Hi, I'm two years into practice and have started to get some small independent work. I wanted advice on charges/fee. Not looking to earn my subsistence through this since I am still working elsewhere; but I do want to charge something - consider it a token. So, what should be a minimum fee for legal notice drafting for basic issues, and other items of work like complaint/WS drafting. The matters aren't too complex and clients not so rich. So advise accordingly.

Among other things, the only good university outside of India (in the English-speaking world) that I know of which has a two-year LLM is McGill in Canada, and it's very much the exception. An institution which employs lawyers and never provide equity, is antithetical to the idea of entrepreneurship in lawyers. Unless your idea of entrepreneurship is building someone else’s business.

NDA is a brand - where? In whose mind and in which universe? If there was a legal limit on being delusional, you would be guilty of violating it.

Usual sharmili ladyship filed PIL in BHC alleging that colleges like GLC, Sid, KC, Bhimrao colleges are not enforcing 75% attendance policy. In earlier roster, J Upadhyay had issued notice to BCI & MU. But then recent roster of CJ Aradhe asked her to bring data to support her claim. Ladyship said colleges are not responding to her RTI, so she cannot bring data. Instead, court was prayed to issue notice & get the data (salute for her gumptions). BHC told to her to keep fighting her RTI appeals & threw the petition in bin.

I am second year law student who saw my peers calling upto law firms to ask for internship and I did that today. As soon as the my preferred law firm picked up the phone he started yelling at me for asking for internship. I just said i just needed to inquire about internship and that person on call made me feel so stupid like why are you calling us like are you serious and all in a very frustrating tone. I understand you might have workload but i am also a law student figuring out this career. I felt disheartened and i cried for almost half an hour for feeling stupid for calling. Yeah that’s what happened

What is going on with CAM? I have heard so many deserving people being turned down PPOs, even after they have gotten good feedbacks on their work and presentation? It happened to me as well. Devastated. What do I do now? Shouldn't have kept all my eggs in one basket. I also supposedly fit in their criteria for the "batch rank" and "Tier 1 NLU".

TMT is a sector, not an area of law. The core is - and will always be - Gen Corp, even and specially in TMT teams. Stop trying to get into a saturated and lesser paying team - there's a recession coming. Broaden your options, and pick whatever you get - unless you're sure that you can get another job with a phone call.

That programme has not only produced individuals who have done astonishing things, the sheer number of individuals of such kind it has produced is equally astonishing. And FYI, the LLB which you are so dismissive of has produced a Rhodes Scholar where the five year BALLB hadn't done for several years!

By every possible metric:

1. As a student: Best graduating student at NLSIU. Definitely one of the best students at Oxford, too, because only people who have achieved distinction in BCL are permitted to go to the DPhil. Please provide verifiable proof of your NLSIU and Oxford degrees, then dare to ask such questions. Otherwise, sit this one out.

2. Qualifications: NLSIU + two degrees at Oxford. Do you have either of these or anything even close?

3. Accomplishments: Rhodes Scholar. One of the biggest achievements in life that one can have. What do you have that is even close?

4. Publications: Books published by both Oxford and Cambridge University Press. Considering the quality of legal research in India, that is quite heavy for an Indian legal academic. Show me your publication list.

5. Experience: Has taught at two of the best law universities in India (NLSIU and NUJS), while also having taught at Oxford and Columbia. What have you done in life other than being a grifter?

6. As a university administrator: Doesn't tolerate nonsense, doesn't suffer fools gladly either (good thing, too, far too many fools in Indian higher education). Ensuring NLSIU operates like the best unis in the world, and that one day, it will be a hub for genuine research and intellectual work in law, like the actual Harvard, instead of just shooting his mouth off about it.

7. As a mentor: Other than his own writings, Sudhir has been publicly thanked by scholars in their own names whom he has advised on their academic projects. Tarunabh Khaitan (yes, the same T Khaitan, now of LSE) wrote an acknowledgement to him in a book chapter a few years ago. Provide verifiable proof of all the scholars who have acknowledged you in their writings.

One of my teachers at law school was an absolute gem! Very knowledgeable in his subjects, kept emphasizing the need for a solution-oriented approach while practising law, guided me about extra readings based on my interest. Even more importantly, he was always there whenever I was feeling down and gave a patient and kind hearing to all my insecurities, doubts and worries. Saved law school for me. I wish more teachers would have been like him. We need more empaths who are also competent in their jobs.

Are you 18 brother he clearly mentioned that he graduated from a normal university the package he gonna get would be like 4 lakh also ya corporate have good pay tier 1 firm but let me tell you work hours 10 to 12 I am not kidding corporate law have most fucked up working hours I have personally seen it my sis is in khaitaan and she tells me since I am also a law student she tells me that no body she has seen in corporate law is happy with their life

Depends on the people you end up working with this rule applies across every organisation. The partners at SRL are quite uninvolved though they have their own unique strengths like most do. ▮▮▮ and ▮▮▮ are difficult to work with. Egoistic, competitive and go out of their way to make your life miserable stay clear from them. If you’re lucky you can work with the SAs who are kind hearted and good at their work, seem uninterested in politics. The pay is as good as they say but you have to prove your mettle before they offer you high salaries that can take a long time.

Hi - looking for some input / insight into exploring a career in-house from a T1. By way of background, I am currently at SA2 level in a T1 at Mumbai. Am thinking of switching roles and exploring opportunities in in-house roles. Want advise on the following:

1. Challenges / opportunities at an in-house role?

2. Any significant disadvantage coming from a purely disputes role while applying for an in-house role?

3. Variation in payscale, percentage wise approximately.

4. Any leads for in-house roles for a disputes profile?

The recent decision of the Delhi High Court finding that there were errors in four questions and answers in the CLAT 2025 and directing the CLAT Consortium to revise and publish the result within four weeks has come as a great blow to the integrity, reliability and efficiency of the admission process in the National Law Universities. This is first time in the history of CLAT that such a blatant error has occurred. The office bearers of the CLAT responsible for this blunder, including the Chairman and the Convener shall be sent to Jail for playing with the career of Lakhs of students like us. All the more surprising is that those shameless people still continue to hold the positions.
