if you see the pool of interns at s&r you'll know for yourself that it's not true. it survives almost exclusively on its relationship w nls which sends good crop there. but os that, most (if not all) interns are partner references and contact based. also, how rigorous can the process be if it involves only a round which is cv selection?

That's because unlike the lala houses they don't take anybody as an intern. TTA has a very extensive vac-scheme style questionnaire and very selective. S&R is harder to get into than the big 6 unless you have a very good CV. So in terms of % of interns hired, it may be higher. But also understand that the overall intern pool is much smaller and harder to get into and the overall A0 vacancies are lower. So my original point still stands.

PhD scholar here. Teaching at a CLAT coaching. Last three years... Vacancies for Assistant Professors are usually 2-3 wih reservation. That means either unreserved don't get a seat, or one of the reserved category doesn't get a seat. So if there are 2 vacancies, one general, one SC, that means no seat for OBC-ST-EWS. Applicants 200-300. That's the reality. And it's not that seats are not there. The local state university in my hometown has 15 vacancies , only 5 professor and 10 seats lying vacant. This isn't just academia. Judiciary, APO, etc all have that problem. Now go wider and you see this in all sectors of employment. The problem isn't there is no vacancies or seats, it's that those seats are not being filled. On top of it state exams happens far and few. Judiciary exams are happening once in three years and even they take 2 years to complete the entire process. UPSC civil services used to have 1200-1300 vacancies and now it doesn't go over 800. JAG used to take 10 vacancies for men and 5 for women. Now it's 3-4 for men and for women. APO exams haven't been conducted in 5 years in various states. Assistant professor exam in states are not being selected unless you were willing to pay lakhs behind the curtains/under the table. Meanwhile you have more and more graduates coming in and more and more people doing masters and PhD, not because of interest but because there's nothing else to do. Not everyone is selected in private, not everyone has a great CV, not everyone has the connections, not everyone has the reach. All they have is blind trust in their hardwork and the system.l, that's deceiving them. Also go check and compare how much of the gdp is actually being put in education and research. This whole system is bound to fail.

Being a fresh nalsar graduate, I can assure you that despite whatever protests these guys will do or support, most of the college is dominated by a very elitist segment who just assume that every hindi speaking person is a right wing villager. Atleast this is how they exclude them at almost every level. The metro city english speaking elite dominates the discourse and anyone from outside the circle has to imitate them in order to find a space somewhere. Dont know about other NLUs, but this is how it is in NALSAR. I don't know if this hypocrisy can ever be erased. Didn't see any ray of hope in my 5 years there.

A 6-hour fast (the news report actually calls it a one-meal fast) is hardly a fast. I'm a NALSAR alum and can tell you that the average gap between meals on campus is 4-5 hours - a 6 hour gap is hardly a "fast". So unless you have a medical condition that requires you to eat with shorter gaps, this "hunger strike" is perfunctory and a waste of time.

"T1 lawyers are the best lawyers in the country" is such a misleading statement in this context. They are the best at what they do and getting bail for people before a magistrate's court is certainly not what they do. By contrast, "your random run of the mill advocates" are used to doing this and are consequently quite skilled at it.

No, because most lawyers (other than Lords Neuberger of Abbotsbury, the former UK Supreme Court President, Lord Diplock, the judge famous for the 'illegality, irrationality, impropriety' test in English administrative law and Lord Denning) are not good at Maths or science. I thought this fact was established? (Lord Neuberger himself once said that if he were working in science, scientific progress would be going backward rather than forward!)

Pick a busy senior/chamber, lot of trial and error, but do it still, ensure they have different kind of matters. Speak to associates, figure out the culture, pay scale, upcoming future of chambers(whther the head is going to be designated or elevated) and then invest in staying there for more than a month. (Most chambers will be willing to consider you if they have a vacancy after a month of internship, provided you are diligent and have basic drafting and research skills and legal acumen.

It's there on their website only. NLSIR does not even reply if the piece doesn't pass initial screening. But others, like IJLT, typically do convey rejections within a couple of weeks. But read the submission guidelines individually for each blog, a lot of this information is available.

Talk to real people bruh...like the peers at your workplace, or school friends, if you have contact with them, even if not, drop the ego shield(if you have one, which I'm assuming not only), and contact them...just make real friends who are not on mobile screens, rather real...that's the only way out!!!

TL;DR: Won a prize internship at Dhir & Dhir Associates through a national essay competition RGNUL ran with them. Four months of emails, LinkedIn messages, calls and follow ups with the careers inbox, HR, associates, partners and the RGNUL student coordinators. Almost nothing back. When I finally reached a partner, an associate called me at 8 PM to shout at me for having gone to the partner, then said the internship would only be virtual. Still no dates, no offer letter, nothing in writing.

About four months ago I placed at a national essay writing competition RGNUL ran in collaboration with Dhir & Dhir Associates. The advertised prize was an internship at the firm. I am still waiting for it.

What I have done, roughly in order:

- emailed the firm's internship and careers inbox
- emailed HR
- messaged HR on LinkedIn
- emailed the responsible associate directly, short and polite
- called the firm and tried to get put through to the right person
- went back to the student coordinators at RGNUL who organised the competition

Response to nearly all of it: nothing. No dates, no confirmation, not even a rejection.

Eventually I connected with one of the partners and messaged them on Linkedin. To their credit they replied immediately and said an associate would call me that same day. They named the associate. No call came. At 5 PM I looked up the associate's number and called him myself. He picked up, said he would call back, and hung up.

He called at 8 PM and spent the call shouting at me for having contacted the partner. Not for getting anything wrong, just for escalating. I had already emailed him about this internship. I had emailed the careers inbox, HR, other associates and the RGNUL coordinators. Nobody took responsibility, which is exactly why I went to a partner, and the partner was the only person who actually replied. The associate then told me the firm only offers virtual internships and asked me to message him on WhatsApp. I did . This was about 2 weeks ago. Nothing concrete since.

So, four months in: no dates, no offer letter, and the only real interaction I have had with the firm was being shouted at for following up.

I am posting because prize internships are advertised as a genuine part of what you get for months of work on a submission. If the firm cannot or will not honour it, the organising college should say so upfront rather than leaving students chasing an inbox for a third of a year.

Has anyone else had a competition prize internship simply never materialise? Did putting it in writing to the college's committee get you anywhere, or is there any point escalating further?

Unfortunately, Sanjay Kumar and the partner under him have no direct interaction with interns and they rely on feedback from the associates alone when deciding on callback.
