2 subjects, library and moot court is common with nmims, placement is decent enough no crowding like NMIMS where everyone is struggling for attendance. And, heard that AS Oka is joining them so its a big-big addition to their arsenal. and BCI accredition has been renewed after a lapse in re-registration. Everything at 1/5th the fees of NMIMS so overall a good choice

Not sure how long you've been in practice - evidently not very long. Foreign judges are frequently hosted by the SC and I've seen plenty of instances over the years where a visiting foreign judge has shared the CJI's bench as an observer (usually for 5-6 cases).

The foreign judges may have been visiting for another event and were invited to the swearing in as a courtesy. Not seen this before in my 2+ decades at the bar, but not all that surprised.

Hi all, need honest experiences, and idea about this.

I’m 27 and currently working as a Law Officer in a central government (posted in a PSU). I plan to leave this job soon and move to enter litigation and later prepare for the higher judiciary exams. I understand there are practice-period requirements for judicial elevation and that I’ll likely need several years of practice (around 7 years of meaningful litigation experience to be competitive for higher judiciary).

Questions I’d like real-life answers to:

1. Will resigning a central government post (to take up litigation) be viewed negatively when I later apply for the higher judiciary? Will it be held against me by selection committees or peers?

2. Are there examples of civil judges or High Court judges who started their careers as government servants (central/state/PSU) and later moved into litigation and were eventually elevated? If yes, please share names/timelines/links if possible.

3. Practical issues: did you face problems with seniority, credibility, client acquisition, or perceptions in court after switching from a government legal post to private practice? Any tips to smooth the transition?

4. Any advice on building a litigation profile while in a PSU role so the eventual transition and judiciary application won’t look weak?

I want actual people, at least those who closely observed it or know about such switch. Please mention state/High Court (if comfortable).

I have been working in Delhi for 3.5 years in a tier 1. The air and other conditions have time and again prompted me to go back to my tier 2 city. Any good tier 1/tier 2 firm teams or good in house roles that may hire a lateral remotely (GC/M&A). also, have already had a burn out so would die for a good balanced team. Please guide.
