2023 batch - bumper hiring - look at old articles - 200 freshers joining

2024 batch - no slump - around 100 freshers (which is usual)

usual expectation is having 50-60 percent retention at the end of year 1 and 15-20 percent by end of year 2. But this expectation works out when the offers in the first place are made to top 10-15 rankers of a batch in top few NLUs. these kids ultimately have the risk taking ability, merit and qualifications for other things (LLM, Litigation, alternate careers). Not that other kids are not good, they just need to stay a little longer to shed the disadvantage that their lower rank/university puts them at in the eyes of those assessing.

Also biggest reason is an anticipation of market slowdown - I dont think (those familiar with numbers may elaborate since LI does not do the scoreboard anymore) it is happening but everybody is anticipating

ayooo- its just CAM. its a lala shop. there are better things to go after and aspire to. its okay to ask yourself what you couldve done better, but honestly rejections are part of your career. go distract yourself for a day or so and then make a plan for how you will bounce back. this isnt the lifeending thing youre making it out to be.

These offers will come and go, what matters is your perseverance and how you deal with these situations.

There are many ways to get to T1s, I'm sure you'll find yours.

On a different note, as some have pointed out already, CAM is particularly fixated on batch ranks, so not being among the Top 5/10 ranks of your college is kind of a deal-breaker for them, even with stellar internship performance and presentation reviews.

Additionally, it may help to reach out to your original reporting partner/team member (who gave you the PPO recommendation) and try to explain the present situation to them and ask if they could look into it or put in a word for you with HR. It's definitely a long shot, but one worth taking nonetheless.

Its a blessing in disguise. Don't join a law firm and become a glorified clerk doing clerical work which will pay you well initially but will never allow you to earn as much as an independent litigation lawyer after 20 years. You will rue the day you decided to join a firm. Get into litigation.

Very much needed. In fact, its sad that this system of attorneys and the exam in calcutta has been banned. These solicitors, after passing the exam, which is a rigorous exercise, learn alot. It allows them to learn alot and do alot more than other run of the mill AORs atleast in the original side. Their training speaks of their work ethic. Its utterly sad that the system bas been discontinued in calcutta and there are no such exams there. The quality of solicitors has fallen. Added benefit ofc is you become an AoR in SC.

Think of it as a prelude to full blown work life that far surpasses any internship you can do. You sign your Articles while in law school and work for 3 years. You take 9 months off to give this extraordinarily rigorous exam. Even if you fail - the intense learning stands you in excellent stead. And thereafter, you are a solicitor. You are part of an elite group of advocates which helps quite immensely in the one aspect that is fundamental to the profession - clients, culture and social circles. It's something you do for personal fulfilment more than anything else. Hope this helps.

Senior partners are nice and work hard. There are 4 SAs, some do their work well, ▮▮▮. There are too many associates, and promotions are unclear. Most associates just try to please seniors. Nobody shouts in the team, but the culture is very passive aggressive, not only from seniors but also among peers. There are hierarchy problems that cause resentment, not just between partners and juniors, but also within the same level. “You scratch my back and I yours” culture. Team is too big, and because of that the chain of command often gets missed during staffing.Work is fine. Amazon is a big client, but they have other clients too.

Is that so? Compare the earningsof the top litigation lawyers andtop law firm partners. Top litigation lawyers earn anywhere between 100-600cr a year. Law firm.partners? No one takes away even 100 cr. Thats the same for even mid level and low level top litigaion lawyers v. Law fir partners. Now who is earning peanuts throughout their life? In litigation, you age like wine and keep charging more as you age. Something you can't do in law firms unless your name is on the wall. If your name is not on the wall, regardless of whether you are a partner, you'll still be an employee

You are correct. I'll add to it. In 10-20 years of you passing out, you'd have become a partner. An equity partner perhaps. At a firm where you are just a partner, and your name isn't on the wall. You may bring in 10-20cr a year, but you'll have to bring in atleast 2-3x the revenue to take away that. Next, you may bill your clients heavily, but as you age, for the same work, you'll charge more and more. The same work can be done by some junior partner for a lesser fee. There goes a few clients (though you'll retain a majority of them). Picture this: you are in your 40s/50s. Your kids are settled. You earn decently (10-20cr) in tosay's money. But, your counterparts in litigation - who do all sorts of works and go to court and argue, and don't do clerical work like you- the ones who have become successful - would be earning atleast twice of what you are. And as they grow, they'll earn even more. Compare the earnings of the top litigators and the top law firm partners. You'll see the former outearns the latter in a ratio of anywhere between 6:1 to 3:1. And its the same for mid and C- level top lawyers.

I feel sad for the NUJS VC even if his extension comes to an end and he moves on.

He should have got a chance to prove that he is not guilty instead of having to carry these allegations on his CVIf the SC bench was so intent on providing justice then they should have allowed an investigation instead of this order which actually hints at the accused being guilty. Even people who commit murder or graver crimes serve their sentence and then move on with their life.

