I am about to enter my final year of law school and have done almost everything a law student should do, curricular or extracurricular. I am in the Top five of my batch, have won four national moots, and have several publications in journals and book chapters, besides other wins. I have also been invited to judge competitions by other NLUs and non-law universities, all of which are in my CV.

However, the issue I face currently is that I hold the tag of a particular private university (if you wish to identify the same, the only hints I can provide are that it produces more influencers than lawyers and has branches all over India). This, too, was not out of choice but partly out of pressure and partly out of my stupidity. My parents were initially against law as a subject and did not let me appear for CLAT, and by the time I could convince them that this was the field I wanted to opt for, the registrations were over. I did not have it in me to wait for another year and appear for it (which is where the stupidity part essentially was). As for bad luck, I was offered a 100% scholarship by the university, but that too was later taken back by them, citing reasons of me being a "Covid batch" student (which again makes no sense, but stupid rules, I guess). I did try to challenge the same quite a few times, yet nothing fruitful came out of it. Even after I was eligible for the CGPA-based merit scholarship, the institution did not provide the same to our batch, which is where a great deal of resentment arose on my end for the university.

However, the background was written primarily to explain why I bear this dilemma.

I am currently interning at a Tier-2 firm and have been accepted for an internship at a Tier-1 firm next year. However, that is also when my degree will come to an end, and I feel that despite all the efforts I have put in, they might go to waste because I will not land the firm of my dream, regardless of all the efforts I put into building my CV over these four years. I have interned at other places and have LoRs from most of them, including a High Court Judge, yet I do not see how they would help in this particular scenario.

This has been eating away at my mind. I do not know what I can do to get placed in a decent T-1 firm, especially considering our university's terrible placement cell. I do not think interning once under the said T-1 firm would be enough to bag a PPO or even an assessment internship, and the only reason that I bagged this internship this late was that I do not have any powerful connections in this field. The tag of that particular university did not help either.

I would be more than happy to receive suggestions or assistance from anyone who has faced the same or from a senior who would like to help out in any way possible.

Hey there! I’m a third-year student at a Tier 2 National Law University, and I’m keen on doing an in-house internship. I’m wondering if it’s a good idea to do it in the middle of my third year or at the start of my fourth year. I’d love some suggestions for good in-house places and tips on how to apply. I’ve tried reaching out to a few places, but I haven’t received any responses yet. I’ve sent emails to their HR, contact and career@xyz email.

Before this, I had a prior internship at a Tier 2 TMT Firm, a Tier 3 Dispute Resolution (which I did twice), and a basic court internship right at the beginning of law school. I also participated in a prestigious moot, although I didn’t manage to finish in a top position.

This has been called out before. You are not saying anything either original or interesting. Please do not waste peoples' time, unfortunately most people have enough humanity left to still presume others have something interesting to say until and unless it has been proven otherwise. Please do not abuse that presumption.

If you had had even one drop of basic human decency in you, you would never have used your privilege in this way. You'd have either chosen to do something other than law, or done something to help people who were either first generation lawyers or, perhaps even more significantly, those who were the first in their families to attend university.

I am interested in being a professor, and want to teach and research. However, I also want to experience going abroad. Is it possible to go abroad without a masters or PhD from abroad? Is it possible to do a postdoc from abroad and settle there ? Does 10 plus years in academia give the pedigree to move abroad ?

I have a year left of law school, and I'm slowly making peace with the fact that I'm fucked. I'm from a tier 1 NLU, with largely average grades, good competitions and extracurriculars, but I wasted years being adamant that I would do tech policy, and safe to say I don't want to do that anymore.

I had my first internship in Corp at a boutique firm and I want to explore that side further, and I can see myself doing this for a long time. I know day zero is pretty much closed to me because I have one corporate experience, and everything else is in a niche no one really cares about anymore. If i were to pivot to Corp entirely, how do I go about it?

There is a very high chance that the proposal can be on tax law this year, who knows? And it doesn't have to be their core area, cause it is the UNI POOL. You usually get your worthless college alumni (talking about NLS) to judge your rounds, here you have a Goodman law firm which is of very good repute. Do the math yourself :)

Nliu is better than any tier-1 at this stage

This is sheer delusion bro, no one cares who partners up with yall for the university pools, its just intra moots nothing else, LKS will max to max give yall 6 month internship and that you can get through the portal very easily, there are things to be impressed at NLIU but this aint one of them.

No. We help to hold unis (and their students) accountable, and don't allow trash claims and gratuitous PR to get a free pass. There are many things I do not like about those who comment on Legally India, but the fundamental attitude of being what a U.S. schoolteacher once called "bullshit detectors" is extremely praiseworthy. Does this work all the time? Of course not - it would be surprising if it did! But it works enough to be trust worthy.

NLIU trolls trying to pass off random people as doyens of excellence and upvoting their own comments. Dude, nobody considers these people as scholars, except you. Just go and focus on the real achievements that your university produces, the alumni who are doing well. Nothing else.

I’m currently in my final semester at a private law school affiliated with a state university. I have a job interview scheduled with a boutique firm I interned with last year. I’d appreciate any help or pointers you can provide particularly on what I should brush up on, how to prepare, and what kind of questions I can expect. As someone who was in HNLU, all of my batchmates got into MNLU but didn't go. MNLU-M is good only for those kids who want the comfortable city life by the beach.

