I have the same opinion. If you do your job well (and it is difficult to, especially if you don't like it to begin with and eye some other mundane job), you do impact lives of many students positively. Many of my professors taught me only for one semester, but have had a tremendous impact on my life, my understanding of law & the world, and how I perceive things in general.

With the greatest possible respect, my experience of law school is living proof of the incorrectness of this statement. Some of the greatest faculty I have ever met, who have absolutely revolutionised my thinking and definitely made my life better, have only taught me one course.

I am willing to accept that this may not reflect the experiences of all students or all faculty, but I still think that it is not correct. Some students may not acknowledge the faculty impact, some may not even realise it until later... you can never really tell (IMO at least). Therefore, please continue to do what you do. Thanks.

This is so stupid. How is not sending a memorial mail or sending it late related to saving face? Admin had already sent countless mails regarding the incident? The VC called the Director of AIIMS at 8 AM to ensure everyone gets treatment properly. The college has taken care of travel and acco of parents coming (yes, complete financial cost covered)

The teachers have been giving support each and everyone. This has been the most support they can possibly give and the entire admin has gone out of its way to help the injured students and others. Stop spewing hate unnecessarily!

I would be the first to point fingers at the University, but this is the first and only time I have nothing but sympathy for them.

For the longest time I've seen a lot of their management and policies to be downright apathetic and cold. But this is the first time I've seen them also struggle to cope with this. Seeing professors and lecturers break down in front of you makes you realise, that this is probably their first time dealing with this as well

This is not an easy situation for anyone at all, and I would pray that no one would ever find themselves in this situation.

But what a lot of these calls for actions against the university fail to forget is that they are also dealing with a massive loss on their own, a lot of professors are also grieving and are heartbroken. Navigating through something like this is truly heart wrenching.

I wouldn't say the way they handled this is perfect, but to deny them any empathy at this moment is cruel. They are also navigating unknown paths while simultaneously dealing with tremendous grief. All we can possibly ask for is a little bit of kindness during these trying times.

The thing is, Indians are not sure of who they are. Their constitution considers them citizens but they see themselves as communities. This causes them to have both an ideal (rooted in constitution) and a counter-ideal (rooted in experience). The ideal allows them to aspire to the rule of law but the counter-ideal compels them to settle for differentiation and stratification in how they treat each other and how the state treats them as communities and not individuals. Take any controversy and you will observe the same dichotomy. From preventive detention to reservation to statutes assuming guilt over innocence to parliamentary delimitation, Indians are trapped in a perpetual historical and social struggle to define/recognise who they are and who they can be. Reservation as a policy is popular in India not necessarily because it makes a better argument (or leads to better results than other alternatives, for that matter) than those who disagree with it but because, as an example of the counter-ideal, it is based in and sustained by experiences of scarcity, inequality, and lack of mutual social trust. The fear of having to trust others (except one’s own community), as embodied in the counter-ideal, has always triumphed — in colonial and post-colonial India — over the sincere but rudderless promise of the ideal that seeks but is unable to treat everyone as an equal. This is our tragedy and we have been failing ever since to find our way out of it. It is a tragedy that disintegrates our ability to be universal, to speak for each other, to allow them to speak for us. Instead, we remain particular, a world of mutual exclusivity, a world where you and I cannot belong together.

Sadly true. We are constantly diminishing the quality of academic research by lowering standards just so that any UPSC-also-ran thinks of Ph.D. as a Plan B. Contemptible state of affairs when you read their so-called research proposals. One truly fears how badly these individuals will abuse AI to spruce up their incoherent research questions.

Have the opportunity to intern under either Sr. Adv. Geeta luthra or abhinav sekhri. Which one should I go for? For those who have interned/worked with either of them, what is the work culture, type of work, etc. like? I'm looking for a more high court and supreme court focused internship.

Law school students in India can celebrate and become ecstatic when someone gets the "Roads" Scholarship, knowing very well that this award is in the honour of someone who has furthered British colonial interests with serious and consistent human rights violations. Even the VC of NLS is in this group - isn't it? Celebrating this should be a matter of national shame. After all, we don't celebrate the Victoria Cross winners in India.

Why can't the same law schools set and use their criteria for faculty promotions? Why should they care about alumni and their supposed embarrassment?

Been there done that. I will tell you what actually happened, I interned with a firm that had a strong NLU bias. I interned with them, was offered a callback and a promise for an assesment for a PPO. During my callback the SA was like sorry we hire A0s only from NLUs, you can send in over CV if we have an opening or requirement we'll let you know.
My Senior worked with JSA, interned with them thrice and guess what they didn't hire him.
So for me hardwork and connections/contacts are equally important.

This is a reality check for law firm associates who were recklessly splurging on stonks. There used to be lots of people boasting on LI how their net worth is up and how they are buying Rolex and Omega. Well, what now?? Big lesson here about the dangers of greed.

1. Best situation to be in for an IP lawyer is an in-house practice. So Gen Corp + IP is the best position you could be at.
2. TM registrations and filings are dry. Litigation is where there is moolah. But exclusive IP litigation is hard to make a name in with stalwarts already in place. So a general legal practice with IP cases is the way forward.

The above is for non-science students and those aiming for a career involving IP excluding patents.

Pros:
1. The standard of living is low to moderate, and it is very good to start a career with peanuts salary.

2. Lots of opportunities in the field of Law.

3. Good food (if you know how to discover)

4. It is not as fast-paced as Bombay, which negates the feeling of robotic and mechanical life to some extent.
5. Best metro services (compared to others in India) - good connectivity
Cons:
1. Unsafe at night (Both for men and women). At night, Delhi turns into some kind of nightmarish purge session realm.

2. Entitled and ignorant crowd - They have the potential to make things difficult on a daily basis.

3. Peak pollution - long-term health problems
4. Extreme weather - be it summer or winter. Rain cripples the whole Delhi and the NCR.
5. Working pals in Bombay and Delhi are so poles apart. The Delhi folks can be, at times, entitled and inconsiderate. Bombay folks are majorly humble and quite helpful.

Yes, without naming the firm (south indian named tax firm which last year increased the payscale throughout the firm by 5 lakhs). A recruiter told me that there are mass resignations happening from this firm. Everyone including partners, associates and even the hr is moving out of this firm.