How can this be a solution for allegations to be kept in memory forever( by symbolically inserting it in the Resume/ CV)as something which should never be forgotten .

First decade of NUJS, no SH complaints. From 2012 onwards barrage of formal complaints by staff and faculty and serious allegations of student complaints being hushed up. Despite all his shenanigans, Lord Taluk promptly acted on SJA complaint against a senior faculty who was heading the ICC then and cut her tenure short.

Even after this stinger from SC, the VC is trying to frustrate the ICC. What is the SJA doing? Sold out, arm twisted?

As usual faculty and staff are waiting to hitch a ride on student protests, which is not going to happen. VC knows how to divide and conquer. He recently did it in a staff meeting

True. But ABP online did a report belatedly. Not sure if the news channels beard anything. But TT and TOI are already part of regime friendly pack here. Rest are part of the regime anyway. Interestingly the media had lapped up the SJA resolution in May 2024 and later when Cal HC decided in favour of VC in Dec 2024. Guess they were all plants then.

sorry but these are weird and not typical questions to be asked from a corporate law perspective, even if you're a fresher. Considering you have also done CS, they should have asked more of company law basics, MCA/ SEBI compliances and depending upon prior experience, some transactions basics. This seems more like a team working on WTO stuff than a transactional corporate team.

If you're getting a regular salary income, then you cannot claim presumptive income for income received from professional/other sources.

You may do either, but occasionally the IT authorities question a filing if the other sources income is too high. Then you'll have to show it as business/professional income, file ITR 3, provide bank balance details etc. Try filing ITR 1 first as income from other sources. If it works, then great.

Retain engagement letter, communication, expenses proof like flight tickets (if you're claiming any).

I recently graduated from Faculty of Law, University of Delhi (Law Centre-II, 2025), but despite applying widely to firms, in-house teams, and even startups, I’ve not been able to secure either a full-time role or even an assessment internship.

1. Most firms seem to hire a year in advance.
2. I don’t have PQE yet, so many entry-level roles get closed off.
3. I’m considering independent counsels, but long-term I want to work at a law firm.

My questions:

- How can a fresher like me realistically break into arbitration/corporate law firms now?
- Are independent counsels a good path to eventually move to firms?
- What can I do in the next 2–3 months to make myself employable (courses, networking, writing, etc.)?

Interned with one of the lit teams at the end of 9th sem (December). Received callback recommendation. Did call back in March 2025 (10th sem). Received PPO rec (confirmed by both PAs). They asked for my resume and cover letter as being called for by the Partners. Radio silence since. It seems like it’s up to the team and their needs / vacancies etc.

Hey BO25, that may have unfortunately been the quality of work. I started in my 9th sem (July) and have gotten a callback in the same semester (August), with an interview in hand at the moment. So OP as long as you're doing good work and interacting with the team positively, I don't see why you won't get a callback. Offers are usually subject to vacancy, but if you do good work, and the team recommends you, your partner can make an exemption.

They will low ball as you as much as possible. I know freshers who were maing 50k a month in mumbai QP office and A2s who were making 80k approx in hand. My flatmate worked there. You have to negotiate really hard, they lowball like crazy. ▮▮▮ the partner who sits in Mumbai and administers leaves is really stingy with leaves. ▮▮▮

Now the pros: Work is really great, you will learn a lot. ▮▮▮

Nothing to do with politically motivated counsel. Have never seen Dr. AMS making political points. And even Dave for all his aggressiveness, hasn't been in any party as such. Same goes for others. Was that a pertinent comment, I would think not. Was it unusual or dramatic, definitely not.

I am seeking assistance as I want to shift from a boutique corporate firm to a tier-1/tier-2 firm. I have 3+years PQE working in the corporate law practice at a boutique firm. While the firm I am working at has good culture, work environment, etc. I am lookin to make a switch as the firm is not offering the exposure I had expected. While I think I am doing good at the current firm as I was promoted to SA before even having completed 3 years PQE, I wish to work on more challenging and interesting matters. However, I do not come from NLU background and as I said, I am working at a boutique firm. I need guidance on whether it is possible for me to switch to tier-1/tier-2 firm and how to really go about it.

The ▮▮▮ batch was worse. Someone actively spread rumours about a certain individual because he had defeated another guy in a committee election earlier. The hatred did not stop there; people tried to file a grievance against his election even after he won the election. Post the elections, they tried to malign his image through confession pages. That's how toxic the batch of ▮▮▮ is.

Hi there...so Deloitte is coming for the Campus Recruitment in Symbiosis Law School, Pune. They are offering a fixed pay of 6,00,000 and in total nearby 7,60,000. After adding some allowances the final would be between 8-9 lpa. Shall I go for it. I was very confused as I was having a call back internship next month from a well reputed Tier-2 firm. I don't mind joining in-house at the initial period of my legal journey. But I wanted to know whether this opportunity is worth considering or not. Let me know please any insights would be fruitful.
