One thing has been made abundantly clear in these protests: a large section of the students body are activists not trained in critical thinking. Any question on the veracity of the SC's order regarding the VC's CV was shot down dutifully by students before the protest by asking the sender to "read the room." After the GB was summarily humiliated by the GC and the gherao waiter out by NKC, some people finally raised the question of protesting without proof in today's GB meet.

GC had questioned why they were protesting based on a matter sub-judice and the students had no answers because they failed to even engage with this line of reasoning before deciding to protest. They tried to hastily cover-up by mentioning financial impropriety allegations, which students had no clue about to begin with. They only vaguely knew that some faculty had raised some questions on research grant fundings. The true and actual reason for the protest is the SC order against the VC which MOST PEOPLE DID NOT READ IN WHOLE even though it was some 20-odd paragraphs. They only read para 22 on directions wrt VC's CV which was forwarded on the campus whatsapp group.

Funnily most students were not able to realise how this incident showcases their serious lack of critical thinking skills, because of lack of the said critical thinking skills. Campus whatsapp group has become a battlefield where only a specific types of ideas are accepted. Sad to see future lawyers succumbing to this, although the saving grace remains that most of them would spend their lives in corporate hierarchies, sufficiently disconnected from the ground realities, for both their and other people's benefit. For people who might be entrusted to protect other people's free speech, they remain the most opposed to a marketpalce of ideas.

I agree. What good does resignation do? Destroy him socially with documentary evidence of wrongdoing. Prison time etc is for EC and courts to pursue because no one "useful" goes to prison. Just look at those named in the PN Sinha report. The prime accused kept getting fancy jobs with pvt institutions. Prison is so passe. NUJS rt now doesn't need a luminary. Often the operations are handled by acolytes who get away with a lot of wrongs just because they were wrapped in fancy degrees, urbane and suave communication etc. All great stuff. Since the SH matter is going back to SC and is unlikely to get resolved by the next EC (which the VC will cite and EC will accept to let him continue till Dec 31 and maybe till WB election is over) why isn't SJA coming clean on the 7 cr deficit? Deficit in itself isn't a crime unless it was caused by embezzlement etc. Just because a certain farcical conference cost Rs 40 lacs doesn't meant it was a scam. Also why is the SJA dishing out hearsay from faculty having chequered history of taking classes or misleading AC, FC and EC in the past. Valid point. Why don't you list out what a partner expects from an associate. Ideally you should set out the expectations but the expectations need to be objective. The parameters you have, to rate an associate to determine bonus payout would do but what does the team do, to prepare an associate to perform on those. Provide sufficient training but also allow for sufficient time for the associate to, settle down, learn the ways of the different partners in the same team, learn the ways of different clients who insist in being different or difficult, learn the eccentricity of each individual in the team. Having said that, my experience says that person learns faster and perform exponentially better when he or she feels valued, secure and happy (and not a target of random team politics). Therefore, be human and learn to emphatise (and stop being petty). That is one quality that is missing and one cannot blame workload for that because I have seen many great partners in law firms who remain human including Ravindra.

In your firm do you not have any performance parameters based on which associates are rated at the end of a FY. Even if the firm doesn't have, as a partner and as a manager you should have some performance parameters in mind which you should convey to associates fairly in advance so that they know the expectation. Problem is sometimes associate is judged on ad-hoc basis, depending upon convenience and whims and fancies of the partners.

Its not about working like a horse. It is also about enjoying the challenge. I am a 2024 graduate. All of my internships have been at litigation chambers mostly in Delhi. After graduation, I worked with an advocate for about an year. I am looking to shift to in-house roles. However, with no experience and no in-house internships, I am at a loss how to make in roads. Don't go for such practice areas. They don't have any meaningful work. All that you will be doing would be mindless doc review and DDs. You will have no application of your mind. There is no need to put yourself thru that. Better than that, find a chamber and intern there. You'd have a much better use of your mind there

Ideally, enroll for PhD and then start applying. Good colleges want you to at least be enrolled in a PhD program. Also, there are so many applicants - 1400 for 20 odd seats that people with a PhD get an automatic boost over the ones that don't. Then there are publications that you should have.

However, you can bypass some of this of you gave connections.

Any advice would be appreciated. The colleges in my city gove 20k ish only for temporary positions and dont hire for permanent ones.

Calcutta University, following complaints by students, has chargesheeted two teachers of the law department for coaching students privately. The authorities have also accused one of the teachers of furnishing false information about his career during appointment.

Recently, the authorities had chargesheeted the two teachers ? Nirmal Kanti Chakraborty and S.S. Chatterjee.

?I have not yet received any chargesheet. Naturally, I will not say anything about the so-called charges,? Chakraborty told Metro on Tuesday.

The inquiry committee also found that Chakraborty, in securing a job at the university, had given false statements regarding his stint at Hooghly Mohsin College.

A member of the Syndicate said Chakraborty had stated in his application that he had been a full-time teacher at the college. ?But inquiry revealed his statement to be absolutely false. His appointment was ad hoc and he was not a permanent teacher there.?

Chakraborty was appointed in the university?s law department in 1997. Next year, he was promoted to the post of reader and in 2003, he became the head of the department.

The university?s chargesheet against Chakraborty asked him to explain why he had misled the authorities by making false statements regarding his previous employment.
