As an in-house counsel I do not agree that all clients demand all nighters and 24X7 availability. in fact, it is to the contrary for most clients. We do not want stretched / busy / overworked teams. We want attention to detail and senior level attention. Very often we do not give a second deal / assignment to the same team as is working on our first assignment for this reason. The trouble is perhaps that partners are not allowed to say no to work when they know about their stretched bandwidth.

One thing I hate about these partners or seniors is - Fake Corporate Emergency.
To all the partners and other senior designated people out there - don't rush your teammates for a task that has no nearby deadline. It just creates unnecessary panic and a drop in the quality of work.
If the deadline is not anytime soon, then at least provide a reasonable buffer for handling the task.

If a candidate who has filled form under SC Category, then he can be treated as General if he is in merit and if he has not taken any concession available for SC Candidate [like Free form, Age Relaxation, Number of Attempts, Minimum Marks in 12th].

So, in order to reach in General Category, not only you have to be in Merit of General you should have all other qualifications for General category like Age/Fees/Min. Marks/Max. Attempts. Etc.

If an SC-ST person voluntarily gives up quota and competes in the merit list, only then are you excluded from reservation. Else you are eligible in both categories.

But let's be frank: only relatively few SC-ST candidates have made it to the CLAT merit list historically, hence they require the assistance of reservation. So the overall SC-ST percentage does not change much with this dual categorisation.

Really? It makes no sense. If an SC candidate makes it to the merit list and you admit him as a merit list candidate and take an extra SC candidate, then you are effectively exceeding the quota. That is extremely unfair to general category students!

I believe they would admit on the basis of quota selected while submitting forms. So if you select merit, you will get a merit seat. If you select SC, you'll get SC seat. I am covered under multiple quota but I applied for merit seat (since realised late about quota) and got in a merit seat.

How will tech research score points for the law school? You have got no understanding of the way NIRF works. IIT KGP takes on many full time PhD scholars and they are required to publish at least one SCOPUS/WOS indexed paper every year, which gets counted towards the institutional output. Nothing prevents the NLUs from doing that.

1. Why would anyone hire such VCs? Such VCs are likely to go against the respective State government.

2. Where is the money for such hiring? NLSIU could build because it gets a lot of money from distance learning and consultancies it does for various central government institutions. Eg: It trains IRS and ICLS officers.

Guys, the difference between the top few colleges isn’t much. NLSIU is definitely beatable. All other colleges need is a good VC who will recruit alumni as faculty, plus other good faculty who may have studied in other places like GLC or DU or Symbiosis. Trust me, NLSIU will fall behind then. As it is, the 5 year batch hasn’t got the Rhodes in almost 10 years now.

I complained about the comment as trollish. Year after year, NLUD has been ranked second in NIRF and the college is undoubtedly superior to NUJS and GNLU. Is it superior to NALSAR? You could say yes, because the current VC at NALSAR isn’t great and there has been a faculty exodus. Also, Delhi has other advantages that other colleges simply can’t beat. Then, of course, you have NALSAR falling to the disease of populist politics and reservation.

IIT KGP is doing shameless jugaad. They are trying to pass off work by STEM departments as their own work. What happens is that very often projects given to STEM departments have the law school as an affiliated partner, because of minor inputs on regulation (eg a project handled by the department of Ocean Engineering may require minor inputs summarising environmental laws on marine life).

Let me repeat: Sudhir is not corrupt and he has done an excellent job in NLU alumni faculty recruitment. In comparison, certain VCs have brazenly stolen money and hired their stooges from mediocre colleges. Have you learnt nothing from the student protests that took place pre-Covid across NLUs?

No it's not. the chaps there do publish legal stuff, but not so much in the top law journals. they target scopus journals, which is what NIRF counts. if our NLU VCs were worth anything they should be lobbying to get this changed. there are much better indices tailor cut for the legal discipline.

What research is any of the NLUs actually doing? Like NLS last and this year has inducted only one PhD scholar from around 80+ who applied. I can understand maintaining a standard, but only one ? Really ? I wouldn't believe that they did not have atleast 4-5 deserving candidates. Moreover what global research is actually being published by scholars, both PhD and Faculty?

I'm a 25 year old woman working as an Associate (A2 level) at a top Law Firm earning about 16 Lakhs per annum. I had very little exposure to Corp law in my last law firm which is why I quit. I got my current job on the basis of a contact. It's been several months since I joined but I'm barely getting any work. Others have work but I don't. To be honest, even when I ask seniors for feedback or why I'm getting less work nobody criticises me or says it has anything to do with my work. I feel hard done by because I feel people at this firm haven't even given me enough opportunities to show myself. For my experience I have very limited exposure.

Question : 1. What should I feel about my situation ? 2. How common is this amongst people my age 3. What should I do ?

Ok let me tell you this - people are giving solutions that have no relevance in at least today's 2025 era. They might have used to work in the past, but not anymore.
1. Connecting with alumni - one of the most generalised advise ever. First of all an alumnus would not give a two cents ***K if he or she doesn't know you on a personal level. The majority of the alumni won't even care to raise a finger for you. It's very rare one of alumni would care to go a certain length for you. Rest won't care. The biggest myth of connecting to alumni gets you a reference or lead.
2. Networking - To all the future soon-to-be-graduates and the new joinees to law schools, kindly keep your egos and fear aside and talk and bond with your fellow seniors. They will be the ones to save you when you graduate (when you dont have a job in hand)
3. Applying to 100s of law firms - the hiring landscape has been dangerously transitioning from fresher hiring to giving out PPOs. Why this is happening, and who came up with this idea, no one knows. Entry-level associate positions now require at least 6 months of experience. This is how the job market has been. And it's really saddening.

Best course of action - Don't lose hope. No matter what happens, the sun will rise in the morning.

Its very good at present as the markets are at all time high. Each deal gets the firm 1.5 to 2.5 crores and the team does around 30-35 deals a year. So its a collective bill share of 60 crores for 40 people. A2-SA can makes anywhere between 8 lakhs to 16 lakhs just on bill share.

Hey, I had the chance of interning there around 2018. Mr. Himanshu Kane is an IP legend and during my time there I had noticed a lot of work around TM prosecution and filing. I learnt how to work around the TM filing website. It was a good experience, but in terms of weightage on resume, there is name but if you can try for Remfry, Anand, Saikrishna, Fidus. I am not discouraging you, it's definitely worth the experience. It’s a small firm, you will learn a lot if you show initiation and effort.

Today is teacher's day. A day meant to celebrate scholarship. Yet, I feel totally empty from inside as a scholar.

- PhD is at a crucial juncture. 3 years later, the uni has asked me to rework on the proposal again.

- Papers stuck in the review cycle while others publish 2-3 papers.

- Working at a private uni in a research role. Every application to the uni I'm doing PhD results in failure. Every application to a half decent plance also results in no response, reminding me of my UG days. I've even stopped applying.

Overall, it feels I'm stuck in a rut. Leaving academia is also not possible without generational wealth.

There are things that Sudhir is against. But they have implemented a few things fortunately.
