Hi, I’m a 5th law student and as the time of graduation is approaching i’m getting more nervous about my future job. I’ve done quite few internships in IPR whereas i haven’t done any in corporate. I like IPR as my option but since i haven’t tried corporate I’m worried that i might regret it in future. What should i do about it. I still have some time to figure it out but yeah time is less and I have to figure it all out soon enough

The compensation was = 14 (fixed) + 3 bonus + annual group health insurance. They recently hired 4 people in day zero from a well known t1 NLU, among which is one of my close friend and I have seen the offer letter.

GNLU has secured 40 PPOs and 30 offers on Day Z (with 1 additional offer after Day Z), bringing the total to 70 offers. You shouldn't be holding on to so much frustration for being rejected when you were a referral candidate. If you had applied on merit and been rejected, then the anguish would be justified.

Referrals are generally looked down upon in SCAM, and now SAM has even made a hierarchy of internship timelines (4 weeks>3 weeks>2 weeks) where even if you did get the internship through the referral, you would only be in for 2 weeks. Not only is that lower than the stipulated internship period by the BCI, it also leaves a bad impression in the team you're working with cause you get labelled immediately, and amongst your co-interns as well. So don't be too frustrated since not much would come out of the internship other than just an addition to your resume.

Smarter thing to do would have been to ask for feedback. Why did they reject you? Any chance they could give you reasons? What could you improve on your application for next time? That sort of thing. Forces them to stop being a bunch of lazy buggers. At least when the British reject someone from something, whether it's a training contract/law firm position application, a university application for a degree course of some kind or whatever, they have a standard almost save-get type of thing (if they don't wanna give feedback) which they use, that runs along the lines of: we had so many awesome applicants who were just so bloody over-qualified, we just didn't know what the heck to do with all of them; there are more over-qualified applicants in the talent pool than places on this training contract/vac scheme cohort/university degree/pupillage cohort at a particular chambers; you, too, were hugely qualified, but perhaps not as overqualified as some of the people who applied. Even giving that requires a level of hard work, because while most of that is usually included in a standard British rejection, they do sometimes exclude some of it or put some other things in, to give a hint, if they are trying to put off requests for more detailed feedback. If S/CAM HR isn't even doing that, then get them to do it or do something, at the very least!

And how do you know this person wants to go into that career? What if they want to be a barrister or an academic? You clearly haven't learned to appreciate multiple possibilities or nuances in life. Which uni trained you to be a lawyer: the one that everyone decided to flush down the toilet?

Bhai I'm tired of saying this on every post/comment about foreign firms but as someone with a top 5 rank from a T1 NLU, foreign firms don't just take you if you have that + participation certificates. You need to have WON or come runners-up in international moots/ADRs if you're applying directly. If they come to your campus like Linklaters comes to a few of our colleges for its Singapore office, that's a slightly different story

What's the use of being the second oldest NLU in the country with so many "star" alumni in corporate law firms if this place can't even get half the kids placed? Seriously, what the hell is wrong with NLIU? Do their own alums themselves rate their alma mater so low that they don't even recruit from there? I'm genuinely asking.

The Supreme Court's sweeping order to remove all stray dogs from Delhi and the adjoining National Capital Region (NCR) has drawn a response from animal rights groups, with PETA warning that large-scale displacement is both "unscientific" and ineffective.

The top court today directed the Delhi government and civic bodies in Gurugram, Noida and Ghaziabad to begin immediate removal of stray dogs from all localities and house them in shelters, saying the animals must not be returned to the streets.

PETA India's Senior Director of Veterinary Affairs, Dr Mini Aravindan, issued a statement questioning the effectiveness of mass removal.

"Communities think of neighbourhood dogs as family, and the displacement and jailing of dogs is not scientific and has NEVER worked. Per a population survey conducted in 2022-23, Delhi has around 10 lakh community dogs, with less than half sterilised. Forced removal of some 10 lakh community dogs from Delhi's streets will cause uproar in communities that care deeply for them and chaos and suffering for the dogs on a large scale. It will also ultimately do nothing to curb the dog population, reduce rabies or prevent dog bite incidents," the statement read.

Start with picking up basic drafts of SHA, SPA, SSA etc. Try and understand the meaning of the terms used therein. Pick up drafts of basic contracts and start marking them up from a party's perspective. Go through important sections of companies act 42, 62 etc. But first and foremost - START READING. Vikram's team from JSA is good but it will depend upon which partner you get to work with, some partners like Akshay are good to work with while other partners either don't have that much work of their own / or are just toxic. Bir's team (who is now an EP) is a BIG NO. JSA overall has a very suck-up culture, so be prepared.

25 PQE. Mix of in-house and private practice, both in India and overseas. Liquid NW of around 17 cr. 50% share in property (non primary residence) of around 6.50 cr., bringing my total own NW to around 23.50 cr. they are all relatively easy considering attrition, This isn't judgement cause you have still got an internship at trilegal which is not a small feat but please think twice about their funds team, people resigning in 2 days and near 100% attrition of freshers does not happen because of a small reason and if you think you are desperate for a job and will hack it out, well a lot of people who left thought of the same thing, its better to be unemployed or at a lower end firm as a fresh graduate then fired and laid off or resigning weeks into your first job, that is worse.
