Was the case earlier in Cal and Bom HCs, for both being a pleader there, and being an AOR there. For context, an AOR or someone who acts is someone who files, while a pleader is someone who argues. Before the Advocates Act of 1961, each HC through its state bar council would enroll lawyers (using a very generic term here) who would be qualified to only practice in that HC. To go to any other HC, they needed permission from that HC. This was usually granted.it was the case with SC as well, you had to be registered with them. They used to have a list of advocates entitled to practice there. All of this came from the Indian Bar Council Act of 1926. Before that, you had vakeels, pleaders, attorneys, solicitors, advocates, barristers, etc.

Cal and Bom Hc, in their OS, had an exam called the OS exam. This is what the BILS conducts today. Exam was to become an AOR in the OS. That made you an "attorney-at-law" and you would become a member of the ILS( there are two, one in calcutta, one in bombay, and the bombay one still conducts its exam to this day). With the AA 1961, all of this was removed vide an amendment around 1970. From then on, there were only advocates and these exams were not conducted. Cal Hc and Bom HC did away with it, but the BILS for its membership kept that exam. Its a shame the CILS did not.

The supreme court AoR system and their exam comes from this. Its called the dual system and you can read about it on the internet.

Today, to be an AOR in the OS for these two HCs, you just need to live within an area as determied by the HC/have your office there. For pleading, no such requirement is there. But yes, all the pleaders in the OS are instructed by the solicitors, ie the AoRs. So the dual system is still followed. You'll find an example in the Bom.HC OS orders in the appearance : Mr. Abc, a/w Ms. XYZ, i/b MNO law firm. Here the i/b stands for instructed by.

On a different note, with the Cal and Bom HCs being forced to do away with their OS AOR exams, its a shame and a hypocrisy the SC is allowes to keep their AOR exams. It should be done away too, or the HCs which had a OS exam should be able to conduct it like before. Mind you the HC OS exam was considered far more difficult than the SC AoR exam.

The best way is an LL.M. Leiden for Netherlands (offers great programs on privacy and AI), and there's great potential for jobs in the privacy space in NL. NL also offers some beneficial taxation for foreigners in the initial years. Germany - pick ILF or Bucerius, Hamburg. The pay and career progression in NL would be marginally better. Keep in mind ascending the career trajectory is tough, even for those obtaining dual qualification (UK and India). NL is also more comfortable with English - in Germany, there's heavy weightage on German (startup jobs like Delivery Hero may be an exception). Salaries will stagnate beyond a point, unless of course you choose to start a business :) Wish you the best.

I am searching for firms or places where I can get experience and work in the field of dispute resolution or white collar crimes- and by experience I mean work experience that will later on help me land a good job in this field. Any suggestions for where I could do an internship like this? I've applied to almost all Tier-1 firms for their dispute resolution departments and have acceptance for one of them. My man, please don't imitate the British on this. We know that the University of Lancaster, for example, is opening a campus in India. We also know that Lancaster ain't all that fantastic of a uni. Just because unis open campuses all over the world doesn't necessarily mean they are Harvards or Oxfords in the making. Sometimes, they do it for PR/other reasons of desperation. Why lancaster is opening in India is why NFSU is opening in Kazakhstan - to project an image of greatness to the world and to try boost themselves in global rankings.

NLUs have a huge teaching load. They also have a lot of admin work. Private has more support structures. NLUs also have some filthy competition because of faculty who are well settled there and dont enjoy new entrants. I ve seen few new professors being harassed by senior ones simply out of ego and insecurity. Everyone pushes work on tbe other. Also less freedom than privates. More permission for everything. Doing a phd full time and can see toxicity.

How much do seniors make yearly in smaller High Courts in Hilly states particularly J&K, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand as these states have low crime rate comparatively and work on the commercial side is also not that great.

This is the worst kind of money-grubbing wrapped in self-absorbed tragedy as if the working-class people have no loved ones and only we do. Luckily, my loved one was the sweetest, most generous soul imaginable. No one liked to see him suffer.
