At the risk of being cancelled by feminists, let me lay out some brutal truths for the ladies:

- Working as a law firm associate or litigator sucks out your energy and time

- If you aren't seeing anyone and want a husband through a non-arranged marriage, best to go into a less demanding job like in-house counsel or academia.

- Yes, that may mean that your husband will earn more and you'll be the junior breadwinner

Last time AG Kishore Datta carried out the appointment when Cal HC CJ Radhakrishnan (originally from the Kerala HC) had retired and a local judge from Cal was appointed acting CJ for two months. The appointment was carried out when the students (who had petitioned the CJI and requested for a transparent appointment based on merit) were on summer vacation.

This time, CJ Sivagnanam (originally from the Madras HC) will retire on 16 September. It looks like Justice Soumen Sen (second-most senior judge) will be acting CJ. As Kishore Datta is again AG, IF history repeats itself then he should logically carry out the appointment during this period. No summer vacation for the students, but a Durga Puja vacation that's long enough.

Incidentally, a serious allegation was made against Justice Soumen Sen last year, which was reported in all the papers. See below. Justice had also directed to be transferred to the Orissa High Court a long time ago, but that has still not been implemented

"Justice Abhijit Gangopadhyay of the Calcutta High Court has passed a judicial order, alleging that Justice Soumen Sen directed Justice Amrita Sinha not to pass adverse orders against Trinamool Congress leader Abhishek Banerjee.

Justice Gangopadhyay claimed in the order passed on Thursday night that Justice Sinha had informed him on a phone call that Justice Sen asked her to come to his chamber before the winter vacation.

As per the order, Justice Sinha informed Justice Gangopadhyay that Justice Sen called her in his chamber on the last day before vacation and like a political leader, he dictated Justice Sinha three things:-

i) Mr. Avishek Banerjee has a political future, he should not be disturbed.

ii) Live-streaming shall be stopped in Justice Amrita Sinha’s court.

iii) The two writ petitions before Justice Amrita Sinha, where the name of Mr. Avishek Banerjee is involved, are to be dismissed, it added.

Justice Sinha informed the Chief Justice of the High Court about this, who in turn intimated the Chief Justice of India.

The judicial order further accused Justice Sen of working for the ruling Trinamool Congress. It said that Justice Sen was acting clearly for some political party in the State and therefore, the orders passed in the matters involving the State, were required to be relooked if the Supreme Court thought so."

I think their credibility speaks for itself — the fact that some of the folks from Vritti went on to join top-tier firms like Khaitan, CAM, and JSA is no small thing. That kind of trajectory doesn't just happen; it reflects the quality of work, training, and exposure they received. In many ways, that alone answers your second question more clearly than anything else could.

Banning AI would be just like digging our own grave, all the other major international players are constantly upgrading and improving their models of AI and at the same time we cannot talk about banning it, because if we ban it, it is not going to stop their progress but just make sure that we remain a third world country (it is just like them having a nuke while we are nuke less, if we don't have leverage over them, we might as well lose our existence), so instead of banning AI, we must look into avenues as to how to develop an indigenous version of it, with regards to job losses, tbh it is inevitable, I fear with such a mass swathe of unproductive population, the top 1 percent elite might think of mass eradication of populous, which is highly possible, we need to think of measures to stop this, but tbh I cannot see any, it is just a vicious cycle with no sustainable and practical solution at least in the foreseeable future.

We aren’t a country with such little a population that we can have universal income like Switzerland or even a manufacturing heavy country. We as a country are HEAVILY reliant on Jobs. The middle class will be eradicated if jobs keep going like this. Thankfully mass pressure can be exhibited on our government to ban AI from the subcontinent. Why aren’t we doing it though?

Bombay briefings typically happen post 5:30(similar to other HCs and SC) and go on till 7:30-8pm for most commercial/civil side senior counsels. Juniors also typically end up early and most chambers are shut by 8:30-9pm. Of course, depending on the matter, work may go on but briefings in Bombay are usually reserved either for morning 8:30 am sessions or evening 6:30 pm sessions. Chamber work, filing, drafting, documentation etc. all finishes up much earlier than Delhi folks.

OP here. The reason is simple. Law firms are a pyramid. A law firm can’t simply afford to have every associate keep on progressing to higher and higher levels. This is especially true in India where the legal market hasn’t grown to the extent expected and there’s increased competition from smaller firms. 2 out of 10 freshers remaining after 6-7 years is probably an optimum outcome for a firm.

Hi, I'm an inhouse counsel, worked for about two years now. I'm looking to move to proper Litigation in Mumbai. I need names of some Seniors both designated and non-designated ones who l:

1. Are known decent to great mentors

(This can be fundamental in starting a career in Litigation)

(Ik no one has time, but some people are generally better mentors, so please suggest those name.

2. Can pay decent

(Good enough to survive decently and probably save a bit)

3. Aren't too old but ones who actually have good work coming and need to actually delegate work to juniors

(To not care about the practice anymore as their practice is on auto pilot)

(Not someone who's juniors aren't just checking boards for them, and going to Courts with them but someone who's juniors are actually involved in the day to day litigation)

P.s. I have done substantial research online and during my college intership, and I know few known common name of seniors so please suggest names you had good experience with based on your own practice please.

If you fall in this category, you should stay in India. If not, you should go abroad.

If you are in Delhi get the suit tailored from Vaish at Rivoli (at CP) or Grover Bespoke (Khan Market) You would get a good suit in under 50k - don't cheap out on the suit - go for a full canvas construction.

Formal Shoes - go for a pair of black cap toe oxfords with goodyear welted construction NOTHING ELSE this is a wardrobe staple for any lawyer, or in fact any gentleman - don't go for derbys or brouges don't get any other colour. and Brands - I think Meermin is good around 16k onwards
Shirts - either go Bombay Shirt Company or go for Grover Bespoke (starts from 3.5k) very good bespoke shirts.

50k for suit + 12-15k for shirts + 16-20 k for shoes = still leaves; still leaves more than 50k for watch - get a seiko presage or tissot dress watch - do NOT buy a diver's watch.

Delhi and Delhi NCR are preferable since it's cheaper as compared to Mumbai, but for a good firm, I am willing to do Mumbai or practically anywhere... needs to be something good for my resume. Willing to do under chambers of Advocates who regularly handle Arbitration matters, but I am having trouble finding ways to apply

Hey, you seem genuine. Given that you have participated in multiple arbitration moots, I am sure you must have networked with some judges there. That is your golden ticket - do not hesitate to contact them. If you have won a moot, nothing like it. Highlight it in your application, and be specific about which particular issue you enjoyed working on the most. They will certainly appreciate your interest even as a third year.

Also, along with this, make a tracker and list of 100 disputes partners (refer to Chambers and Partners website, then check their individual profile on the firm website) at various T1-T3 law firms, and send out at least 100 personalised cold emails. I mean 100, literally. Specifically target university alums, if you can. Keep the subject very brief, include your CV, and make a strong case to open your CV in four lines in the body. Ask if anyone from your previous internships can recommend you. Do all of this before the first week of August.

On a side note, please don't read blogs to have better 'knowledge of law' than NLU seniors. Do it to develop a sense of how arbitration law evolves and applies. When you get a very specific research proposition (as you surely will), your senior won't give two hoots about your 'knowledge'. They will need research, ASAP. A sense of the domain will inform you as to where not to look, and which cases . That is more important.