Raipur has never proved to be disadvantageous for any of the 20+ tier 1 law firm partners, why should it be for anyone? It's well connected, safe, clean and has all the amenities of a capital city.

There is no contact building happening at MNLU-M for sure, at my t-1 office no one even knows what MNLU is but everyone knows what HNLU is

Go back to studying for your end sems, there is no respect for MNLU in the professional market - take it from a veteran

As someone who is in MNLUM, half of my batchmates were in HNLU, RML and NLUO before upgrading to MNLUM. The sheet exposure through the location advantage is real. Its better to come to mumbai any day rather than going to a dump like Raipur. Agreed, there is no Alumni base, but trust me, the advantages of having contact building opportunities in MNLUM are much more than HNLU. Other MNLUs suck as seen from rank openers for their batches but my batch opens at 371 and ends at 475, each student here can attest that other than GNLU none of them would have moved. Lastly, placements for our college through PPOs and on campus are so much better than HNLU its not even funny, not trolling them or anything they try with what limited resources they have but they cannot match MNLUM atleast.

I GAVE CLAT25 and got into nluo only cause i have a crazy reservation.

I am not exaggerating when i say i practised mocks just a week before the exam and that was my whole prep.

I feel like I wont be able to even perform well in the uni if i go without any prep cause theres a reason , this entrance is held .

And more importantly i feel like I am just fooling myself and my dad .

So yeah i have decided to take a drop .

There’s no coaching centre in my state so i am planning to join the nearest one that is in another state and is not that reputated but atleast would help me a bit , its Career Launcher in Guwahati .

The classes are 4 days a week form 4:30 to 6:30 in the evening and yeah i guess mocks every week.

Please give me advice on how to ace the exam , ofcourse i will have my reservation as a safety net but i still wanna ace the exam and prepare like a general candidate and work my ass off , so i actually feel i deserve it .

I am someone who got into a T1 law school this year, but let me be very straight and to the point- the only thing I can do is study, crack exams, be smart on paper. I've absolutely 0 people skills . Atp I'm not even eyeing litigation, but even a corporate job for law seems difficult for a person like me, who's generally, well, not liked, per se. Moreover, I came across this post very recent- [https://www.legallyindia.com/convos/topic/368279-legal-industry-is-a-fuckall-profession-a-rant#comment-368279] , and I am not looking at it in an isolated manner, in the past few days I have seen many such examples. I'm doubting whether only meritocracy will lead me anywhere substantial. So, should I quit? And perhaps look for something like tech or finance?

Please don't advise me to put myself out there and socialize, I've tried that for 12 years of my school life, peers made a display of liking because I was the top performer, only teachers were genuinely kind to me. I don't think I can change things substantially within a few months.

I'm at the verge and an honest insight can really save me right now. Seniors please help this soul. And please be nice, I'm only 17, please.

I completed my callback at SAM Del back in March. Throughout the internship I had informally recieved positive feedback from all my team members. I honestly worked very hard and made sure the work was up to the quality and always on time. I was even told that they might recommend me for a Gen PPO if there's an issue of vacancy. After my internship ended, however, I mailed the HR and recieved a poorly written reply stating that my applications for a PPO was rejected.

I came to know from the HR it was due to my feedback not being positive. I'm not really syre how to process this. Is this a common practice? Is there still any hope left sith this firm? And lastly, how to proceed further from this? Thanks a lot!

This is all false. If you go a vegetable vendor, s/he quote you a different rate depending on whether you speak English or Kannada (I don't even trying Hindi). Most vendors and cab drivers look at non-Kannada speakers as walking moneybags waiting to be milked.

For lawyers, Bangalore is leagues behind Mumbai and Delhi, but also leagues ahead of Hyderabad and Ahmedabad.

Maybe Hyderabad will be up there with Bangalore in 10 years.

No chance for Ahmedabad. There is nothing going for that city that cream of the cream legal professionals pan-India want to settle there. Even diamond merchants prefer living in Mumbai over Surat despite running their factories out of Surat.

Hey there! I just read your comment and what you had to say about your past experiences with MHCET LAW. I gave MHCET LAW for the year 2025-26 and I scored 108 in the first slot which gave me a percentile of 99.6329467 to be precise. Will I be eligible for GLC or ILS this year? I was also a bit confused with respect to the normalisation process as my friend scored 102 in the second slot which was comparatively moderate leading to a percentile of 99.76. I'm in a state of mental chaos as the CET Cell has not provided any official information with respect to the total number of candidates and no tentative date for the counselling process to begin. I have also taken up the JMI entrance test and I strongly believe that I will score much above the cut-off for the BALLB Program. I also took up the CUET exam as well. Any tips for the particular situation I'm in!?

I've said this before and I'm reiterating: please don't mislead kids into joining JGLS. There are middle class kids out there who might join the college hoping to get a decent ROI. Nothing against JGLS, but it is criminal to pretend that they could provide more opportunities and placements than the top 10 NLUs. They have great faculty but only place around 70 or so people with a batch size of 600.

The question is same as the title. I have been working as a paralegal/trainee for over 6-7 months, and have been planning to switch to another place for a while - since I feel like they're stringing me along. Had to accept the offer since after graduation (in 2024), offers were pretty bleak.

I have been emailing and sending applications for a while, but as always that's not really resulting in a anything. Is there any other way I can apply to other places? I've tried reaching out to people on LinkedIn as well but hasn't resulted into a lot.
