Bar council is already over burdened with no time for legal education . Many times people would have tried to complaint to bci about their own college standard but nothing happens . Better would be to approach ugc, or ur state higher education regulator through email .or the Chancellor of univ if it is governor .read the act establishing your uni.

So, I joined as an A0 with their Capital Markets team in Delhi. It’s one of the Lala firms. At times I feel lost as the deliverables take time and I am finding it difficult to keep up. Any help and guidance would be appreciated , in terms of reading material and things to keep in mind, tips & tricks. Basically things that would help me grow in this profession.

I was not saying to completely do away with classes. But classes, after a point, become less relevant. 4th year and 5th year can be devoted particially to apprenticeship and partiallly to a few subjects. I vhecked the British system, they do have a 3 year law degree and a professional education after that. Ideally, our 5 year course can easily apply that but all of the 5 years are spent on campus.

As an author of this thread, love how we finally got a place to discuss everything relevant about this hyped college in bangalore's legal circuits, although they have such over powered personalities studying here, they couldnt capitalise much onto the opportunites and their early presence since 1995, feel gutted and frsutrated being in final year :(, and they behave in a way wherein everything will be served to our plate after final year and no internship and merit culture promoted in college at all.

Next year I will finish llm, my goal is teaching, I have two options, start phd or start teaching as assistant professor and do phd part time or later in life. I am trying to understand which will be better. Also preparing for ugc net jrf, so trying to understand is jrf even worth it ?

Stop the unnecessary idealism. Make use of your privilege. Do good with it for society if you have qualms. But if not you, someone else using their privilege will get ahead. And then what they do with that privilege - self-gain or societal value - is not in your hands. So use the privilege. And then do good.

It is not "stress free". If judges did not take any stress (considering how important their job is in a society), we'd be screwed. Also stress can be varying through the course of one's job, across postings and age/experience. It can also be good stress i.e. motivation to do one's best. It's about perspective.

At present, all senior DJS and all DHJS have accommodation. Earlier judges were allotted housing during training itself.

The problem has arisen with the last three batches of judges. The appointment has been done in high numbers since 2018-2019, without, any construction of houses (or court complexes for that matter). Delhi, in view of its population, needs even more judges, which is why the HC is regularly appointing more judges- but the infrastructure for the new officers is in the hands of executive i.e. delhi govt, and not the HC. There is a clear lack of coordination between the government and the HC. Currently, there are writ petitions ongoing before the HC regarding lack of accomodation, the fruits of which can be seen only in the next 3-4 years.

Having said that - once you get an accommodation, after a few years of waiting, you have it till you turn 60. So it really is a matter of time only.

how easy would it be to get back into the field after working for 1 year with somebody who has gone independent? like many people from smaller colleges/unknown colleges (no offence) make there way into the field. so like is like too improbable or what?

i have seen people working with someone in chambers and then moving to corporate or in house? like they do it so we can too, right? i mean that one year of work ex could be our reset??? or are we doomed??

I read that english lawyers working in American based law firms earn between 150000 to 179000 pounds per year after trainee contracts but barristers after their pupillage in top commerical chambers like one essex earn around 360000 pounds in their first year and 475000 pounds in their second year what's the reality? Does this mean that top King 's counsel would easily earn 15 to 20 million pounds every year ?

It’s high time we have a policy of one family one reservation, plus one life one reservation, plus rural-first reservation. It means:

- if one of your parents obtained a job through reservation, you should not be allowed to avail of reservation. Otherwise, children of IAS officers will monopolise jobs, instead of poor people in rural areas (from the same community).

- you can only exercise a shot at reservation once. For example if you enter NLSIU using reservation, you cannot use it again to apply for government jobs.

- reservation should be given to urban citizens only if no rural citizen has applied for the same slot.

These policies will maximise the benefits of reservation among such communities.

