We all would like a comfortable, retired life with at least 80% of the luxuries we get while working. But high income tax and inflation, along with zero government, social security benefits, makes it challenging to retire at 60. Senior advocates usually practice well into their 70s and 80s, but I guess law firm partners don’t do so?

I have a callback internship scheduled with a Tier-1 firm during the winter break, and I want to be seen as a genuine candidate by the team and be considered for a PPO.

I am from the 2027 batch at a Tier-2 NLU, have completed 3–4 solid internships, and while I am academically average, I have done well in debates and moots at both national and international levels. Well said! The key point I see here is that on this platform, there are a lot of ▮▮▮ full of dislike for anything that is non-NLU. Most here come from a humanities background, hence are skewed in favor of the BA-LLB programme. Thus, when they see a BBA-LLB programme that covers subject areas that are practically relevant and useful, in addition to law courses, they cannot stomach it. BA-LLB students have normalized useless humanities subjects along with law courses, and they think it is how every law degree should be. This stems from the fact that NLUs are law schools, with zero expertise in any other areas.

Here's to all here. The law education landscape is transforming at a very quick pace, and NLUs are not part of this new paradigm. They are mere onlookers in a perpetual state of denial.

Comparison of AIJS with IAS or other all India services are uncalled for given that AIJS has all along been envisaged only for appointments at the ADJ level. AIJS can only be compared with DHJS or other higher judicial services. If you want to compare it to IAS then it will be like a lateral entry into IAS directly at the Joint Secretary level. One can join an all India service or a central service even before 25. That'll never happen with AIJS in the form in which it has been envisaged or discussed.

Asking because names of law firm owners in India have come up in connection with the Augusta Westland defence scam (Gautam Khaitan arrested), Mahua Moitra Parliamentary breach of ethics scam (Shardul named by Hiranandani), Bengal coal scam (Aquilaw owner raided by ED) etc. Also, way back in the 1980s, India Today categorised Lalit Bhasin (then a Congress Party member, now with SILF) as a "lobbyist and influence peddler". He wrote a letter to the magazine blasting them and demanding an apology.

That's not the case. Like everywhere else - you have two kinds of partners - one, who come from old money, and two - the new money. of course, the latter would go for the higher end more showoff models. But that's not to say that the former would not go for the same. It also really depends on their wants. Even if they're earning in crores, say between 1-10cr, they'd still probably go for a skoda or an entry level bmw. as for senior advocates, i know of two, who make close to 100cr, one in delhi, and the other in calcutta, and they only have mercs which cost no more than 1cr. Then you have one famous senior advocate who has a ferrari. So yes, it more comes down to personal choices.

They seem to be rebuilding from scratch for the long term. They are not replacing mid and senior level people who have left, and are either bumping up juniors in the team or involving leaders from an adjacent practice to fill the void. Not sure how much you can expect to learn when there is limited guidance from people with on-ground experience in that practice.

The top 3 in NIRF are fine. It’s always the next tier that is debatable and controversial. But the NLSIU>NLUD>NALSAR supremacy is 100% accurate.

I agree with the shady journals part. clearly you have not looked at the Washington and Lee rankings. It does include indian journals. not many, but a few of them. The leadership of these NLUS could put int some efforts to get more Indian journals included or use thier frameworks to rank the indian journals.

Just wanted to discuss

I have experimented with a variety of AI and I am a bit disappointed with homegrown Legal AIs...

This is not about Harvey etc. which firms are buying but for individual use. I liked Jurisphere when I used the 1-day pass a few times but tbh the price tag is way too much now! (it's Rs. 2500 per month) They keep increasing price without improving the product! Not worth for an AI that is not 'perfect', far from it and very frustating at times and not surprising that the Tier-1 firms are not using it (No idea about Lucio however. Any reviews welcome)

ChatGPT Go is Rs. 400 per month (and most people are using ChatGPT for other things in their life aswell) and it does seem like a much better bargain. Some problem is present with EXTREMELY large attachments like paperbooks but apart from that it's working super well for drafting, summarizing, etc. Indian caselaw research is a bit weak but tbh that is solved with databases. Not like you can fully rely on any AI output.

I am a second-year law student, and I have been actively sending out internship applications to opportunities in Pune and Mumbai. I have past experience on working in Tax, Criminal law, Insolvency and bankruptcy (PPIRP & CIRP), Arbitration (Work contracts), CPC and due diligence. I have am interested in and have researched on IBC (Crossborder, PPIRP, Group Insolvency) and recently presented a paper on the same, and Data protection (only interested in, my course directly aligns with it and I am a techie so very interested - I really want to explore it).

I have applied to Mulla and Mulla and Crawford Bayley & Co. in Mumbai and in Pune I have applied to legalogic (wonderful people, really kind HR), SRB Ojas, Reddy and Reddy and Nehru & Co. (their internship email was not existing ;-;).

Kindly give me suggestions on where to apply, how to explore and how to apply to the places that you might be suggesting.

I am a second-year student, and I've been applying to multiple places. I have presented a paper on Insolvency and done some prior research on it. In addition to this, I am also interested in data protection law and compliance - I wish to intern at a place where the environment is conducive and I get to learn. Here's my recommendation as somebody who did an LLM abroad in 2024-25 (and absolutely loved the experience, found it useful and materially helpful for his career ambitions and would do it again in a heartbeat).

▮▮▮. Actually do some hard work on your own. Apply your brains yourself. Don't rely on anybody. The kinds of people whose help you want are largely con artists or scammers. They are no more than glorified paper pushers. Often, you get wrong advice from them or they give you false hope to try something which you'll regret later. I'm giving you this advice to save you time because, if you are remotely intelligent, you'd be able to figure this out yourself and would realise when you sat in front of somebody like this that they are no help at all and just glorified people with nothing better to do in life. Therefore, I hope this is helpful in saving you time. Just do the hard yards yourself. Trust me, if you are genuinely good, it works and you get to go to that good foreign uni.

PS: I understand this post may have been written in a hurry and therefore may have not been thought out very well, resulting in the poor wording, but there is a chance it could be something much worse. That is why I ask: moderators, seriously!? You are publishing a post which asks if people can be recommended who can "draft their SOPs and application essays"? So you are effectively publishing something that might be, I say might be, a carelessly worded request for help with something standard, but again might be a request to help with something dishonest and unethical? Okay, this comment raises another good point. What if an /OBC/ST candidate gets marks good enough to make it to the merit list, but is above the age limit for general category? Will that candidate now be considered as a merit candidate or reserved candidate? Because then it’s really unfair to the general category. If someone from a quota seat is being given a merit seat, despite being above the age limit for general category.

You are working at a top company and will receive various perks that you will not receive at a law firm. Also better work environment and a chance to interact with top professionals from other disciplines. You can also leverage your experience, do an MBA abroad.