Yeah. This happens. You just have it backwards. SoBo is densely populated by Marwaris - Gujuratis. Mumbai T1 is mostly Marwaris - Gujuratis fare. Those aligned or allied with them succeed.

You can confirm this exercise by taking a mental asesssment of fee earners and administrative staff in your firm. You will see the administrative staff is largely Maharashtran whereas fee earners are Marwaris and Gujaratis.

See how things change but remain the same despite the firms sending rainbow adorned emails and making claims of becoming less of a boys club and valuing diversity? The real issues don't crop up in culture debates.

Now there will be some pointed exceptions perhaps here and there. There will be reasons for it. But the river largely flows in one direction. Why? Guess what is the profile of clients. Yes, you guessed it - its Marwaris and Gujaratis.

Now you may argue saying there are a lot of international institutions. But who are the folks manning the international institutions here. This business is a relationship business. Clients want familiarity as familiarity breeds trust.

What you do get in Bombay over Delhi is a lot more client facing roles. By not being one of the Mr Jains or Mr Shahs or Mehtas you actually stand out. If you get a chance to be in the room in the first place.

So little point in complaining. The odds you face are the odds you face. The smart thing to do is to figure out how to align with them carefully. Also, be careful - you maybe blind to some of Delhi's own biases. Delhi has its own Punjabi cliques.

You need to leverage what you have - on average - many feel the Delhi lawyer is more street smart. The exposure to litigation is useful even in transaction work, it you are in the corporate side. Use that to impress clients.

To be clear street smart doesn't mean stabbing your colleagues in the back. Please note you will see a lot that happens in Bombay T1 sponsored Hunger Games. Good luck Mr. Lateral at T1.

This definitely is a thing. SoBo and generational wealth are treated differently v/s people who stay elsewhere or moved to the city for work. For all the casual vibe Mumbai claims to have, its a hypocritical POS city. Agree that this culture is not there in Delhi. Its their equivalent of pure blood and mud bloods. Funny thing is this is moreso found only in lawyers of Mumbai, and not other professions. Makes sense tho, lawyers are the least sharper and smarter compared to other white collar professions (engineers, CAs, doctors, etc.)., and dim folk tend to engage in such practices to feel better about themselves.

I am from the batch of 2025 at a private law school. I have done really well in some international moots, have national and international publications and have interned at multiple law firms, yet I'm still unemployed. Unfortunately our college placement scene is not that great and despite our Placement Committee trying very hard, we did not get good opportunities through college. I'm extremely depressed and don't know what to do in life. I have been working really hard since the past two years, trying constantly to upgrade my CV and even almost got placed at a tier one (was told at the very end that they won't hire). I genuinely don't know what to do in life. I'm so scared of what's gonna happen. I really want to be placed at any law firm, preferably in Bangalore, but don't know which firms are still hiring. My family's financial situation is not that great. I'm so done with life and I don't have it in me to keep going anymore. I can't keep interning only to hear a no from them at the end.

I interned there this february for one month in the corp branch, work env was not toxic, but at that point there was not much work. But I do think one should try for tempus or a good chamber in Hyderabad for that matter. I mean there was too much free time some days, never a good sign.

Don't blame others if you don't have a vernacular province to be proud off and it is a college literally run by government of Maharashtra it is a government college? Cultural committees will be promoted here obviously? Should've gone to some private unis if you had so much problem or nlus? Example 1: Aarav’s rank makes him eligible for NLSIU in the merit list and SC list. Does NLSIU keep him in the merit list and admit an SC candidate headed to NALSAR? Or, does NLSIU keep him in the SC list and admit a merit list candidate headed to NALSAR?

Example 2: Kiara’s rank makes her eligible for NUJS in the merit list and Bengal domicile list. Does NUJS keep her in the merit list and admit a Bengal domicile candidate headed to NLIU Bhopal? Or, does NUJS keep her in the Bengal domicile list abs admit a merit list candidate headed to NLIU Bhopal?

Is there any policy on this? Does it depend on the VC of the concerned institution?
